The legends version of the clone wars was much more Dark and it had the atmosphere of the prequels.

That's definitely the biggest thing for me when thinking about the CWMMP vs TCW. Across all itsmedia, the CWMMP completely captured the tone and atmosphere of the prequel movies, departures from that tone typically felt like good tone breakers rather than anything unimmersive. TCW however was forced to bring on a more kid friendly atmosphere, yes it has its dark moments but the show was brimming with quips and lightheartedness and the general sense of the good guys always winning no matter the odds. This would be fine for a show, if it's scale also wasn't showcasing and replacing *all* aspects of the clone war. It always felt so disconnected to me for that reason.

I love both versions of the clone wars but one thing I do like better about this one is that Jedi died more often Palpatine’s sole purpose for starting the clone war was after all to destroy the Jedi We didn’t see that often enough in canon. Hell there’s even a throwaway line in the show when Dooku calls Grevious bitching about how there seems to be a noticeable lack of dead Jedi lately

@@clonetrooper2003 the Galactic Civil War refers specifically to the conflict between the Rebel Alliance(later New Republic) and the Galactic Empire. The Imperial Civil War was the internecine conflict that began in 4 ABY and lasted until 12 ABY between the various Imperial factions.

Oh oh, we got a problem Tadd, unfortunately you by accident put Yoda: Dark Rendezvous after Anakin's knighthood in Clone Wars (2003) Chapter 21, which is not how it truly went. Yoda: Dark Rendezvous says that Anakin is not yet a Knight but is not a Padawan either, and the book ends with Anakin arriving at Coruscant and Padme rushing off to meet him, which we later see them meet on the streets of Coruscant in CW 2003 Chapter 21. Also the New Essential Chronology (2005) also places Yoda: Dark Rendezvous before Anakin's Knighthood. So you definitely gotta mention this mistake in an anotation or on the description or something; or you purposefully put Yoda: Dark Rendezvous after Anakin's knighthood on CW 2003 Chapter 21?

Wonderful update on an older video! I really enjoyed recapping the events from an overarching storyline thats near and dear to my heart even though I experienced it over a decade after it had originally been published. I’d love to see more coverage on the Dark Times era, since some of the web comics from then remain unconcluded on my part, and I haven’t had the chance to read every novel from that period.

Yup, this is what the official clone wars timeline looked like before the 2008 clone wars series retconned all of it and created a rift in the Legends Timeline continuity. No shoe-horned nonsensical padawans for Anakin Skywalker, no pacifist Mandalorians, no inexplicably alive Darth Maul, and no brain chips in the Clone Troopers. If I ever do videos on the new "canon" I'll be sure to include all of that, however I view "Legends" as "what came before the current canon" and I firmly believe thats what viewers want to see when they watch a "legends" lore video.

I thought Raxus Prime was the junk planet from Force Unleashed. 27:20 If both happen in Legends, I think that original Clone Wars events would happen second, mostly out of the end of the series having Anakin repair his hand as he and Obi Wan get the Coruscant message and it makes no sense that Anakin would go into battle without his robotic arm being intact, especially if it was thought that Dooku was on the planet.

Raxus prime isnt fully a junk world, there are habitation centers. It served as the symbolic capital of the CIS because thats where Dooku first announced his secession. Having tythe after nelvaan was my choice as i had to extrapolate between the events of Labrynth of Evil and the original Clone wars series which don't inherently line up (probably the only major inconsistency within the Clone Wars Multimedia Project I've found thusfar). Alot of the sourcebooks have tythe after nelvaan but i agree with you, that makes more sense

I mean, I hate the sequels with a fiery passion but that doesn't mean that I consider those that enjoy them as "inferior fans", and those of us who do are people that really need a psychologist. But yeah, if you are new to Legends, I have a few suggestions from where to start: -Star Wars: Republic dark horse comics -Darth Bane: Path of Destruction novel -Heir of the Empire (perfect read if you just finished Ep VI) -Revenge of the Sith novelisation (different from the movie and, imo, a better version) -Shatterpoint Have a great day!

You forgot about the Battle of Tatooine of 19BBY where the CIS wanted to reconquer Tatooine, thanks to the efforts of two force sensitive clones of Fallon Grey, X1 and X2, the Republic managed to defend the planet. These two clones were later awarded by Chancellor Palpatine himself Moments before the battle of Coruscant. (Source: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Elite Squadron DS) You've also forgot about the 501st campaing on Felucia were they fought on that planet for months. These clones were probably led by Bariss Offee as she was seen operating on Felucia and later captured by the Separatists she was the main reason Aayla Secura was sent to Felucia. (though it's not confirmed that Bariss led the 501st garrison on Felucia, it's part of my headcanon and i wanted to share it. My sources for saying the 501st participated in a campaign of Felucia before the Arrival of Aayla Secura and her troops is Star Wars Battlefront 2. And my source for saying Bariss was on Felucia is the webcomic Reversal of Fortune)

Labyrinth of Evil is my all time favorite out of this era, followed by the Republic Commando series. Shatterpoint was really good, Jedi Trial was a good story, I just didn't like the author's style and Cestus Deception had some really bad writing, story was okay though.

One thing I like about old canon was it was never hard facts with anything, and the Clone Wars was the perfect example. For example, did the 2003 series really happen like that or was it exaggerated to cover up how truly deadly and horrible the clone wars Was, was the 2003 series ending how things went down before Ep3 or were the books how things happened. Basically, you can pick and choose which story is the one that happened.

Erm, the chronology is more rigid than that. The only real "contradiction" between sources in the multimedia project is between Labrynth of Evil and the last fe chapters of Star Wars: Clone wars. Other than that, I havent noticed any other conflicts. The authors within the Clone Wars Multimedia Project generally worked together to maintain consistency. And to answer your question, the 2003 Clone Wars series was purposely left open with time gaps to allow other sources to exist, it doesnt chronicle the entirety of Anakin and Obi-wan's experiences during the war.

@@Manda-LORE Oh it's not that I think the different conflict's with each other, it's more like they don't tonally fit and thematic don't fit with each other, and some stories are very self-contained. The 2003 series doesn't fit well with the republic comics by dark horse, one bi=eing super gritty and the other over the top. That and some stories are I feel S canon like the Chriss Sith Lady, she doesn't appear or is mention outside of that game she shows up in. So I've always taken some things as more canon than others, But I can see why others see it differently.

Do you think palpatine had plans for the clone wars to be much shorter than 3 years? Because he allowed the separatists to attack Kamino pretty early in the clone wars to destroy production of the clones. If the republic wasn’t ready the war could have been over shorter than 3 years.

To palpatine, the clone wars were a mechanism to help kill off the jedi, the more that were killed off by battlefield attrition, the less that had to be killed off and accounted for when order 66 arrived. He also wanted to accrue more power, passing amendment after amendment to the constitution giving more power to himself and taking away power from the other institutions that provided checks and balances as well as stripping freedoms from republic citizens. So with those 2 factors alone, I think he wanted the war to drag on as long as possible and whatever eventuality occurred, he'd still win playing both sides. The kamino attack was also a good excuse for him to set up a secret cloning facility on couscants moon after acquiring the spaarti cylinders from thr battle of Cartao.

@@Manda-LOREI like to think Palpatine originally had a much longer schedule in mind, but his hand was forced by various factors. It would probably have been much easier to carry out the Grand Plan if the Clone Wars had been dragged out to 5+ years (less Jedi, more destruction, further accrual of emergency powers and control of institutions), and Anakin would've been much easier to seduce with the darkness of a prolonged war accumulating within him. The Vong weren't Palpatine's main concern, but he was fully aware that there was an extragalactic threat that was scouting the Outer Rim, so things needed to move more quickly than he would've liked. It would do no good to wait and wait, only for his new Empire to be crushed by a foreign invasion before it got off the ground. Palpatine was eminently focused on maintaining the mystery of his secret identity, but there were several near misses which probably alarmed him, to say nothing of the fact that he was tracked to 500 Republica during the Battle of Coruscant. That was only going to continue if the war kept going past 19 BBY. What further complicated matters was the reality of Anakin becoming a father - Whilst he always feared for his loved ones and couldn't handle the idea of their deaths, Padme successfully giving birth to Luke and Leia means Anakin is fulfilled and less isolated. If the Jedi make an exception and don't exile him, even worse. Palpatine needs Anakin alone, stressed and distrustful of everyone around him in order for his manipulation to work. There's also a minor issue posed by the Delegation of 2000. Palpatine can't control every single aspect of the war and the longer it goes on, the greater the chance of a sustained Republic push or a member state of the CIS dropping out. That then prompts someone from the Loyalist Committee to start proposing Palpatine cede one or more powers, and then it quickly becomes an avalanche, derailing the whole reluctant, benevolent dictator facade. If the Clone Wars go on longer than 19 BBY, it becomes that much harder for Palpatine to keep playing both sides, as well as necessitating a new approach for turning Anakin. Having Padme, Luke and Leia killed is the easy second option, but that runs the risk of leaving Anakin in the same state of melancholy he was in as Vader, or the Jedi supporting him and preventing Palpatine from spinning the situation to make them look bad to him. If anything, Palpatine is exceptionally lucky that everything worked out the way it did in 19 BBY, Vader's loss to Obi-Wan aside. The walls were starting to close in on him by the time Revenge of the Sith starts.

I got the vibe in Revenge of The Sith that Palpatine decided to accelerate his plans after witnessing Anakin's potential in the duel against Dooku on the Invisible Hand and deciding he wanted him as his apprentice *now* while he was still in his most emotionally vulnerable and powerful state. Palpatine telling Anakin to "dew it" likely wasn't originally planned and Palpatine did start to rush things along and thumble a bit (like when he got pinned by Widew), so I do like to believe he hit the accelerator as soon as Anakin beat Dooku effectively giving the signal Anakin was "ready" to be his apprentice.

You might have addressed this elsewhere, but where do you put Ventress’ recruitment on the timeline? In the Clone Wars 2003 series, it looks like Dooku gives her the red lightsabers and sends her to eliminate Anakin on Muunilist for her first mission, though in this timeline she’s sent on several missions for Dooku (with the red lightsabers) before that occurs.

They never specifically mention Muunilinst during her recruitment and the New Essential Guide To Chronology places the event 2 years before the outbreak of the war. This is to account for Anakin and Ventress first meeting in the comics which happens a full 2 months before Muunilinst. So Muunilinst wasn't their first meeting.

The new essential chronology puts the event at 24 bby but as long as it takes place before Anakin & Obi-wan's mission to ohma d'un then headcanon it as you wish. I'm just going by what the official sourcebooks say.

Comic book shops, comic conventions. Maybe on darkhorse's website. Marvel has republished some of them in 3 volumes of the "Legends Epic Collections" however they mix TCW tie-in material as well as some infinities stuff which kinds breaks the immersion.

Dark horse omnibus and single issues are better. The Marvel Epic Collections mix up the chronological order of comics and also throw in some comics that tie into TCW, so if you're looking for a pure clone wars multimedia project experience, I don't recommend the marvel epic Collections

@@leoroemer6085 They accounted for that by making ROTS take place not exactly at the beginning of the year 19BBY. ROTS takes place (the duel on Mustafar at least), in *16:5:23**Grs* (ignore the link) so the 23rd day of the 5th month of the year 19BBY (this also coincides with the film's real life release date in May of 2005). This is a good thing too not just for the reason you noted above but that also creates problems with the gestational periods of Luke and Leia. In this video as well as most of my videos, I round up/down to the year unless I'm discussing a very specific event that has a date down to the day associated with it.

For example, Anakin isnt made a jedi knight in this timeline until 2 years and 6 months into the war and he never gets a padawan learner. The mandalorians aren't pacifists in this timeline and work for the separatists among many other things. I definitely agree that the only thing that both universes should share is the original 6 movie saga. I like both canon and legends I won’t lie some legends things I like better than canon but I’m also a fan of stuff canon has done like the cross guard lightsaber and Starkiller base. I wish we got to see Finn be like Kyle katarn like originally planned though. Both are equally valid at this point even if I don’t love things about each. Star Wars truly is for anyone to enjoy!

I get it, disney made a lotta bad decisions when making star wars, but the 2008 clone wars was still great and did some things better than the legends clone wars, like the inhibitor chips, and making anakin a lot more tolerable, he was heroic, kind, but leaned occasionally into the dark side, and it shows how anakin slowly loses respect for the jedi, but legends clone wars is def more darker which is nice, but the 2008 clone wars still had a bunch of dark moments, both versions have good things, its okay to perfer one over the other, but its odd some people say your not a true fan if you perfer the canon version

@dawudabdulali3827 the inhibitor chips were a cop-out because the writers made the clones too human and weren't creative enough to capture the nuance of how order 66 previously was portrayed, which they still could have done without sacrificing the clone's humanity, See my video that I did on the organization of the GAR (I made it recently so it should show up near the top of my channel page) where I explain more in detail about order 66 than I could in a comment. Also, Anakin acts nothing like his film counterpart in the show, which breaks the suspension of disbelief that this is the same chatacter. In fact, the whole show was seemingly written like an apology for the existence of the prequel films, which I fervently feel don't need to be apologized for. That's fine if you like the show but it doesn’t fit within the EU (Legends) and I omit it whenever necessary and I will never be convinced otherwise so don't bother wasting your breath.

While I do enjoyed this timeline, there's things that TCW made better than this one, such as showing the clones developing as their own individuals and also how the Separatist council (not the one made up by corporations) actually worked, and sure, it does contradict certain things, but I do not believe is as much of a legends breaker as many claim (or in other cases call the series trash). There's plenty of things that can coexist between the Legends CW timeline and TCW, for example: Mandalore could keep it's pacifist goverment arc while also keep the Mandalorian Protectors as a different mandalorian faction, it doesn't affect each other that much, specially since the Protectors were against Death Watch in Legends, the latter of which could stay most the same. The inhibitor chips also work very well with the Order 66, since it is a failsafe to ensure that ALL clones follow the order without question, as the clones that develop their independence and became more self aware would believe that there was something wrong about that criptic message (and the chip could also work with the other orders). With Assaj, I believe she could have her arc seein in Clone Wars modified so that it can better fit her Legends one (which I personally prefer) while at the same time, plenty of events in the series can coexist in Legends timeline without much issue as they do not directly contradict one another. There's some things I agree should be corrected, like how ARC trooper is a rank any clone can reach, it should rather be that certain troopers qualified to become a new ARC trooper undergo a series of special training sessions to making them proper ARC troopers. There's other ways you can make both of them fit, not completely, of course, but it can work for anyone who wants to have both of them as their headcanon

TCW does not only contradict Legends but also contradicts the movies themselves, such as giving Anakin an apprentice and the Inhibitor Chips.
