As others have said, Callum Giles was the hockey player (so close Seb!), and it was his drag flick on short corners that he would get brought on specifically for - where he'd score, more often than not. It was considered a bit farcical that a player at international level could come on for seconds just to bang in a goal, so the rules of the game have since been changed so that players cannot be subbed on (rolling subs in hockey) at short corners.

I think the Murtough section was covered well, even gave an understanding for why the fans might have planned the protest. Agreed with everything bar Jon’s assertion that the Anti-Glazer movement has only happened due to United not winning things anymore. This is a popular sentiment you see and it’s just not true. The Anti-Glazer protests have absolutely gotten more severe and vocal the past 8 years but the movement has been in place and popular during our largest period of success since they took over. I remember going to matches over 2009 to 2012 and there was seas of green and yellow LUHG scarves, banners and shirts. United fans have been Anti-Glazer since day one. It has just ramped up

The hockey player was Calum Giles. Giles collected 143 caps and has scored 110 international goals. He was a short corner drag flick specialist who was known for being subbed on especially to flick at short corners. He was so prolific the rules of hockey were changed to prevent a player being subbed on specifically to flick at short corners. He did continue to play internationally after the rules changed and competed at the Atlanta & Sydney Olympics.

As an Arsenal fan I personally liked the Vieira pick up. These days, it seems as though Smith Rowe has moved further away from playing as a 10, to playing in that LW/left forward role and switches off with Martinelli. I think we need a clear backup, and someone who CAN play as both an 8 or a 10, to support Odegaard or be his backup. Additionally, when we came to the end of the season squad depth was obviously one of our big problems and it was apparent in our defense and midfield. With us now playing in Europe, we need to make signings that can grow into playing in the EPL, but also have Europe experience all of which Vieira brings to the table playing with Porto. I think he's a great signing, and Porto fans have rated him highly. I hope he merges well into the team!

Mane was criminally underpaid, I can't speak to the sentiment Liverpool fans had for the man but seemed under appreciated too. Chamberlain earning more than him sitting on the bench is disgraceful given what he did for them. Elite player, the usual bias.
@syc25432 жыл бұрын
10 players earned more than him at LFC. The board can't justify 7 of the 10. He was part of their big 3: him, Salah, VVD. Only those 2 could justify earning a bit more than him.

I think eventually 5 subs will come in as a way to ease the increase in games per year teams are being asked to play with more European games, more European competitions, more international tournaments, as well as 40-50+ games a season domestically between the league and 2 cups. Teams from about 8th down are currently against it because they see it as only benefiting the top clubs who can afford more squad depth, but don’t see how it will help them compete better on more fronts.
@juiceboxleal62542 жыл бұрын
I think the 5 subs is good but it’s a bit overstated. It’s not gonna change all that much and alot of teams won’t even utilize it every game

The prefix 'Pog' really works - totally in-line with his brand. Easily used in discussions regarding football, as in, "That player is utter Pogshit" or "His workrate was "Pogshit", or "What an absolute Pogshit hair cut that is... who the F does he think he is? Paul Pogba?" So on, and so on.
@davidlean10602 жыл бұрын
Despite Pogba being more concerned with his 'brand' than his football, I don't think his brand amounts to diddly squat! Ronaldo was only able to cultivate the CR7 thing because he was so good and scored so many goals. Pogba's brand has very little to sell, if you follow me. All he amounts to lately is some silly hair cuts and a bad attitude!
