The cast in the first one was absolutely amazing, and the story flowed so well. It's based on the musical. The second was well done with the past, present, and future, but the original is still the best, in my opinion.

Yes, it's him, but they all loved Donna so much that they decided to share the role when they were on the island. I'd guess that Harry and Bill had to return to their lives at some point, maybe even Sam in New York, too, but then he moved after marrying Donna. I was just so sad that the second film was about Donna being gone.
