What Jinshi failed to realize was that Maomao had no real interest to be a Court Lady, and so if he wanted her to pass the test he needed to properly motivate her. Something like if she passed the test she could be eligible to study medicine in the Outer Court, or he could then arrange for her medical supplies to be brought in.

not only that but if she climbs the ladder up it gets possible for him to marry her. If she is too far at the bottom rank this is socially not acceptable. And he does not want her as a concubine - he wants her as a wife - at least that's what I take from his behaviour so far. I don't think that he wants multiple women like the emperor - he wants only Maomao since he has trust issues and she is loyal and got his trust . That's why he has imo so few attendants which is also due to his status situation.

@@whitecat1226 You're right, he doesn't realize it's love yet, but he does realize that he likes having her near him, and also realizes that the previous Master/Servant relationship they had was forcing some distance between them. As a Court Lady she might still work for him, but not as a servant. As for marriage, I don't think that's crossed his mind yet, he just knows that she treats him differently than any other woman with the exception of Ah Duo, who has now left. That she doesn't thirst for him is very appealing.

Firstly, I really want to apologize for stating this fact, but if you don't mind, the design of your sweatshirt kind of reminds me of Mima Kirigoe, the titular character of the movie Perfect Blue (1997). My, that movie was epic. I didn't forgot the day, when I watched it at half past 3 in the morning and honestly, it scared the hell out of me! Surely, that movie was ahead of its time, capturing the horrors of Idol Industry so perfectly, way before Oshi no Ko came to limelight. Secondly, between the two openings, this is perhaps the most favourite of mine. Especially, I like the sequence that starts with a withered blue rose, because each frame foreshadows the incoming events in this series. Also, this song hits differently after completing the season.

I think Jinshi wanted Maomao to become a Court Lady because if he were to eventually get married, it would have to be to a person with some status.

Nah, in this case, it was for political reasons. He was going to get her into a department that he essentially needed an inside person for information. This may be a monarchy, but administrative departments still keep secrets.

I was thinking more that he no longer wants to have quite a Master/Servant relationship with him, and really cleaning up after him and doing chores is a waste of her talents. Given his actual status, I'm not sure even making her a court lady would raise her status enough to marry him.

I think Jinshi is a bad position that the truth of him being the switched a birth and actually the son of the emperor would be a scandal. Being his "brother" means he has no real future. So he has to prove himself whatever way he can. The only thing I can't figure out is if the emperor knows the truth too. Jinshi's mother said "its all so stupid." Because there she was being kept around as the emperor's friend when she should have been wife. And their son is literally pretending to be the brother. All because they don't want to look bad and reputation crap.
