So much admiration for Gomez for having the courage to admit to these feelings that so many of us are socialized to repress and deny. Owning up to being a full human being, with the full range of human emotions, is much harder and takes a lot more nerve than hiding behind the tough-guy act. Beautiful retelling. :)

Men that get defensive about this are men that continue to place themselves in the "man box."

Can anyone explain why it's not possible for me to reply to, downvote, or report Guy Person's offensive post? If it IS possible for someone else, could THEY downvote or report it for me? Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry but not all men deal with either this "man up cloak" or have to embrace fears at any point in their life, or make it out to be anything more than what an event is. Sometimes something happening, is just something happening. Carlos' experience of what behavior he has become was mirrored off whatever happened to him as a kid, or insecurities were developed by the role models around him. Some people get too caught up with the dramatic effect of an event, and it holds them back.

It's say it's rare that a boy will go through his life without being told to "man up" one way or another by family, friends, peers, or even strangers in society. Media plays a role in this where men are tough and only show certain emotions. That pretty much affects all boys in one way or another especially in adolescence, where there is value in fitting in. 6 years later, I'd like to see if your thoughts have changed or not.

As a man I got nothing from this. His sad pathetic life was based upon external forces, and them telling him how to be a man. I wouldn't be shock if he was gay. I don't hide behind my emotion. I'm honest to the point, that I can hurt other people. And I don't have no remorse for it. That's to me is being secure in one's body. Knowing who you are, not what people think you are. He was hugged to much as a child.

goodnight Sir The fact that you felt the urge to call his life sad and pathetic just because he is being who he is, to me, shows your own insecurities. You seemed to want to raise yourself up by putting him down, which is a clear sign. Your comment is 4 years old, so I don't know your point of view today, but I'm commenting on what it was back then.
