In fact Richey James even said himself, that it's pointless pretending certain things don't exist, people hide in a bubble. They are bound by fear. That is why most humans are spiritually and emotionally undeveloped.

Wasn't this the best bit of accidental PR ever on the part of the Manics? They make an album with no singles using dark and difficult lyrics left by Richey Edwards; that could have been a difficult thing to market. (I think Nicky Wire said it could destroy them commercially). Yet somehow they managed to make it the most talked about album of the week just by choosing some unusual artwork. Incredible!

I love the fact that Loius has been reduced to "that bloke from Brookside".....I bought the album from Asda due to it being the nearest place I can get it, and have thrown away the outer sleeve so the artwork can be seen as it was meant to be.

The game of life is hard to play I'm gonna lose it anyway The losing card I'll someday lay So this is all I have to say That pseudocide is painless It brings on many changes And I can take or leave it if I please. The only way to win is cheat And lay it down before I'm beat And to another give my seat For that's the only painless feat That pseudocide is painless It brings on many changes And I can take or leave it if I please....

her work is meant to be disturbing, its extremely effective and hits the soul. but not offensive. there is a huge difference. as for the picture that is as the artist says a birthmark, but the disturbing nature is just the way she applies paint, inspiration from animal carcasses and the rest portraying people as meat, or the violence of the soul, somehow, however she manages that without explicitly painting it. the violence here is only towards paint though, its not even the right colour, for an amazing technical painter, i'm sure she could have painted wounds if she wanted, instead they are splashes of colour, and ambiguous.

"censorship will stop your excess thought" as they wrote in crucifix kiss... I think that's the supermarkets' game... I bought never mind the bollocks from asda and again (as a present for a friend) from tesco... neither were censored... i think they wanted to make it harder to find some of the best lyrical work richey did as it's too thought provoking

"I loathe courgettes, but I am not offended that they sell them" Genius. For once a sensible discussion over an insane decision by the Corporate Pigs of the Supermarket world. Deny your culture of consumption.

According to Jenny Savile herself, it's a port wine birthmark. I think she'd know, don't you? Presumably, part of her intention was to make viewers double-take, but that's not the point. Censorship is just a way for stupid people to avoid debate, and it always causes problems.

It's art it's meant to be put out and people to give their opinion on. I don't think there's anything bad about it. If you get offended don't look at it simple

p.s. If it's because 'someone' working for several major supermarket chains found it offended their personal taste, I'd like to know who this individual is. Why have they been granted such a surprising amount of influence? And why are they more offended by a Jenny Savile painting than by, for example, the way supermarkets have destroyed the livelihoods of small-time farmers in favour of cheap imports? Of course it's about money.

What about the cover for Countdown to extinction and youthanasia by megadeth? They are only covers man they work by making people think so by the amount of thinking this cover has got shows how much of a winner it actualy is. Well done the Manics

Well, admittedly, when I first saw the cover, it made me scream a bit (I didn't expect to see it, ok?) but the idea that it needs to be censored is faintly ridiculous. I mean, the people who are going to be offended by this are not likely to be in the popular music section of a supermarket, let alone looking at the cover of a Manics album...

If I'm not mistaken, copies of that were covered up in certain chains. It says everything about the corporations and institutions that are censoring - they're afraid they'll be found out for what they are by stocking products with images that could implicate them ;)

It's not even worth discussing, seriously. It just seems so dated. The supermarkets want to put a sleeve over a picture of a child with what looks like a bloodied face, which is almost glorified, or at the very least made to look fairly stylistically beautiful, through the medium of paint, so what? Is it really worthy of debate? I have no problem with it personally, but I also have no problem with it being censcored. Who cares? The album kicks arse with Richeys 'voice' back in centre stage.
