Man Designs an Off-Road "Wheelchair" Made out of 2 Mountain Bikes

Zack Nelson, from the youtube channel Jerryrig Everything, did a series of 4 videos showing the process, of making a Custom off road e-bike wheel chair, for his paralysed friend Cambry.
But all 4 videos combined ran for 35 minutes and were spread over 2 different youtube channels, so I approached Zack and asked him, could I do a story on this E-Bike wheel chair, and cut it down to a more bite sized video, and Zack approved.
Building this fully electric wheelchair was surprisingly simple. A few bars of metal tied into the already naturally existing supports and holes on the bike makes for great seat supports.
This Off Road wheel chair has a top speed of 20mph and a range of about 20 miles, which is about 32 Klms Per hour speed and 35 Klm range.
The bikes Zack used cost about $1400 each, so after factoring in the $50 dollars worth of metal and random odds and ends, the whole thing cost about $3000 dollars to build. Which is less than half the price and twice the performance of other off road wheelchairs on the market right now.
Overall I'm pretty impressed with the bike. We learned some of the limits. I think airing down the tires, and getting a bit more tread on the rubber would be beneficial to going off road. As soon as the bike loses momentum, it doesn’t have enough torque to start going uphill again. But on simple slopes, or flat surfaces, this off road wheel chair is a beast.

Love it. I have some big 24v 600w wheelchair motors going to try this build with manual whoopty bikes. Ten mph on a 4wd chair isn’t fast enough to go around town. Y’all tires should fix the speed issue

well yes & no, in one of his videos he does state how there are off road wheelchairs, but at twice the price of this design, so about $6000

@@WonderWorldYTC his design requires the driver to be carried in and out, the seat is not very comfortable i bet and it has no belts for security so that's probably why it costs half the price.

@@elgato9o true on all points, but based on the size of these off road wheelchairs you probably would need help getting to and from a location anyway, unless you simply ride it to & from your home, in which case you just need help getting in, but I bet she could have climbed over the bike frame to get it, not easily, but doable.

I'm finding it difficult to figure out how to add extra wheels to my electric bike! I've added a storage-type section at the back of my seat and want to add two extra wheels on the sides of my back wheels for extra support. They're the same size wheels (14") and stabiliser extensions aren't the right shape/don't fit. Where can I get a 5-7" screwable extension to add extra wheels? There are two screw holes at the top of the axles on both sides of the wheel frame.

I think it's because the handle used on each bike has the rear brake lever on it, so both right side handles need to point backwards. In a later video, he adds twin cable brake levers for 4-wheel braking.
