@@zanderbraincinemas6126 no, in the first matrix agents don't have their own digital bodies, they have to take over the bodies of someone who is jacked into the matrix. "Why is there a Matrix": maybe the machines were harvesting energy from human bodies directly from brain activity, since other muscles and organs in the bodies are undeveloped and weak due to lack of physical activities, hence they needed to have the brains stimulated, and the Matrix in its present form turned out to be the most effective form of a simulation.

@houseis
@houseis 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. It's also because the machines need humans to give them a purpose. It goes into this existential philosophy more in the sequels. The delivery of that philosophy wasnt the best though
@TheHoagieChef
@TheHoagieChef 4 жыл бұрын
But even that makes the Matrix redundant. If you use humans as an energy source, you have to keep them alive to be able to interact with the Matrix to produce energy. Pumping oxygen, pumping nutrients, producing the nutrients, temperature regulation, all require an energy source. Not to mention the Matrix itself needs an energy source just to function. Even if the machines managed to achieve the highest theoretical energy conversion rate of 99.999999%, they STILL would run out of power no matter how many humans they kept adding to the system. Geothermal, wind and hydroelectric power would solve all energy issues, plus, no need to keep rebellious humans around. Heck, go to space! All the solar energy you can choke down out there!
@Noisivus
@Noisivus 4 жыл бұрын
I like to think they use human brains for their processing power, with part going to the matrix and the excess used by the machines. That way people like Neo and Morpheus found a way to keep all their own processing power to themselves which gives them more control over the matrix.

exactly .... i was feeling kind of at odd with some of his points and now i know why. It's just taken too far, that this clip can no longer be tagged as a legitimate criticism that could point out potential drawback. Instead it warped into something what cinemasins do. I mean u will agree onto almost all the negative things/ mistakes that "cinemasins" guy comes up with, but at the end of the day i would never factor in everything that he pointed out to tag the movie. It is just fun to watch or hear those silly mistakes that doesn't affect the movie on the whole at all or its effect is negligible and that's all there is to it. It's "nitpicking", i'm sorry i have to write all those sentences, while in actuality i was trying to find this particular word :p.

Ah don't always agree with him reviewing/criticizing/making fun of movies ah consider just dump, harmless escapist fun no matter how reasonably bad they are according to most if not all, critics & public alike but at least he IS willing to show his face in his reviews and he is funny. Debatable...Star Trek had an existing fanbase that the Matrix, being the first film in the universe, simply didn't. Besides, look at the backlash against Kaitlyn Jenner, and that's only been in the past two or three years, with a person who was already somewhat famous.

+*** “yeldarb1983” *** Kaitlyn Jenner is a bit of a different case. She's a celebrity in the "shallow assholes and gossip" world, no fucking shit there's gonna be backlash. Another high-profile genderswap case is that of the Wachowskis themselves, and I haven't seen NEARLY as much hate for them as I've seen for Kaitlyn. And just because Dax was part of an established franchise, doesn't mean she COULDN'T garner gender controversy. Remember the "lesbian" kiss scene? No trouble with a male in a female's body, but she better not kiss no ladies no siree!

+Michelle Lehto true, but with an established franchise, unless you do something REALLY insane (or counter to the universe in a fundamental way), it's not going to be make or break. as for the wachoskis, as you pointed out, kaitlyn's career has declined into celebrity gossip/tabloid fodder and backseat to the reality show, where as the wakoski's are still getting work, (and probably riding the success of the matrix still).Plus didn't kaitlyn kinda come out first?kinda softens the blow not to be the first through the door, so to speak. not that I'm a huge fan of Mrs(Ms?) Jenner, mind you, I still think her getting off that manslaughter rap was complete b.s., but that's the usual celebrity revolving door legal system at work...

Never watched these movies so don't know the plot of the second or third movie. That said, it may be cliché but why not have the reason the humans are kept alive in the matrix world be not only for the machines to harness their energy, but also their creativity. AI might be intelligent, but could never match the creative nature of humans as a large portion of human creativity is birthed from being able to think outside the box in a manner that machines would find illogical. So it would not suit the machines to just make them brain dead or dream as without access to the illogical side of human consciousness they would never be able to solve novel problems that require true human creativity. That would be a lot better reason than what was described here, at least in the first movie.

There is actually a reason for the matrix to exist in the movie. Or at least, there was at one point. Originally, the robots were going to use humans as processors, which is why humans have so much control over the matrix.
@Korod1n
@Korod1n Жыл бұрын
Exactly! They couldn't render humans in their care fully inert or damage the brain in any way because that is the center of all actions and, thus, all the energy that would drive that action. Inhibiting thinking ability in humans would've been counterintuitive to the goal of harnessing their energy, so they needed something that would permanently prevent humans from using that energy but still generating it so it can be siphoned and they need something that will, ideally, prevent humans from realizing the truth about their circumstances forever. Enter the Matrix; a super sophisticated artificial reality that's basically the world's biggest, most in-depth videogame simulation of "real" life. Something for humans to "live" in while never being aware of the artificiality of the lives they lead. In this way, humans still plugged in generate energy when they react to the Matrix as an environment but, instead of their real bodies reacting in kind, a machine is sapping that energy.

I don't mind the "I don't like the Matrix" bit but I feel a lot of these criticisms are nitpicky and sometimes it sounds more like Nostalgia Critic doesn't like the movie because of the rabid fanbase rather than problems with the movie. A lot of the "plotholes" and such do require some suspension of disbelief, but this is true for almost any major movie. Star Wars had tons of things that reached pretty far and only later got explained away in extended materials. I think it comes down to the things you didn't like about the movie weighed heavily enough that you were unable to overlook them to see the movie's overall value.

@@predatorgamer4607 There are plenty of great movies that end up not getting the attention they deserve and there are plenty of bad movies that end up starting bad franchises (just look at the transformers movies). In my opinion both Star Wars and The Matrix are good and both have had a large influence on pop culture. The original Star Wars trilogy had 3 strong movies that kick-started the franchise. The Matrix had a very strong starting movie but 2 and 3 were weak enough to tank the franchise so we're not getting anymore of it. Just because there's no more Matrix movies doesn't mean it's influence on pop culture is gone, just look at how many movies were imitating the action and style of the Matrix after it's release and how that's carried through to today.

Yeah, as soon as my brother saw the "Neo is revived because love" scene, he said it would've been better if she had said "You can't be dead, because I don't love you yet". Think about it this way-from her point of view, these are the facts: 1. She will fall in love with the One 2. Neo is the One 3. She doesn't love Neo As such, if he's dead, she wouldn't have any time to fall in love with him, which means he can't be dead-it's factually impossible. This would mean that he wasn't revived by a 1985 Huey Lewis song, he just survived being shot a whole bunch because he's the One, and that's one of the things Morpheus said the One can do. All of the stupidity is eradicated by her admitting her LACK of infatuation for him, rather than, to repeat myself, ThE POWEr oF loVE!!!1!1!11!1 TL;DR: Tough. Read it anyway, lazy. It seems that (especially in marvel movies) in action movies you get a lot of jump cuts where you can't even tell what's going on, I'm sure it's easier and cheaper to do it that way, but the wirework and sound effects in these movies just made the action feel... I love this review though I like the first Matrix film. It still has a lot of moments that are easy to make fun of. I like how they take Neo to two or three dangerous simulations for his training, and never tell him that he can die in the Matrix. He falls and gets a bloody lip then says, "You die in the Matrix, you die in real life?" and Lawrence nods. That seems like something you should have told him right away instead of letting him get hurt and figuring out for himself. And my least fav part is when Trinity revives Neo with love. Again, I think The Matrix is awesome but that scene was super lame.

The Matrix really is one of those movies that age TERRIBLY! just the look of this film, the leather outfits, the shades, the green filter, it's so late 90s, it's Cyber Punk light and it just doesn't hold up. the only saving grace is the action, and this is what did hold up, the choreography, the movement and inventiveness of it all, but than again, other than novely it also wears off. if only The Matrix wasn't such a grim and serious movie, and had it embraced a stronger color palate and a bit more of a satirical edge, maybe it would have help up. but than again, maybe those things would have held it back from being a truly cohesive movie.

I don't think my opinion on it comes from ignorace. also "pseudo-intellectual armchair something something"- that's actually a better description of the movie than the critic.

To answer to the last point, "Why is there a Matrix", in the original script by the Wachowskys the humans were not supposed to be batteries, but processing units. The machines would be using most of the brain's capacity for their own uses, which is why they needed to keep it functional. The Wachowkys admitted as much in several interviews, but apparently the studies thought people wouldn't understand, as the general public was not yet as versed in computers by then. To paragraph a character from the webcomic Goliath by Neil Gaiman (in which the Wachowskys were extensively involved in writing): "I made the mistake of telling Susan some of what I believed one night - about how none of this was real. About how we were really just hanging there, plugged and wired, central processing units or just cheap memory chips for some computer the size of the world, being fed a consensual hallucination to keep us happy, to allow us to communicate and dream using the tiny fraction of our brains that they weren't using to crunch numbers and store information."

Kanz Red Dusk But that is still a bad plot device. I mean why would they allow the matrix to exist at all especially at that capacity. Couldn't they just input a reality that stimulates the brain but gives humans no skills whatsoever (they could think they're children or bugs). Sorry but the matrix is still a useless plot device.

I always assumed that the Matrix (the idea) was a final act of mercy from the machines. When Smith is interrogating Mobius, he said the machines tried to create a perfect world for humans through the first Matrix. But humans were so accustomed to pain and strife, they couldn’t adapt to it, and several died from the shock (which is silly in it’s own right).

For their faults, the sequel films actually do a good job of fleshing out a lot of the minutiae of the world, such as why the Matrix was first created. It's just too bad that it was done in a way that was often too confusing for audiences (the architect scene, etc). I'm not a matrix nerd, but I'm pretty sure a Matrix nerd could rebutt a lot of the points brought up in this video. Overall I think the series was actually pretty tight story wise, if sometimes hard to decode. As far as themes, I liked that they were accessible without being too obvious for most audience members. The line about "being my personal Jesus Christ" might seem obvious on the 2nd watch, but not the 1st as it happens so early in the movie. But even if all of that was crap, the atmosphere of the film alone makes it a classic. Not to mention the action, which was earth shattering in 1999. Judging movies based on how they age is silly, anyway. Like every great movie from decades past feels like was just made this year... Come on now, that's a tired notion that should be put to bed. I've got sacred cow flicks I hate too, but this review seemed oddly poisoned, like you'd been dumped by your girlfriend after you saw it, or something. So I can't really relate to your perspective. Still love your videos though.

There are a lot of action movies that have aged quite well, so it's not something that can't happen. And even back then, some of the shots already looked pretty damn bad even at the time. The acting was also pretty damn bland, specially Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss. They put out an actual pretty underhwelming performance and they have next to no chemistry. And they are two of the main characters, so it's distracting.

I just started watching this trilogy over the weekend and I’m currently nine minutes into Revolutions. I can say honestly I rarely watch a movie and actively try to find things that are bad or wrong with it, apart from a few exceptions. I find the best quality of a movie, or any form of media for that matter, is how well they entertain you. It’s hard not to notice some inconsistencies within these movies but, in my opinion, I feel that this movie is really good at keeping me immersed within the world. I didn’t see Neo or Morpheus as actors not acting their best or being given bad writing. I just saw this as how the characters were. They sometimes were strange, maybe even a little devoid of emotion, but I know people who can be like that. Anyway, I enjoyed watching the first one (the second one not so much) but I still enjoyed the twist at the end, even if I was the only one.

I read that Wachowsky's original idea was to make people within the matrix a cheap, EMP immune processors, since human brain is faster and can store more information than many modern computers. This is why people within the matrix had to be perfectly healthy and sustained. However the producers rejected the idea, claiming that this concept would be too difficult to understand for an average viewer. So they came up with an idea of making people simple batteries.

Nah, THE MATRIX is indeed a masterpiece. One of the greatest films ever made. Still holds up completely as a high-concept sci-fi as well as an action film. And if you’d done your research, you’d know the green tint on the first film was added for the Blu-Ray remaster in 2008. The waves on the building are actually pretty believable. In a simulation like this, with practically every atom in the world needing to get simulated, you gonna have to simplify stuff. Like buildings, which are programmed to stand there, not explode (it not a battlefield map, u know). The simulation will have possibilities for explosions, but they gonna load. Basically, the program is buffering the time until the actual animation is loaded. And those waves are easy to animate, because only the basic textures are needed
@emmanueludoidung5745
@emmanueludoidung5745 5 жыл бұрын
So the Matrix which can handle the actions of billions of humans all doing different things simultaneously cannot handle a building exploding? It can handle cars exploding, helicopters exploding, but not buildings? Also that is not how buffering works, if it was buffering there would be no animation at all before the explosion, certainly not a building wave that actually probably took more special effects than the explosion itself.

@@TiagoTiagoT Again that is not how programming works. In order for there to be a ripple animation, someone or something needed to sit down and create the ripple animation, which would actually be harder than just creating an explosion. If it was a case of cut corners then either there would be no animation at all or a shoddy unfinished animation. There would NOT be a shiny, flashy, well made ripple. Especially since the matrix was shown to have lots of explosion and destruction animations that could have been used as stand ins, wheras that is the only building ripple animation that we see. Nothing happens 'naturally' on a computer. Everything has to be made. If you fail to do something then the computer just does nothing, it doesn't have some naturally occurring backup.
