Thanks for another wonderful visit. Glad you've enjoyed your venture into eastern U.S! Having lived my 7 decades in the northeast, I've thoroughly loved the verdant beauty of the eastern forests, songs of spring peepers, tree frogs, and songbirds, particularly the haunting melodies of the wood thrush and cousin the hermit thrush. As we approach Pennsylvania's lush June, mountain laurel bloom, I know there will always be much to admire in our woods, (& "respect", as in the glossy three leaved vine climbing the bank at 13:09). Detracting from these treasures has been the shocking climb in tick populations & resulting lyme disease in PA. Adding other factors like unrelenting rainfall with occasional flash flooding since 2018 & increased mosquito presence risking West Nile virus, makes enjoying our outdoors a challenge these days. Nowhere is perfect, but It will be very sad if these conditions aren't self-correcting. Please don't let this whine put you off.

Nice butterfly footage! I have never observed so many different types of swallowtailss together in one place: a pair of zebra swallowtails, a pair of tiger swallowtails, one spicebush swallowtail, and one pipevine swallowtail. Nice job. Also, your Aliner is real neat, but since my wife's idea of camping is at the Hilton, all I can do is enjoy your wonderful videos. Thank you.

Loved hearing the birds singing...I live in Kentucky and we certainly do have a beautiful state with so many scenic areas. I've never seen butterflies act that wzy, very interesting.

Great video Slim! I’ve been on small ferry’s, Been in caves, but never have I seen a horde of butterflies attack a poor little bumblebee. You have a knack for finding and videoing things in nature that I would never be able to see. Thanks

The Best!!!! When we were there it poured the rain while we were in the caves and came back to the camp and our old army tent was flooded along with everything in it! And they only had 2 dryers in the wash room, so we hauled the wet stuff all the way home. Great vid Slim.

We loved visiting Mammoth Cave NP a few years ago. Sounds like we need to head back for some camping. "Ferry awesome". HAHA! Oh no!! Not going! Nice that Tom found you! Looks like a nice site! Thanks for taking us on the tour. It's a drier cave than we have here in Missouri. We don't get those gypsum flowers. Nice effects. HA! Nice that you did find some water. It's very green there! WHOA! Nice video, after spending nearly 6 months in the southwest we were really happy to see the hard wood trees too. We stopped at Mammoth Cave on our way home to the northeast. BTW they do except the senior pass for half off camping fees. Just incase any of your viewers are wondering.

I live less that 4 hours south of Mammoth cave. I have been taking my kids there at least once a year for the past 28 years. Last summer, we passed the tradition down to my grandchildren! Mammoth Cave is fantastic and we will be back this summer as well. Hope you enjoyed it!

I live about 2 hours from Mammoth Caves, I always went with my boys on the school trips. I was the one who stayed behind with the students who ended up being scared. I don't do enclosed spaces, so the teachers were always happy for me to come along. I love that area of Kentucky.

@@bsthomas425 There are not too many enclosed spaces. The cave rooms are huge. Don't know if you have even gone in, but you could start off with the self guided tour that just goes in the main entrance. Those spaces are huge and you can get most of the history of the cave from there. If you have already done that, I apologize for telling you something you already know. Just a thought.

@@jameshodgins1937 No problems, If I cant see outside I get very nervous, I did try to go on the guided tour as a teenager, didn't make it to far and they end guide helped me get back out. I still love just going and wandering around the park. It is so beautiful there.

Growing up in and around eastern forests, I get that same feeling when I go out west into the mountain forests. That said, I think the prairies are my favorite. Nothing like being able to see from horizon to horizon, especially at night. Also, if you like caves, and planning to make your way through northern Arkansas, you absolutely must stop at Blanchard Spring Cavern. Take the Dripstone Trail tour. It is beyond description.

Another beautiful place. The cave was gorgeous but I would rather watch the video, the river area is fantastic and loved the butterflies. On to the next adventure. And I can't believe that the pass did not work in that area.

Delightful video! Thanks for saving this old lady from having to make that long hike through the cave! I was taken there as an infant but of course I don’t have any memory of it. Now I know what I missed! 🙂. The butterfly vs bumble bee fight was bizarre! Nice capture of it!

Went there with my folks 55 years ago!! It was awe inspiring but what I remember most was my father saying jokingly to my 11 year old brother to, "not speak," because his high voice might dis join the stalactites attached to the ceiling!! Several people in our group laughed!! I remember dad explaining the difference between the two words!! Thanks for the memories, maybe one day I'll get back!!

Kudos to Tom. I have done the same to help visitors that needed a guide "out" to someplace. It is just the right thing to do. We live near Weiss Lake and Little River Canyon, and our back roads get curvy plus can mislead a traveler from time to time. See, you are known to a great number of people about this land.

saw the Mammoth Caves when i was 5 (50+ years ago). i've never forgotten that trip, but only remember little snippets (funny how that works). what i remembered about Mammoth Caves was the drip features, and a boat ride on the Green River. and a postcard packet. seeing your film, makes me want to visit again and camp there for a week just to hear those birds, and see those trees.

I’ll bet the follow up ranger was happy to grab up your camera to help herd you along on the tour………. For me, a hardwood forest in bloom, seen from a vista, can be more spectacular can be more spectacular than the fall colors.

You should have taken the 'wild tour'. Lots of crawling and squeezing. On my second trip I took a chromatic harmonica and played Amazing Grace in a room called The Chapel, with great acoustics. That brought the tour to a halt. A great memory...

It’s ferry awesome. 😂 Wow, what a great guy Tom is. I love the forests of the eastern states but the humidity from all those trees is horrible, especially in July and August. At 4:53 you can hear a bird that sounds like it’s laughing. That’s a Pileated woodpecker, the largest in North America. It also is the bird that the cartoonist created Woody the woodpecker from. Another great video, Slim.... We've been to Mammoth Caves - great spot for a family vacation!! I'll add to your advice about "Ducking" in the low spots... I found it's wise to wear a hat, especially for those of us with thinning or no hair - a scuffed up hat is far better than a bleeding head!

Loved the bumblebee and butterfly action. Wondering what all the commotion was about...? Perhaps the bumblebee was using his noisy generator all night and the butterflies just had enough. Slim - video quality was fine and enjoyed the video, thanks for making it. We went through Mammoth in about 1982 and had a blast. A tip, try the cave in Hannibal, Mo, you know, where Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn made their mark... There they turn the lights out for about 5 minutes, you get to see what pitch black is really like, plays with the mind... waiting for the next video :)
