That said, James Dean Bradfield is astounding. I can't think of another musician that could have turned the Holy Bible lyrics into such musical masterpieces.

Many years ago I taped this off MTV, accidentally recording over part of a Simpsons episode (specifically the one where Jasper freezes himself). I rewatched it so many times that, to this day, I can't listen to the opening without hearing Homer's voice preceding it on the tape saying "I have frozen myself so that I may live to see the wonders of the future".

I studied political history at University because of Richey. I spent all Summer of 1997 studying The Holy Bible lyrics. One of the best songwriter ever is Richey James Edwards. working class nero.

Why are you saying this? I was 17 and loved that teenage angst you call "crap". Richey was more into his own shit than Cobain. But he created very good lyrics full of historical references

I've grown up listening to Manics since I was born (in 1994 so I never saw them at their peak but my Dad has always loved them) and I've seen them live twice in Wolverhampton in 2011 and 2013, yet every time I listen to them they get better and better. I've never known a band to command such passion and fury so articulately. They are fucking heroes.

The first verse seems to be about the development and then failure of a person, the second verse about the start and end of a romantic relationship. The Fascist chorus part also seems like a journey from start to ending in failure too.

It is kind of amazing this album had any radio singles because it is so justifiably Angry and articulate. That biz would never fly in the U.S. but the 90's were such a special time for being pissed off because the same pre-Internet people were taking notes. Manics were the Keats to Smashing Pumpkins' more digestible Dr. Seuss but the message was the same - if you feel trapped or cut off, Know Your Enemy and shine a light on their misdirection. The Ramones' Censorshit was another fine example.
