Andrew, with all due respect, this is a no go. The leafs were 12-6-4 before Zadorov was traded and they were heavily rumored to be in on him and Tanev. Since then, they are 14-11-8. When can we honestly say this team has been in the wildcard conversation in the Matthews era. It’s time to look at the bigger picture on this season, and let Treliving use it as a benchmarker to see what these core guys can do without significant roster reconstruction midseason (which we all know is not his philosophy to begin with) Not to mention, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it until it’s well understood on Tanev. He is not worth a 1st. We traded a 1st and prospects for a 29 yr old Muzzin. Somehow a 34 yr old, career injury prone Tanev is worth near the same? Give your head a bit of shake on that one because that’s just not what you spend your already depleted draft picks on unless he’s a bonafide top pairing defensemen for the foreseeable future

Sorry but you guys dont have the pieces to do both but Tanev can be had, Liljagren(1.4 mill) & your 2024 1st for 50% Tanev(2.25mill) & the Vanc 2024 4th that could turn into a 3rd. You guys should be able to fit the cap difference $825K fairly easy.

What about the Boston Bruins, Isn’t Noah Hanifin from that general area? He heard he grew up a Bruin fan and there are rumours he would want to sign this summer south of the border. Bruins would (at the very least) drive up the price to make him un-affordable to just anyone. For a comparable look at the package they paid for Hampus Lindholm before extending him. I’m sure the Bruins have similar cap issues to Toronto but regardless even if they don’t the market for Hanifin will be very competitive. It would take a sack of diamonds to get a defence pairing of both Tanev and Hanifin

The bottom six average a goal every 8.8 games that was before mondays game against the islanders. 6guys scoring that often in the bottom six has to be near the bottom of the league. The blue is terrible in the offensive department as well l agree.

yes a lack of scoring from our defense hurts for sure but dude 4 goals for domi, 6 for bertuzzi and 8 from knies just isnt good enough. gregor has 5 goals on the 4th line playing way less minutes. nobody has fitted in on the top line with matthews and marner either

Don't think Treliving would give up a draft pick for a 34 year old who can walk at the end of the season. Also the Leafs would have to make room cap wise for him. If they go after both Hanafin and Tanev the Leafs would have to give them Bertuzzi and Brodie and maybe throw in Connor Timmins to sweeten the deal. Highly unlikely to happen. They would be better to go after someone with term like Rasmus Ristolainen

Should try for Markstrom and Hanifin. Will be expensive but it would make the team much better. Not sure if this would work but send back 1st, Cowan, lyligren, Samsonov and something to make the money work

I would rather rasmus and markstrom .. since its gonna cost us a 1st and samsonov for sure ... plus cap space we need to hold them means Brodie in the mix and someone else. Maybe get some retention for the 3rd we have from the islanders.

Yesterday, scoring 5 goals is not too bad, however, giving up 4 goals is very bad. Problem is obvious, style of play advocated is offence and don't worry about defense. Getting one or two defensemen may not be the answer until you change the mindset of players to play defense. It relies on the coaching staff and the management.

Yes but its too late to fire keefe now ... not enough time to teach the team a new system. Out scoring the other team is the Shan-a-plan so 2 d just reduces the amount of goals scored by the other team ... so we can win 5-2 instead of 5-4

if I'm treliving add tanev and mangiapane your adding defensive help and adding more scoring which this team needs. mangiapane also plays with an edge as well and works hard. than address goaltending which is another huge problem with this team. woll, sammy and jones aren't good enough for a deep playoff run

Ever since they traded a first for a guy who gave them 12 games, I have been sick of those deals. Stop trading our picks and prospects. This season is a crap shoot. Trade all the U.F.A'S for whatever you can get. Focus the off season on fixing the defense. Good God 7 years of just skill got them barely passed the 1st round and got spanked vs the Panthers. Tanev is a free agent in the Summer, that's when you get him. Not for a 1st round pick.
