Im very confident and happy that in my country (Portugal) the big 3 Porto Benfica and Sporting will never go for Minimalism logos, historic logos are there for a reason they tell the story of the club and sometimes the city

Coat of arms style logos are a thing of the past. Now everything has to be distinguishable not just to fans but the common folks. And nobody has time to admire drawings for 10 hours now. Regal crests littered with details aren't gonna cut it.

I think West Ham’s new logo came around the same time they moved from the Boleyn ground to the new London stadium. They took out the iconic castle design in the old badge to modernize the look with just the two hammers left. I get it, but I still miss that older design and the ground itself 🥺

Fiorentina has historically had minimalist logos. So it is not something we find weird. It still has the Fleur-de-lis which is the most important part of the logo. It's honestly not anything as bad as Inter's or Juve's

Sparta Prague did a pretty good job rebranding their crest about a year ago. There was a hint of minimalism but they kept the key elements and it sets a nice example for the other clubs.

This was a very common trend in the 70s too so this is actually nothing new. Look at Romas old Wolf crest or Juventus zebra crest for example. The crests will probably look radically different 10-20 years from now when trends change.

The new badge is nice, has the city's colours and the 6 pointed star, in the shape of the old badge. It would've been perfect if the designers had given a little more freedom to the shape to resemble a Fire Department's again, even if just a little. But definitely a huge improvement on whatever the hell that last one was

1) The Fiorentina redesign just sucked. I liked the approach from last year to take an older logo for the jersey, but the new badge is just horrible and soulless. 2) I don't dislike the new MLS badge, it makes it more clean and it is nice for the jerseys cuz the logo can adapt each teams color combos. 3) And thanks for the Jazz rebrand, I didn't notice it at all.

The only one I might disagree is Central Valley Fuego. The crest is actually pretty well designed if you look into the symbolism of it. Even down to the shape of the crest being a spade to represent the fertility and farming of the Central Valley.

As a aspiring graphic designer, I want to blame this to people who are just in internet to hate logos that are not pure in their eyes. In short, the effing purist. The logos that we see today are just (in Gordon Ramsay's voice) BLAND. I wish some clubs will gonna do the Manchester City approach, make a classic logo modern, not also just slapping an old logo to be the new logo (ehem NHL). People want to see better, but not this.

Aston Villa are going to have a re-brand. To be honest our current badge is poor which is unpopular amongst the fan base. I don't like the yellow lion on a blue background, it's a smudge! My avatar is a concept design by a fan which I would like the club to have as the new badge. A claret lion contrasts well with the blue background. It's also a circle design which many Villa fans want as our old circle badge is considered to be our best. It also coincided with a successful period in our history which included our greatest achievement. The avatar design is based on Eintracht Frankfurt's style which I think is an awesome badge. 👌 BTW Norwich City have also had a re-brand and have minimilised their badge too.

I get the overall point, but I take issue with the take on the Chicago Fire new badge, as a local to the area. The colors and star are from the Chicago city flag, and the design went back to being reminiscent of the Chicago Fire Department logo without it being too similar to the actual one used by the Chicago Fire Department. The blue is pretty bright, but when printed it'll be pretty distinct from the white. I also admittedly prefer the newer Mexico, Nicaragua, and Bristol City badges, and I kinda think the newer Fresno Fuego one is on the right track, but my opinion on those doesn't mean as much as it does to their supporters. That being said, I agree with the points on pretty much all the other badges, when minimalism works, it works exceptionally well, but when it doesn't, it's clipart bullshit. The first badge was already extremely minimalist as it is. I think a lot of them are being redesigned to fit a 1:1 ratio, which is the type of design that best fits social media profiles, app icons, etc.

I quite like logos and badges that are minimalistic or tend towards minimalisme, like Nashville, the MLS, Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, but i do agree that it should not be the defult. Alot of badges aren't improved by a minimalist makeover, and to often it seems clubs just use a minimalistic badge, because it's a minimalistic badge. Moreover they seemingly then use the first design they came up with. Atleast i hope so because I would not like to imagine what the other proposed idears would look like if that new Fiontina, San Marino, Mexico, or Cercle Brugge was the best they could come up with.

There's just something charming about the Columbus Crew's original logo. These aren't just men in hard hats. These are a group of Ohioans who represent the working class of Columbus. They are going to work hard to win the MLS. It showed strong identity. And then they went for a simple but boring badge you'd see in an unlicensed football game. They might as well changed their name to the Columbus Yellow Jackets since the badge looks so bland.

As an Inter fan I like the new logo and I understand why they did it. I've always believed that a kid should be able to draw your logo. I've been drawing the Chicago Bulls logo since I was ten years old. It is simple yet iconic. The new Inter logo pretty much does the same thing. Football is evoloving and so must we. No excuse for the Juventus logo looking like a toilet though.

It’s essentially all to do with the online marketing and it being easier making things for online marketing. Similar thing happened in the 1970’s when badges were regularly making their way onto shirts. Many of them badges only lasted around 2-3 years

Ok as someone from a graphic and UX design background i can see why theres this big change with crests In a practical sense think about the instances when you see a clubs crest as a fan - on a jersey, on the club's social media display picture, on their merch. In all those instances, the display size of the logo is small, small enough that you probably can't even admire the intricate details of the crest. In these situations, super complex ones like old of coat of arms one can actually confuse and make a logo less recognisable Another reason why this is happening is the increase commercialisation and globalisation of these football clubs. By creating a more minimalist logo that can be easily understood by many outside of the "in-group" of a the club's town, they attract more fans abroad and make merchandising easier. I personally hate super complex coat of arms crests that have clearly never been changed since the early 1950s, they look terrible on everything. Man city, brentford do a good job at ensuring simplicity and some semblance of history as well.

Well theres another country and league that minimalized their logo for marketing. Australia and its domestic league did so a few year back now. For the national team badge, it went from our coat of arms to the exact same logo as the A-League with a different colour to it. While for the league it started off with an orange ball looking like it was coming at you to just 3 orange lines to make a ball. Then just last year they changed it again to a rhombus and circle to look like a half assed A. Thats it. Even then my own club the Brisbane Roar after our last championship season thought it was a great idea to change our logo from a lion head with a lot of detailing to just an orange crest with a white lion wrapped by a cloth with the club name on it. It felt so bland at the time but its grown on me since
