I was a Girl Scout myself, I’m 26 now, but the money from the GS cookies goes to the Girl Scout troop which allows them to do things so it’s like a fundraiser. We used it to buy supplies to do volunteering and projects for the community. But also if you sell so many cookies that money can go to getting a free trip to Girl Scout camp which is highly expensive but it’s fun. So those that can’t afford it will sell more and more to get to that Girl Scout camp experience

I was a Girl Scout and some of the money goes to each troop so that the troop leaders can do activities with them without the money coming out of their own pockets. Some of it goes to the community and it’s used for events and other things for the girls. And for some families who can’t afford much it’s sometimes the only times their kids get to go do fun things!

My daughter was a Girl Scout for many years. Every year they pick a cause to donate to and about 15% of their proceeds go toward it. Last year the girls chose human trafficking and endangered animals. The rest of the money goes back to the cookie bakers And the girls for camping and activities

My daughter was a Girl Scout from kindergarten to 12th grade. They learn how to run a business through selling cookies. And they use the money to go towards other adventures where they learn things to earn badges. One year my daughters troop sold enough to pay to go to Savannah Georgia for a week where Girl Scouts all began and they visited the grave of the woman who started it all. The scouts also do a TON of giving back to the community. So Girl Scouts are pretty important 😊

As a former girl scout I would like to tell you all my personal experience. I lived doing cookie sales. We would get costumes of the cookies, make up songs to sing, and dance. The proceeds from our sales were used towards an annual trip. It taught us how to plan and budget (better than school did). It was a great experience. Side note. I swear that Samoas and Caramel Delights are different. They are made by different bakeries for girl scouts. "They are the same cookie." I don't think they are they taste different to me. If they are not I guess my taste in cookies have changed over the years.

I was a Girl Scout for 12 years. The money from cookie sales goes back into the girls. It goes towards experiences for the girls as they earn badges along the way. One year my cookie sales sent me to a Horse lovers camp, for a week in the summer where I learned how to care for and ride horses. Through girl scouts I learned a lot of things that I never would have, and got to experience things I wouldn't have been able to do if I wasn't a girl scout. Like going to Canada and participating in Peace Arch there 2 times. Going to a professional basketball game after doing a big walk to contribute to the community, and my specific Troop did give back projects. Such as serving tea and lunch to an organization raising money for the senior center in our area. The money basically goes towards the girls learning important things for life, and getting to do and see things a lot of these girls would never have been able to do on their own.

My kiddo is a Girl Scout! A small percentage of their sales are returned to the troop. Our troop is using them to pay for uniforms (bc not everyone can afford them, they’re pricey) and taking the girls to the science museum. Some troops save their money and go on big trips. We also sold cookies to donate to a local nursing home. I have no idea what happens to the rest of the money bc I agree, they’re expensive. More than anything, it taught our Girl Scout to talk to people and run a mini business bc that’s what it ends up being, it’s a huge undertaking for the whole family. Oh and to answer Shane’s hypothetical question, the thin mints are dairy free and vegan! 😂 Love the podcast, y’all are great!

As a past Girl Scout (kindergarten all the way to senior year of HS) I can say from my experience we donated ALOT of money back to our community. I’m talking like thousands. I also sold cookies and nuts and candy for about three years to raise money so I could travel to Peru with a group of girls to do community service over there as well. I loved Girl Scouts and I’m so glad I was apart of it. It makes me sad how much it has changed since I’ve been in it and I’m not going to have my daughter be involved, it got a lil too weird.

I am a former girl scout who went to ambassador and we had donated a like a lot of money but also be like made a gift box for people that were in the army and we like have these points were we go to a certain place with those points but with my girl scout troop we like went to Canada and all this and this is actually how I learn like economics and spline demand

My daughter was in Girl Scouts this year. Their sales went towards an over night trip to the Santa Barbra Zoo but the only covered the girls in the troop and the parent has to pay nearly $100 to go with their daughter plus pay their own way to get there and food. I’m a low income single mom and my daughter has type 1 diabetes. I can’t afford to go with her so all her hard work was for nothing because now she can’t go.

I first found Shanes channel right after my mom passed away in 2014. I've been watching ever since. I remember when I was in some of my deepest depression i would just binge watch all your content. Shane, Your videos really helped me get through some of the darkest moments of my life. and even though I've never met you and I never will, I actually refer to you as my friend. My husband isn't your biggest fan, and any time he rolls his eyes I just yell at him don't you talk about my friend! And he goes HE DOESNT know you exist! I was in Girl Scouts for my entire childhood/some of my teen years- our troop used cookie money for doing fun activities/going to camp. It was really fun and honestly one of the only reasons some of the girls went anywhere and had experiences like that! We went to an archery camp once and it was the best. You also got a special patch for your vest/sash which was always satisfying for my collector brain lol. So sure, the cookies are expensive and not all of it goes to the girls, it's still a nice thing imho.

I am a huge supporter of these organizations because they do do so much with our youth and teach them incredibly important skills that not a lot of people have! There’s a reason and place and need for everyone and all the skills! 🥰 Including Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and all of the positions and organizations alike!

i am currently a 12 year scout going on 13! i graduate out next year but the troops i’ve been in have given me so many opportunities and important life skills. i’ve seen many people come and go but i have also seen the passion and dedication the leaders and othe scouts have. we use some money for our end of year trip but majority of what our funds are go to projects and community service events! cookies are expensive now but it does so much for all the girls involved!

I started it and found a new place to live which I’d been looking for over a year, got a nice place with a yard for my dog, and am embarking on my best life. Believe and achieve my friends ❤
