Jonathan Kent's death would've made more sense if he had died of natural causes like a heart attack. Giving Superman more weight as even though he's the most powerful being in the universe, he can't still save everyone but when he has the ability to save he will. In this way him snapping Zod's neck would've made more sense and more impactful.
@heatherreagan80783 жыл бұрын
I agree. When I saw John Kent just standing there, all I could think was 'Run, you moron.' I couldn't figure out how he thought Clark, a 16-year-old in good shape, would be discovered by running faster than a guy in his 50s.
@hunterolaughlin3 жыл бұрын
The only downside to Jonathan Kent dying from a heart attack is now every incarnation of Superman uses that plot thread. I do understand that Jonathan Kent dying from a natural causes is an effective and provocative way to teach Clark his powers can’t solve everything like something natural, but does it always have to be a frigging heart attack? Why not another natural cause like a stroke or kidney failure or cancer. There are other natural causes Jonathan Kent can die from that Clark wouldn’t be able to prevent. I just don’t get why most writers always have to pick heart attack.
@melissalayson72753 жыл бұрын
Even the series Smallville had John Kent die of heart attack and it way more heartbreaking than Man of Steel because we actually saw the love and bond that Clark and his adopted father had for each other in 5 seasons. Making so heartbreaking when he finally died from a from heart attack protecting Clark's secret from Lionel Luthor.

oh boy... well personally I think it is in tight competition with Attack of the Clones for worse Star Wars movie to exist due to some incredibly stupid writing (like how the fuck did you manage to screw up Luke fucking skywalkers character? HOW!), very obvious political pandering (like that whole pointless venture to the casino planet for starters), displaying little regard for established lore ( the hyperspace ram scene is the obvious one), and screwed up everything JJ Abrams tried to set up in TFA. now as for Rian Johnson I do not think he should direct another star wars movie ever again and Kathleen Kennedy really needs to stop trying to shove politics to everything, look i know the hate got old quick but both of them really did do some series damage to the star wars franchise and a lot of fans are not happy about it (myself included)

I think the reason this version of superman got so much flack is because we've only known him in a particular way for so long. For so many people, seeing a hero they looked up to for their childhood in a different way and not as the optimistic superhero from the comics, it turns them away.
@ginichilders96192 жыл бұрын
Thing is, Superman in the comics has had plenty of moments of self doubt, despair and rage in the comics. Superman killing Zod makes sense to me too, here it's a young version of the character, he's dealing with a vilain from his planet with god-like powers, and once Zod's plan failed, he has no purpose left except vengeance by killing all humans and superman (he is in a kind of suicide mode), so when he feels he is about to lose, he pushes Superman to kill him by threatening humans, leaving him no other choice to save them in a short time

Well, it’s not like the Superman character originated as a subversive means by which marginalized jewish comic book creators in the 1930s were able to metaphorically chronicle the profound conflict experienced during that era by many American Jews, as they attempted to balance the preservation of their unique cultural identity with the relentless pressure to assimilate into mainstream American culture? Nor is it like they accomplished this by, say, building the Superman origin story and plot line around an incredibly thinly-veiled adaptation of one of the foundational stories in Hebrew scripture, the story of Moses...beginning with the tragic circumstances of his birth and his parents’ noble sacrifice, to the eventual revelation of his true heritage, to his final, triumphant redemption and reluctant acceptance of his destiny as heroic savior archetype? Uhh...I mean, I liked that part, too! It seemed somehow, umm...appropriate?

Why would Zod tell Superman that he is going to kill everyone he has ever known and destroy the planet that he grew up on? Shouldn't he at least check with him to see if he would be open to the idea over dinner or something? Why does he even need to transform the planet? Why not save that terraforming, or kryptoforming I guess, for another planet so he can expand his empire? Why would he even use it in the first place, did it not occur to him that the process would fail just like it did to those other outposts? Zod seems to just assume things will work out in his favor even though it never does, even fulfilling his promise to Superman's mother that he will find her son doesn't work out for him.

Let's begin with: WHY WOULD ZOD care for us, poor, ridiculously weak and backward race? Kryptonians were an EMPIRE in SPACE when humans were fighting it out with Neandertals...to Zod, humans were just MORTAR on the building of a New Krypton. Second: he was TRAINED for ONE thing ONLY: SEE THAT KRYPTON AND ITS INTERESTS WERE PROTECTED. AT ALL AND ANY COSTS. He, like any SINGLE MINDED individual with only military training, would do, went STRAIGHT for a military solution. Conquer the weak species, kill all that oppose. Use all of its assets to reach his goal: remake Krypton. He didn't care at all about humans. Third: MARS IS SMALLER THAN EARTH. Its atmosphere, soil and everything on it is QUITE different from Earth too. Earth HAD, also, something Mars didn't: a biosphere, all the right ingredients and Kal El there to torment with destroying...why would a space conqueror from a ridiculously powerful race ever care about ANTS (us, by the way) when he could do everything he wanted on a nicer, more easily accessible planet? Fourth: he wanted KRYPTON back, NOT THE POWERS. HE DIDNT wanted to spend YEARS (so you know, he got used to them, well, not really, because of his MILITAR TRAINING. Not ALL Kryptonians he'd raise would be as inclined to it like he and his group were. He would need the 'civilians' at some point...and do you think US - humans - would be so nice to let superpowered beings live in peace with us? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH) getting used to the powers. So easy to understand if you simply didn't want to hate the movie....

Doomsday is literally barely sentient, if he is at all. seeing as how every time he dies another clone is made, he is basically a literal rampaging toddler. It's more akin to killing a crocodile to protect yourself than killing an actual thinking being

It's his fault Superman has taken an out of character edgy turn for the worst

From what i recall of nolan, he made the dark knight trilogy with some... bad choices. For starters, tellin bale that throat cancer voice was ok. And he also did fill a lot of it with pretentious dialogue or basically messiah talk. No one ever talks about batman like that and frankly shouldn't be that way. I dont mind them having some talks once in a while, but having it constant is like that kid that yells NOTICE ME NOTICE ME I AM IMPORTANT ME USE BIG WORDS MEAN I AM IMPORTANT AND DEEEEP
@SA80TAGE7 жыл бұрын
Constructive Historian no those films weren't "cool", they were a mess of butchered characters. Not one single character could be considered accurate. And Bales Batman killed WAY more people than any other version, all while crying that "he doesn't kill".... he blew up a fortress full of ninjas! Crushed some henchman in a garbage truck! SHOT the driver of Talias Truck!

"Superman saves his mom but potentially dooms this entire town by bringing the battle to them" I'm sorry but wasn't Superman also throwing Zod though buildings and causing huge city-wide destruction in Superman 2?

He did for a bit but then led them to Antarctica. He also spent time helping people during the fight.

Meh, don’t worry about it. His jewish mom will make sure he feels guilty about that for the rest of his life. Because what makes her so special? It’s not like she saved him and sacrificed the best years of his life in order to enable him to become the savior of all humanity, or anything.

He literally handicapped himself in the Superman 2 fight by stopping to save people while Zod's crew beats him up and caused more damage to continue distracting him, before he got the idea to lure them to Antarctica and away from the city. Superman's main priority is always to protect people, before anything else. Meanwhile, after making out with Lois on top of the ashes of Metropolis and several hundred of its citizens, MoS Superman lightly glides over a tanker truck kicked at him by Zod just to turn around and watch it explode on the building behind him, causing the horrific deaths of hundreds more people by burning alive, falling through rubble and choking on debris dust, before MoS Superman finally gets the bright idea to snap Zod's neck and smash a satellite so nobody can spy on him

Superman rips Jokers heart out, nobody bats an eye. Superman breaks General Zods neck and everyone loses their minds.

I think it's because Superman wasn't pushed to the edge where he lost his morality and went genocidal. Here he didn't have a reason he could've just flown up so the lasers wouldn't have hit the family or diverted the laser but no, he just went the lethal way. Or that's what at least I think why people consider this controversial
@jonnyboy42894 жыл бұрын
That's because it's the evil Superman from another dimension. The real deal would never do that unless if it's a last resort.
@elijahlee36104 жыл бұрын
@@inky5574 "he could of flown up" and then what keep fighting? So you can complain about more people dying? Zod is the better fighter, the moment clark loses that advantage he will never get it back again. even if clark beats zod miraculously again, where are they going to put him? Theres no kryptonite, no red solar radiation, no phantom zone. There is no prison that will hold zod superman had no choice
