Thank you for your work! A little over a year ago, I began to feel convicted to wear a headcovering whenever I leave the house, not just at church or while praying. This is how women dressed, really until the 50s/60s, women were still wearing hats and scarves a lot of the time. And I love how it makes me feel, reminds me that I am a Christian woman. I feel stronger, more confident, safer and dare I say more beautiful with my head covered. So thankful for the traditions the Church has handed to us!

The Holy Orthodox Church gives us so many blessings! It is such a blessing to be covered in church, in prayer, in life! Covered by the Holy Trinity, covered by the Spiritual Father, covered by the husband, covered by the priest, covered by the veil and by so many more blessings! In all of these things, our Church honors and protects women. A friend told me a few months ago that as soon as she puts on her headcovering, she is shielded from The world and from thoughts. I agree. I don't wear mine outside of home and church because I think it brings more attention, but if that weren't the case, I would wear it in public also.

Regarding long hair on men and what’s done in Russia, I’m reminded of what I heard Father Hopko say in a talk, that long hair was a sign of nobility. Also, that monasticism is a tonsure.

I read the scripture to the letter. What happened? A lot of negativity. I got called a legalist and accused of me of being an anti-christian religion.Some thought I had cancer. I got asked, "What religion are you?' I explained and it just got me more criticism. My family hated it. People would ask me, "Why are you making yourself look ugly and hiding yourself? If I tried to make the scarf look better, I got judged by people who don't wear head covers that it wasn't modest looking. I went into many churches and came out crying. The interrogations were endless. No matter how I did a basic scarf someone judged me as anti-christian. I got something from Peru that was very plain, tan, and looked like no religion. I went into a Greek Orthodox Church and they did a ritual I was unfamiliar with at the time. All people went up front and I was left by myself in the pew with the entire congregation staring at me like I was anti-christian. My mom begged me to stop wearing scarves covers, because she saw all the snearing at me. I got asked, "What country I was from often?" I wasn't going to parade myself on a channel of the look. I dressed modest as well and I got interrogated by strangers about that as well. I tried to do all sorts of biblical things and it led to divorce. It's been an awful one taking everything I owned practically. I beg God to deliver me from this nightmare. I went to wearing hats and I couldn't wear it in court. Sometimes, I still wear the hats and the questions from strangers continue. Is that a costume? Do you normally dress like that? Why do you hide your hair? Do you have a skin condition? The only group that liked my scarves and hats were Jewish. They recognized I was doing something biblical, but didn't understand why. Many thought I was a confused Catholic. They were the most non-judgemental along with Buddhist. I was just trying to do what the scripture said. What I learned is people are more judgemental on females. And, the roots of Christian doctrine is not well known. I did have one ask if I was a nun. Of course, I did have to do something different as a divorced woman. Still, I get asked things like-"What era are you acting out? Do you work in a museum? Why do you dress like that? etc. No matter what I do, the judgements are extreme and strangers feel the need to interrogate. Did I feel holy wearing a head covering? No. It helped reduce sound. I didn't have a bad hair day. I didn't have to worry about the weather or exposure to people with lice. BTW: I am not a Roman Catholic. I am a person of simple faith. That's all.

This is a lot worse than what I've been through but very similar. People ask if I'm muslim, if I'm going to blow up, if I wear bombs under my dress etc. I've been complained to that I look like I'm wearing too much for the summer and it looks suffocating and hot and I've been met with a lot of disbelief over not wearing pants, how crazy is that! Shock and disbelief that a woman would dress... like a woman? It's particularly other women who react negatively too for some reason. So much for "girl power" and women making their own choices haha It's really difficult because we do want to fall in line and please other people, actively reminding ourselves that we're supposed to please God first is necessary. I hope our experiences only strengthen our resolve 🙏

I attempted full time head covering for a while, but found it very challenging. Not even because i feared the opinion of the average person, but more so of other Orthodox Christians. Father Peter Heers talked about how women can full time head cover if they wish, but its not expected anymore because the culture has changed so much, and it carries a different meaning now. What are your opinions about women full time head covering nowadays?

I am enjoying these! Thanks for your time and work. If I were to critique one point, that i tend to observe with the EO church and to be frank, one main contributing factor that keeps me from becoming an EO. He said that it is a shame for a man to have long hair, yet admits the EO of Russia grow long hair against the teaching of Scripture to supposedly add some appearance of superfluous piety. How foreign is this idea from the teachings of our Master and Savior? Jesus did not teach any thing of this sort and neither did the Apostles. He was washing feet, touching leopards and leading by example. Not wearing garments of splendor like the pharisees or setting Himself up to be seen any different than His brothern. It is a sin to judge by appearance. IMO (knowing I am a no body) it is sad to see these well meaning Bishops (Russian EO) were not corrected for departing the way on this. If this had been, then those bringing a charge that the head covering were just cultural or outdated practices of Pauls time would have no case against the EO for departing to the way of error. Yet, they do. It is a log in the eye that should be removed.

There is only leadership by example. Do men keep their hair short, as St Paul and St Augustine instruct? Daniel Sysoev is one man in the Church, but we take all of Tradition as our guidance. I'll say, it seems like hypocrisy for men to demand subjection from women, while offering an example of... what? Where are the haircuts? -- "Scripture for thee, but not for me."

@@PomazeBog1389 Reposting because my first response to you was deleted. I warn you against such unwise judgements. Take a moment and watch Archimandrite Philip's latest video, "Straight to Hell!" How can you presume to judge the staff at Ancient Faith Ministries, the bare-headed Greek Yia-yias the fought the Turks, and female saints such as Saint Mary of Egypt? Their example speaks as loudly as Fr Daniel's words. You have no authority as you show no good example, and you have no argument. I am an academic and a woman. You will know that not all women marry, and women are able to pray all the time, regardless of their clothing.
@haydeen6535Ай бұрын
@@ellemnop123None of what you have said is contary to Fr. Daniels words. Fr. Daniel is speaking of women who are married, not of Nuns. Those are the two paths. For women are are married, they are subject to their husband just as workers are subject to their supervisors, as Fr. Daniel said. What is your issue with what he has said and what Church Tradition do you believe goes against this? You seem to only be led by the modern delusions of feminism, which contradict The Gospel.
@haydeen6535Ай бұрын
What is the point of this comment anyways? Long hair is for those with monastic vows, and the clergy. Married men in the laity are absolutely encouraged by The Church to keep short hair. Are you attempting to say that men wre applying these verses in hypocrisy while not following what other verses say? Well first off, you are not the judge of the interpretation of these verses, and you are not the judge of those men who are sinners and do not follow Holy Scripture perfectly. But as a rule we can say absolutely that married women ARE subject to their husbands. And there can be no debate about that, you can offer no debate about that, all you can do is judge the failings of men.

at 10:53 it sounds like you want christian women to wear a hijab. your references are from the pre-modern era and use emotions and comparisons to make your point. I agree with hair coverings but not for your reasons. submission is earned; not forcefully taken by a man.
@herkloadАй бұрын
Since when does scripture and the Church's tradition have an expiration date? It wasn't until the last century when Christian women, including heterodox, stopped wearing veils in Church due to feminism and the sexual revolution. God commands married women to submit to their husbands, if this is not what women wish to do then they should remain single. By your logic, as a man I'm going behave effeminately and have zero masculine skills or ability to protect and provide, because my masculinity is earned and not entitled to women... See how crazy I sound?
