This is the original studio version of the song by Manfred Mann. Enjoy
Lyrics:
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong,
play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night
But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone,
that's where they expect it least"
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner,
watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
Now Scott with a slingshot finially found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
And some bloodshot forget-me-not said daddy's within earshot save the buckshot, turn up the band
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong"

When my mom showed me this song at like 5 or 6, she was a 70's chick and how she had some of her best memories with this song, When I told her my best memory was cruisin' down a dirt road at 2am with 4 buddies, stoned on hash and drunk while this was playing, it was like she relived her teen years again. Best time of my life

According to Springsteen, the song came about from going through a rhyming dictionary and looking for rhymes. The first line of the song, "Madman drummers, bummers, and Indians in the summers with a teenage diplomat" is autobiographical-"Madman drummers" is a reference to drummer Vini Lopez, known as "Mad Man" (later changed to "Mad Dog"); "Indians in the summer" refers to the name of Springsteen's old Little League team; "teenage diplomat" refers to himself. The remainder of the song tells of many unrelated events, with the refrain of "Blinded by the light, cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night".

The word deuce, in both the Springsteen and Earth Band versions, refers to a 1932 model Ford.
@alexisdi
@alexisdi 9 жыл бұрын
Manfred Mann's Earth Band's recording of the song features several changed lyrics. The most prominent change is in the chorus, where Springsteen's "cut loose like a deuce" is replaced with "revved up like a deuce." This is commonly misheard as "wrapped up like a douche" (the V sound in "revved" is almost unpronounced, and the S sound in "deuce" comes across as "SH" due to a significant lisp"

WOW..... Someone posted a great classic rock song on KZbin, described it as "original" and "studio version", AND IT IS!!!! Way too often I've tried to find a classic, original studio version, but I've had to sift through all the riff raff of live versions (which could be great "if I was watching them live"), or the occasional re-released/re-edited/alternate versions, and/or the shorter "single" versions, (which can be okay on the radio), but rarely are any of those better than the original LP versions. And THEN, there's the 'covers' that are said to be original, and include the name of the original artist/s. Some of those covers may even sound decent and highlight some talent, IF, they put "COVER" in the title. But, people who upload videos of cover songs calling them "original version", just pisses me off when it's not the original song/album/artist that I'm looking for. It's an "original cover", but it's still a cover. Last week I went looking for Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door". After an exhaustive search I found the original version, but most were crap. What really got me was how many people Google+ those crappy covers AS the original. It's Bob Dylan, if they don't know his voice, they need to have their Google+ rights taken away from them, rather than pass on such bad info - lol. Today I went through and added a bunch of songs to my watch later list, so they could be playing while I did other things in the office. When it got to this song, the version I had playing was supposed to be the "original", but it was live. Ugh..... It just didn't work for me. I thought to myself, "I'd much rather listen to "The Roaring Silence", than listen to this live version of this song (some of you will get that). Had it been a two and a half minute song, I might have been able to ignore it, but Mann's 7 minute LP version, is part of it's allure. And I know technically, the original "Blinded By The Light", was released by Springsteen, several years prior to Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but let's be honest; If you weren't listening to Springsteen's "Greetings From Ashbury Park" album, you weren't hearing this song, and after MMEB released their version, Bruce's version sounds like it was HE who was trying to cover a Mann song. That's not to dis "The Boss", it's just that it's as if he sat down and wrote this song just for Mann. And now, due to an irritating version of this song, I had to put my office work on hold, find this version, it sounded so good that I listened to it 3x. For that enjoyment, I was going to write a simple 3 line "Thank You" for this version but I've wrote a novel, outlining my disgust for titles that misrepresent themselves -lol. Kudos, to you sir, this has been a very relaxing experience for me. Now I must get back to watching porn.... I mean OFFICE WORK.... I must to get back to doing office work -lol......... (seriously, it's office work).

Most music today has no taste. I couldn't tell you who the biggest name is today. That's the truth. I mostly listen to Christian Praise and Worship, Country, Old Rock (like this), 80s, 90s, music from the Classical Period and Romantic Period. Nothing impresses me much about today's music. Most of today's performers have lost that creative edge and probably couldn't even tell you anything about music.

People get caught up in the craziest things. I guess these days "hate and argue" has replaced "love and peace". People don't have to "know" what they are saying, or what the lyrics are actually saying, all they have to do is "think they know", and it gives (SOME, not all) a reason to try to start something. It's sad. On a more humorous note, most of us who were there to be a part of the 60's & 70's, know the lyrics to CCR's "Bad Moon Rising", but we tend to change those lyrics to "There's a bathroom on the right", as opposed to the true lyrics "There's a bad moon on the rise". It's so wide spread, that even John Folgerty has been known to play along and sing "bathroom on the right" at his shows. If only the rest of the world could get along like that, then this Earth could be a groovy place to live. Peace..............................

FYI The "Deuce" is a slang name for circa 1932 Ford coupes equipped with V8 engines. Ford had previously used inline 4-cylinder engines, and the competition was beginning to introduce six-cylinder engines, so they needed to step their game up. They were supposed to be really powerful in their day, but I wasn't born until 64 years later so I wouldn't know the full story.

Bruce Springsteen wrote "Blinded By The Light" after most of the other songs on the Greetings album were finished and is also one of the few songs for which Springsteen wrote the words before arranging the music. The song's swiftly-paced, jumbled lyrics are stream of consciousness descriptions of a series of bizarre individuals he met while a young artist in New Jersey. Playing small venues, such as bars along the Jersey Shore, Springsteen recounts various characters from these events. He alludes to Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez, then his drummer, in the opening line "Madman drummers", as well as the "silicone sister" (bartender, possibly referring to an erotic dancer) who encourages him to play a particular, unknown song. United by the chorus: "And (s)he was blinded by the light/cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night/Blinded by the light/(S)he got down but (s)he never got tight, (s)he's gonna make it (alright) tonight", the song goes on to chronicle Springsteen's trouble to get the bar patrons, who rarely cared about or even heard the music, to get excited by his performance. The meber reference is to the religious conversion of Paul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus, but Springsteen was referring metaphorically to the music industry and wealth and fame. The lyrics of the song feature extensive use of internal rhyme rather than the more common end rhyme, in couplets such as: Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east. He says "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funnybone, that's where they expect it least." Springsteen's version has been described as folky and acoustic compared to the Earth Band's hard rock take on the song, which prominently features early electronic keyboards. The theme from the popular piano waltz "Chopsticks" can be heard prominently after the song's bridge. The chorus of the song features the commonly misunderstood lyric, "Blinded by the light, cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night." ("Deuce" refers to a '32 Ford Deuce Coupe.) Many listeners hear the word "douche" in place of "deuce." Manfred Mann's Earth Band changed this line slightly to "revved up like a deuce" (often misquoted as "wrapped up like a douche") and repeated it much more frequently in their version than Springsteen did in the original; they also omitted parts of the verses and rearranged the order of the remaining lyrics. Springsteen, in his 2005 VH1 Storytellers appearance, lightheartedly made the assertion that the sole reason that Manfred Mann's version of the song went to number one is that the altered lyric is actually "revved up like a douche". Bruce said, "The original lyric is 'cut loose like a deuce' referring to a two seat hot-rod, a little deuce coupe. Manfred Mann changed the lyric to 'revved up like a douche', which is a feminine hygienic procedure.... so, they're different." It should be noted, however, that Manfred Mann's website lists the lyric as "deuce" rather than "douche". It was once rumored that Chris Thompson's New Zealand accent may be responsible for swapping deuce for douche; however, this cannot be correct as "deuce" said with a New Zealand accent is pronounced something similar to "juice". A video of a 1976 Manfred Mann performance seems to support the "altered lyric" position. While "deuce" and "douche" would be pronounced in much the same way, in the video, the singer clearly seems to be singing "wrapped" - rather than "revved" - consistent with the "douche" lyrics listeners have heard.

Well said. All this uncalled for hatred from such young people. Crappy music is ubiquitous through all of time, and such music is often popular. Decades from now it will, undoubtedly, be similar as today. We must be wary of our arbitrary, coincidental, time of birth and attempt to judge things objectively. Hatred is easy though, so I suspect times will change but belittling will remain quite popular.
