This sounds a lot like the Jean Claude Ramon case in France where a failed medical student led everyone to believe he passed, keeping a family and a reputation among his social circle. He need to defraud family members to pay the bills to maintain his image. That would be a good case study for Dr Grande.

That sounds like the Chandler Halderson case who was supposedly attending college and working part time, and offered a job at SpaceX. None of which were true, and his dad found out...

Also sounds like the case of Jennifer Pan, who made fake school records to convince her Asian parents that she had passed high school with straight A's. When they found out she was lying, she pretended to accept their ultimatum of pursuing an honest college degree, and then arranged for her boyfriend and his friends to murder them. Her father survived but ended up with brain damage from being shot in the face. I think Dr Grande has already covered that case, however.

A little less sorry since you said he was obnoxious to his soon to be ex-wife when trying to get her to remain with him. Well, I guess their marriage was not good since he never felt he could share information about losing his job etc. I don't think it is appropriate for one spouse to deal with the household finances while the other one does absolutely nothing with the finances. I mean paying bills etc., not necessarily earning the money. I hope the children made out ok with the father in jail and the mother with limited income!
