This whole thing, and I'm going through the Flikr photos right now, is one of the most amazing creative ventures I've ever seen. I remember watching a show in the early eighties where this young kid, an autistic savant, used brown paper grocery bags to build antique cars with similar incredible detail. This takes it to another level. The engine, particularly the thrust reversers, is something I can't comprehend the amount of hours you put into. I too remember doing this in architecture class but way, way simpler. Think what you could do with balsa wood! Seems like cheating now though doesn't it? Phenomenal job. Thanks for sharing it!

Hi Luca! I am closely following your work. I'm in the crowd so your creative magic is on the rise. Your work is inspiring me for some projects that I misled because I did not know what material to use. I'll try some rehearsals to see if I can get some success. Strong hug of Brazil. Cheers

Aleen's... I have the white version. Since watching your work, I've gone into my big box of new folders, cut them to fit the ink jet and have started printing out window frames and door details for use with some of the scratch-built projects. I mocked up a mansard roof with it on Sunday and it worked great. I pre-stressed the bend lines so it folder correctly. Thanks for the reply!

Oh, man, it would be so cool if you created a stop-motion video of the door opening and closing! Surprised you haven't done one here. It would only require a very slow manipulation of the doors, with you moving your hand away after each incremental movement, then edit the video to clip out your hands.
@lucaiaconistewart7 жыл бұрын
Yea, I've thought about doing that... maybe in one of my future vids!

When you finish it, please try to put it on display for a bit. I would be willing to pay money to see this in person. You should bring it to Denver, Colorado and set up a display.

+carterc82 It's my intention to have it displayed somewhere when it's done... hopefully that works out cause I want people to be able to see it in person.

+Luca Iaconi-Stewart I would pay thousands for a model at this incredible amount of detail. Although I prefer the way an A330-243 looks more than the 777-300ER.

I've shared your work with everyone. From watching you I've realized that manila folders are a great resource right under my nose. It's cheaper than Bristol Board. How do you make the cylindrical parts? And how do you make compound curves like the nose skins and the nacelle lips? How do you know how to engineer all the folds to make it all work? And lastly, adhesive are you using?
@lucaiaconistewart11 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a great and unassuming material that can be used in a variety of applications. When I need to make small cylinders and axles etc, I often will de-laminate the folder to get single-ply thickness, then coat it in glue and roll it up. As for compound curves, I deform the folder by placing it on a large eraser and rubbing it with the curved tip of a pen cap (ie half sphere) until it takes on the right shape, but even then it's not perfect. This is the glue I use: www.amazon.com/Aleene-Clear-Gel-Tacky-Glue/dp/B000BY6THS
