Very nice. Gotta say during my time in basic I mastered number one. When my time came to get my wisdom teeth pulled my RDC’s looked at the list saw my name and were like “who the fuck is this guy?”. Even though I’d had individual interactions with each one of them.

Not even letters. And I graduated basic when I was still 17. Could be sent by the president to fight but could not decide who that president was, lol

Every branch picks on eachother, it's what we do. It's not serious at the end of the day it's all love for your brothers and sisters. The difference between the guard and active duty army is that guardsmen maintain civilian jobs for a majority of the month, training 2-4 days a month and 2-3 weeks in the summer. For example, I'm a guardsmen. My regular job is working fugitive recovery for bail bonds, in the army guard I'm an infantryman. The guard also serves both the state government for at home missions such as natural disaster relief, border enforcement, and riot control and federal government for overseas missions. I've been to the Ferguson riots for the Guard and the middle east for the big army. The basic training for the guard, reserves and active duty is literally the same thing, everyone goes together.

This training is the same across the Army. The training in the video applies not just to National Guard but also to the Army Reserves and Active Duty. My father served in the Arkansas Army National Guard in the 1950s. He did his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana the summer of 1954. I asked him what his experience was like in Army basic training. He said he had a great time. He had a few run-ins with a certain sergeant but other than that it was a good experience.

in 1969 We packed up all our gear, put it on our back, filled both of our canteens with water, formed up, and marched out. to this day I don't remember the distance, I just remember the march. We marched out into the deepest part of the wilderness, and in pain and almost complete exhaustion turned around and marched back. I can remember when we was almost to the Company area I heard the order to Double Time.

You could have smoked in basic training, you’ve never seen half used cigarettes on the side of the road? The matches you got from MREs could be used to light it up. When you’re on fire guard and are cleaning outside, go drop something off at the dumpsters and smoke a cig over there real quick. I never broke the rules but I’m just sayin, if someone really wanted to they could have.

Civilian here asking advice from veterans. What are some things I should be doing to prepare my mind for the military? I’m working on my physical fitness. I’d like to enlist in the National Guard. Focusing on quitting my vices such as smoking and staying up to late. Reading a lot more. Trying to work on disciplining my mind. I grew up in an environment without a lot of structure. Without getting to into detail I feel as if it made me lack the consistency I need. So I’m curious if any Vets out there have advice on mental breaking exercises to focus the mind. 🙌🏿

If you’re still looking for advice, I’m gonna say this. Don’t be a shit bag. Apply yourself. Face every challenge with confidence no matter the complexity. This will get You far, not only in the military, but also in your life. Never quit at what you do. Always have false motivation. No matter what happens in life. No matter how angry you are, or how sad you are. Stay motivated. Don’t let anyone get to You. No matter what they say, or how they insult you, always remember you know the truth about what they’re saying.

I served six years in the NY Army National Guard (1963-1969), did 120 days active, (5), 16 day "summer camps", 296 training drills, activated once for a 'blackout' & got an Honorable Discharge! But, since I & thousands of other, former Guardsmen, didn't serve at least six months of active duty (not including training), we get absolutely "NO" Veteran's benefits, i.e. Health care or burial benefits in a Veteran's cemetery! Think twice, before joining!

Broccoli Side Dish people do snore at night, people also talk loudly at night, making it harder for you to sleep, if you tell them to shut up, they won’t, and there is nothing you can do about it, you don’t have any authority.
