Karl was absolutely right about the Chinese remark. I studied Chinese in college with a professor who was originally from China. When he moved to America as a 20-year-old, he remembers genuinely being scared while looking at American children playing in a nearby park with their parents sitting on the side talking with each other. He thought "How in the world can the parents tell which child is theirs? They must take the wrong child home all the time. They all look the same!" He still thinks this way today.
