Comparing crap to crap, what is the point? Compare to the real PCB, like JT, otherwise, completely useless.

MiSTer has spoilt software emulation for me, going back to software latency is just so obvious now, it's not just video latency either, it's the audio, the input response, the CRT, the OG gamepads, it's just on another level; there is also the perfect compatibility, proper timings, higher audio quality and all that good stuff.
@PixelCherryNinja7 ай бұрын
Most definitely. I still dabble in software emulation too.

@@gerboog I've always been more about the gameplay more than anything, and zero perceived latency and 0.4ms MPRT really make the gameplay so much more fun, to be honest I would not bother with retro games if I didn't own real hardware or a MiSTer, it's the collective sum of all the low latency segments of FPGA and CRT gaming that feels and looks so special, the OG zero latency gamepads with perfect input response, the 0ms CRT input response and zero ms video latency as well as zero ms motion response times and frame-times, there is no API lag or OS overhead lag, or OS jittering or stutter and no compatibility issues, and best of all for me, as audio is by far the most important factor for me, FPGA audio is just spot on, almost 1:1 parity in fact, and it sounds so much better than soft emulation audio, no timing issues or jitter, or going out of phase, you can actually listen to FPGA audio on a decent Hi-Fi system like OG hardware, MiSTer is just absolute perfection for pre X86 systems/games.

@@andrecosta9253 There is also the fact that so many games that have never been successfully emulated well in soft emus, complicated consoles like Saturn & N64, that huge chunks of their libraries that never have been playable on traditional emulator soft cores, DK64 with lots of emulators and plugins but no matter what combination you try, there are still games like it along with many others that are very problematic. Factor 5 games are very hard to emulate, but Indiana Jones is probably the one with the biggest problems (i can't even make this game boot), and it's even worse for the Saturn, the games that can be emulated in software, need a very powerful PC, a 4.5GHz+ multicore X64 CPU, and even then there will be high levels of latency and poor audio performance including timings out of sync, popping and crackling. This also makes perfect emulation on a small handheld possible, something not possible before due to not being able to fit a desktop class PC inside a handheld console, reference grade audio & video up to 5th gen in the palm of your hand is made possible by FPGA.

Next time you do a game like TMNT, do you think you can have all players active? The hardware those games run on is not truly pushed until you see the swarm of enemies flooding the screen during a 4 player game session.

Huh, did anyone notice at 5:07 that the "Let's Fight" screen displayed differently? Never played this on an actual arcade so does anyone know which one is being emulated correctly? Or could either be correct depending how you die or cabinet settings or something?

Lol sounds like the audiophile world. I know lag is bad but hey it’s all about gameplay and fun. If you need to do a side by side comparison and look closely to find a difference then you can’t go wrong with either solutions.
@richarddukard89897 ай бұрын
I like your videos. But you didn’t actually compare the similarities or differences between the visuals, sound, input lag, etc. You only talked about how difficult it is to play 2 games at the same time. If I’m not mistaken, the mister visuals actually looked sharper? Also, during the tmnt intro, one of them went waayy off sync.
@PixelCherryNinja7 ай бұрын
I'm just messing around with these for now. Differences in visuals are usually visible to the viewer, I don't comment on those as due to being colour-blind it makes it a little difficult.

@@PixelCherryNinja I fully agree with you and I think nobody has to complain on one or the other option. We do have choices. Mister, Mame, RecallBox etc etc. On my side I have a Mister and I'm more than happy with it, not only for Arcade games but also for computers and consoles. This does not mean that I do not use Mame and other emulators which are also amazing. It depends on my mood, on the time I have at the moment. For sure I'll never say that emulators or 'simulators' are crap. If I do not like, I simply do not use it.
