Those are not 'Winter Chanterelle' (Cantharellus tubaeformis) mushrooms which mostly grow in bogs. These are 'Small chanterelle' (Cantharellus minor).

I appreciate the prep and cook part of this video! I have spent hours trying to identify these. I am comfortable with that now and tomorrow night I want to make some dinner with them! I took half the mushrooms I found in a small patch and left the rest for the next person to find, animals to eat, and the perpetuation of the species. 😀

Thanks! My wife took a course on identifying local edible mushrooms so we feel comfortable eating the ones we know. So please be super careful if you are new to this. I would always recommend going out with a specialist first. Cheers, Kent

These mushrooms grow rampant in Sweden during autumn. When i pick a lot of these i dry them and then turn them into a powder using a food processor. The powder can be stored for a long time and be used as flavoring in sauces. The habitat in your video looks a lot like it does in Sweden :)

Nice video! When mushroom hunting you should use a basket instead of a bucket so that the spores can fall and spread as you walk around the forest for bigger harvests next year. :-)

Also, keeps them from being water logged in the bucket. Good tip!

You can also save mesh bags from produce like lemons and put your mushroom finds in there dropping spores all over the forest as you forage.

This was a ton of fun to watch! I normally don't comment on videos in general but this is my second of yours that I have. Guess your content just inspires me to engage with the comments section for once XD I'd love to see more videos like this and maybe we can get some videos about the day to day on the homestead. I know I personally would love to know more about how you started homesteading and why you do it :D Cheers man and great job!

West coast mushroom growing habits are just so different. I live in Ohio and we've been finding chanterelles since the beginning of June. Just like what you were showing we're also finding russulas and amanitas and other ground growing mushrooms popping around the same time. Around here the chants grow around oaks in mossy , grassy or bare soil.

I married a Norwegian and chanterelles are a staple for her...when she can get them here in Utah. It’s too bad we live in a dry state and can’t forage for them. But in Norway, you run the risk of being beaten if you encroach upon a person’s secret spot for foraging. This is awesome! And those tarts look delicious!!! Cheers!

I thought only in Russia popular hunting for mushrooms :) as my grandmother said: all mushrooms can be eaten, but some only once :) Experienced mushroom pickers know that mushrooms must necessarily be cut with a blade and not in any case not to tear.

Hi, I am not a qualified mushroom specialist. We just wanted to make a vlog-type video here to show you what we find and how we prepare them. My wife did take a course in identifying some local wild mushrooms so we are comfortable eating what we pick. I'd suggest you do the same. So, please go out with someone experienced in local edible mushrooms to confirm in person what you are looking at.

Good fun, i used to enjoy hunting for mushrooms in the upper Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon. I always thought you should cut them off and leave the "stump" in the ground, what are your thoughts on that? Anyone?...
@MANaboutTOOLS
@MANaboutTOOLS 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Marilyn tries to leave the stumps in the ground when possible. Or at least tries to trim them off and let them fall where they are picked. If her hands don't get too cold.

Seems from this video that you were taking every mushroom you found - do you know that you should leave a good number in the forest. You seem a bit greedy.
