There were early observations that suggested his guilt. His first words to the 911 operator were "my wife shot herself". He blubbered like a woman throughout questioning. It is unusual for a woman to choose a firearm to end her life, and to be less than fully dressed. Beyond that, we don't learn anything admirable about creepy Colby. His mother seems to be pretty weird also.
