I do not remember the exact year that Jim Reeves died, probably around 1964/5. (?) I was a little boy back then (in South Africa) and went with my parents over a week-end visiting neighboring farmers. The lady of the house was very upset (she told my mom) because she heard the news of JR's accident and death. Some of JR's music were playing in their lounge. I was- of course- ignorant to that taste of music and did not like it at all. Now, 55+ years on, and having been given the opportunity (thanks to KZbin) I must say that there has never been a smoother or more beautiful voice than Jim's. That is only part of my admiration for him. He was also a very humble and lovable person, and a true Christian. Thank you Jim for the example you set. I sure hope to meet you some day.............

Elvis was a god in the music world but he could be imitated to a tee where you couldn't even tell the difference, Ronnie McDowell was the absolute best at Elvis impersonations but nobody on this earth could ever duplicate Jims incredible baritone, Jim was truly special
@davidmacbeth90145 жыл бұрын
Yet RCA didn't really care about him,he even complained himself that his records weren't recorded loud enough,they didn't really care what records would be released as singles,he could have been a much bigger star,he only had FOUR Pop hits in America,but THIRTY-SIX U.K. Pop hits. He had recorded a lot of great songs that should have been released as singles,but never where released for some weird reason,songs like 'I Can't Stop Loving You','Wild Rose','Waltzing On Top Of The World','When You Are Gone','I Never Pass There Anymore' are far superior to 'Precious Memories', 'Whispering Hope''How Long Has It Been','But You Love Me Daddy' which should have remained as album tracks, The greatest mistake they ever made was not allowing Jim record with Patsy Cline,they did sing together once in a while on stage together,Why didn't they record them together,the recordings could have been released on RCA and Decca and they would have probably doubled their sales,because Jim and Patsys' fans would probably have bought the same record on both labels,but both labels seemed too short-sighted,or just wanted to have 'Full Credit',as a result they couldn't agree,so the chance was lost forever,still,it would have hurt Decca more,after all RCA had Elvis,they didn't really need anyone else,that is probably just as true today. Jim was approached by Tom Parker (he called himself Colenel,he was actually a Private,Elvis became a Sergeant,so outranked his 'Boss),at least |Jim turned him down,I can't imagine how Jim would have reacted to having Parker take him for 75% of everything,somehow I don't think he would have just 'rolled over' like Elvis did,thankfully Jim only made one mediocre film (the songs were good,but you could tell that Jim was not a 'natural ' actor),but Elvis was pushed into films he didn't want to do, although he did turn one down 'The Fastest Guitar In Town' a truly appalling film,Wht was Roy Orbison thinking?
