When advice is based on the positives and negatives on a pedal it's so worth watching. The great thing is that you managed to base it on what's positives for some, and in the same time might be a negative for some. Thanks for the info. Likebutton hit :)

I considered the Timeline, went for the Volante. And still ended up adding a Adineko delay as well. For the verb, I got a Silverlake. ES-5 does a pretty good job running it all but as per your advise, I got another controller for the ES-5 as well, Morningstar MC3- it's amazing what you can program on just one foot switch, Single press swaps verb for echo and echo for verb, double tap turns them both on and a long press turns them both off while patches in the ES-5 set the program #'s. Pretty slick.

Your comment about control confirms why I've always hesitated to add this pedal to my church pedalboard. I don't like doing the fast feet/pedal dance, and the numerous banks and how to switch them quickly on the fly...it's just too much for me. I use a Flashback x4 pedal, which has three buttons where you can easily save presets, plus the tap button on the far right. I save a quarter note delay to position 1, a dotted 8th to position 2, and leave position 3 open for other things depending on the set list. For songs that give me time, I tap in the tempo, otherwise, I can save three delays, for three songs (we usually have five in a service), ready to go. This does everything I need live, even if the tones are nothing near the Timeline.

I just got this pedal because i want to try it before I decide if I’m sticking with it. Saw it at a great price. And though it won’t replace my black star ht delay, it may become added to the pedal board. Been doing 10 delays a day so I’m not just glossing over any.

Would love to see a video of a step-by-step setup of your pedalboard effects chain with a specific setting - say a delay setting, a verb setting, and a chorus setting, saved to a channel on the boss es-8. Kinda like a masterclass on how to do that in the fastest way possible. Dialing in something typical for instance. Love the videos man. Keep them coming.

Set up all your song patches in groups so each different effect is next to the other. Rename them too as song names and parts. You could program an entire gig with user saves all in the order you require them in so you dont have to go through banks searching. Love mine and I dont midi it and dont tweak that much. Just made myself 200 amazing user presets.

Went for midi controller (morningstar MC8) & GFI Specular Tempus for similar-to-timeline reverb & delay fx. It’s $100 less than Timeline & has great reviews. I already have Boss RC500, so looping is covered. MIDI controllers are the game changer.

A Midi controller makes this pedal unstoppable. Without it, it’s a very difficult pedal to maneuver around like you said in a live setting. Strymon would do well to update that or attempt to least address the issue. Great video, explained very well.

Great points! Here's another view regarding the size: I actually think the pedal should be larger. Why? Because keeping it in the front row of your board can make it easier to use if the switches were spaced out just a little bit further apart. The ES-8 (for example) in my opinion, has the perfect spacing between switches to use in a live situation. I wish Strymon realized this and actually accommodated their switches for adult sized feet. However, going back to your point about MIDI - this then becomes irrelevant. If using MIDI, then smaller is best. If not, then give us some stomping room! My thoughts :) Cheers to another great video.

I've never used the DD-500, so I couldn't really say. The one thing I would miss from the Timeline going to a DD-500 is the ducking delay. I really like it on my solo patches.
@orryfishburne5326
@orryfishburne5326 3 жыл бұрын
@@ManBunMetalHead the ducking delay is really cool. I could definitely see myself actually using that delay engine. Same with the Ice delay. I wouldnt use it much, but it sounds more useful then the Boss Shimmer delay. I like the more organic, warmer tone of the Timeline, but i like the editing capabilities better on the DD-500 with its bigger screen and ability to use different delay engines between your stereo outputs. I also like how bright and percussive the DD-500 sounds in comparison, but it does sound very digital and can get really brittle. I also have a MD-500, so im already used to the screen and how to edit patches and the DD-500 would match with it, but that organic warmth of the Timeline makes me want to gravitate towards buying it. I feel like i would get lost in its editor though since i can only see one parameter at a time. They both sound good in their own way. Its such a hard decision. Lol

I recently got the BigSky and the Timeline and I cannot say enough good things about them. I love them both. However, I will say if you want to use them live I think they cater more to the programmable switcher crowd of guitarists. Not saying you can't use them without one, you certainly can, but in a live setting, switching reverb/delay settings on both pedals quickly without a switcher would be difficult for me. That said - they are amazing pedals and sound superb either way.

I wish I would have seen this video 6 months ago. I have a Strymon Timeline and it is a very nice looking and sounding pedal. But I go back and forth whether I really need it. It has more features than I really need or use, it was expensive, and it takes a lot of room in pedalboard. I dig the digital delay and tape delay on it but that s it.

I have all three strymons and an ES-8, and i absolutely feel lost. It is a tremendous pedal, but think i am one of those set it and forget types you mentioned. Any suggestions, or perhaps are you able to do a private zoom call lesson? Obviously your time is worth something, so i don't expect something for nothing. I've got two UM-ones, and can program both the strymon nixie and use the ES-8 editor. I would like to set up verse \ chorus patches for about 5 songs. I think once i do that, i should be able to remember and repeat the steps for any other song after that. One final note. I also have a boss RC-10 drum machine \ looper on my board, but it isn`t controlled by midi. I would like to do that as well. Right now i have the BigSky, Timeline, and Mobius connected \ controlled by midi using the ES-8. I had the board set up by a pro, but am not getting out of it, what i put into it, largely because i feel frozen like a deer in the headlights

I guess this really depends on the type of music you’re playing. If you don’t use a ton of delay then this isn’t for you. However, I love my timeline and IMO it’s a lot easier to use than the DD20 and quite a few other delay pedals. My drummer plays with a click track so I need a delay with a programmable BPM. Obviously I love the sound and the different delay types.

good point. i have this pedal for electronic music, and it has really a lot of stuff. difficult to use all of it! i never went into the editing as the manual is actually just one silly page, with a lot of stuff to memorise, like all the knobs are changing between every type of delay selected. so if u randomly using any filter / grit than u will get really different effect and the sound at the end will resoult just a mess in the ending mix! involves a lot of study. plus the looper is not that easy to use!

I own a timeline and have for about two years. I love strymon but man. Idk why. But I don’t love this pedal. I find the filter and speed controls to be semi pointless most of the time. The looper could be 15 seconds longer and would be incredibly helpful. As much as I love fiddling with knobs, I just find this pedal to be little fun to toy with. I have a memory boy which still sounds better and is somehow more fun to play with. I’d recommend anyone look into what’s out there now first before committing to this pedal at this point in the game. I will most likely sell mine soon.

When i just got a timeline, i tried for an hour, put it back to box, and put it to store. Kicking myself in the balls for spending so much for a delay and i don't know how to get the basic sounds for some simple rock songs. The delay effects in my cheap fender lt 50 amp, smoke this delay pedal out of water easily- my thoughts at then. Heart broken and keep weeping🤣. ( i am not a working musician nor am i IT salvage). This timeline pedal presets are full of the 80s' organ or keyboard weird sounds which i thought, in which songs you are going to hear this type of effects? 1 month later, i took out the pedal, tweak and play again, this time, 15 mins, go back to the box. I told myself, no way i am going to sell this as the used market rate at my place is about 35-45% off. I spent quite sometimes reading from TGP for weeks. Evidently, most people who used timeline are ambience or church crowd. I thought, this time i am really screwed, i dun play those genres. And then, in a post with thousand threads, i found a post with few settings for simple basic use, then it rekindled my hope of using this pedal. From there, i managed to grasp the use of this pedal. And after practises with friends on some songs having them recorded, i realised the delay sounds and playing feels are phenomenal which honestly, those moderate costing delay pedals can't keep up with. My use on timeline are still very basic, but i can't part with it. Guess i will keep it until circumstances doesn't allow me too. Thank you for reading my so boring rant not rant.

I was dreaming to get this pedal. The time came that I could afford it. I struggled to get to the sweet point of this pedal. But being an occasional and totally improvising electronic live act I had precisely the problem of not being able to implement it on the scene in a live situation. I ended up with a situation of when(due to bad monitoring) I made this self oscillate. The public was listening to a siren like "effect" for more than 15 minutes. Additionally with the different presets some of the knobs act differently. And as I mentioned: occasional: this means I cannot experiment while performing, which was my goal, the sweet points are too narrow, ping pong is not as great as in ableton, in the end a dream come true became a nightmare come true. Did I regret selling it? Nope. There was a positive aspect of having it for a while: had my own impressions on it(and not those of the yaysaying knee-bowers). I cannot call it built like a tank because I opened it several times(to implement a magnetic coupler) and while the interior is clean, the enclosure is prone to twisting so I had to forcefully readjust it until it sat correctly on the stand. Also I had a wobbling switch, probably thy guy from whom I bought it was jumping on the pedal like insane, but i am not too convinced, have seen better. An important thing to mention as well is the fact that the LCD is a peace of shit: It scratches easily(i protected it with a smartphone screen protector cut-out) and once you delve into menus with longer names or presets with long names, there is no way to read tho complete name unless you change it and hope you're quick. Now imagine this with several hundred other knobs I use with my live rig.
