Thanks so much, as always. It is high time that these masterpieces of engineering were all preserved, not filled in. I should love to visit this tunnel.

I used to play in this tunnel when i was 10 years old back in the 80's. There was a rope swing nearby and we called it pit swing. Great times

The air shafts were called the pepperpots. Belongs to the scouts on Mapperly plains. Pepperpot scouts next to Arnold Lane.

Saw a few videos on this already before this popped up in my suggestions, clicked as I always like to give new (to me) Urbex and industrial heritage KZbinrs and I was not disappointed. Nice mix of live footage and historical images. The brick damage near the entrance is probably due to freeze-thaw cycles and seems to be the lining only, you certainly don't want to be hit by a falling brick but the tunnel probably isn't that close to a full collapse anytime soon. Still warrants caution though and all the mineral deposits show constant water intrusion and where you find water you find hidden erosion, you could not get me anywhere near the "crap stack" though.

the crap stack is like a cursed Elephants foot
@Tuberuser187 Жыл бұрын
@@TalladegaNight Its a fascinated and cursed thing, how it formed like that. In a way its good that so many Industrial heritage content creators have documented it, its quite a unique oddity.

@@Tuberuser187 The 'crap stack' is probably the main support holding the roof up⚠️😲🤔😳

Going to be very difficult to open it and convert it into a walkway and cycle track.

Are there any houses above this tunnel? What is above the 'crap stack'?
@exploringthepastandthepres9793 Жыл бұрын
Hi ! No houses above the tunnel that’s. Open However I think that there is a housing estate nearby the long lost western portal The crap stack is just one of the air shafts 😃
@RejonMunchausen Жыл бұрын
as much as I enjoy the tunnel videos...there is probably another version of me out there who would love someone to break down the 'crapstack' and do videos looking at the layers and what was thrown away

These tunnels could be repurpose for different use not entire sure, the ones which pose the great risk should be sealed for good some how preventing anyone from entering.

@@ghostfacescrillaNG yeah from what I can remember you have to walk down to nearby where they are doing the new developments There’s a path leading down towards the steep cutting Google will be able to explain better than me 😌 there mite be a some scrambling through trees

Air shaft number 3 will take a good 15 to 25 minutes to get to as the headroom is very low and you end up crawling for most of it. Its possible to get past airshaft 3 too but its very risky and just another long crawl to the buried end of the tunnel . I would not recommend it.
@exploringthepastandthepres9793 Жыл бұрын
I thought about it ! But I agree Somone has claimed that they have crawled to the western portal Hard to believe
