The malankara Sabha is rooted from Syriac upbringing. Therefore no one has the right within malankara church to claim a suriyani song is theirs. In fact it comes from Syriac Orthodox Church. And prior to divisions in the malankara Sabha we were all under the umbrella called St Thomas Christians. No church denies that st Thomas is the apostle who brought the faith to us.. Differences exist in the way of worship..I'm a marthomite and I'm proud of the reformation and my faith and practice. But at the same time I thank God for the orthodox and Jacobite churches who still follow a more orthodox way of worship so that some things can be learnt from them I.e suriyani songs, tones of chant etc. I think it's high time that we respect the differences in practices but unite together in our faith in Christ.

I agree with you, as we all are brothers and sisters in Christ. However, flirting with denominations that are liberal in teachings (Anglicans) can pose a dangerous threat to the faith & teachings. I don't agree with the reformation doctrine, however, I stand with you in regards to unity in Christ, but at the same time, it should be exercised in spirit and in truth, not based on world politics under the guise of things like "feminism" and "equality", just keep that in mind.

John Thomas Yes I agree we should unite as One for we are ONE in Christ, however, certain teachings cannot be accepted. In the Anglican Communion (which Marthoma is part of), they have female "priesthood" and gay & lesbian clergy, very liberal in their teachings. Christ was not of this world and neither are we, so the Church should not accept worldly (liberal) teachings such as these! Marthoma Church does not have female priesthood, but a lot of people are supporting this. We must remain Orthodox in our faith, uncompromising to worldy beliefs and ideologies. I pray Marthoma Church will reunite to the Syriac Orthodox faith.

Merlin Benny Well the Orthodox Church is the apostolic Church meaning our bishops are successors of Christ’s apostles. St. Thomas appointed the Pakalomattom family, that archdeacon was elevated to bishop (Marthoma 1).He passed down the successorship to our Bava. There is no other successor of St. Thomas in India.

This will help the new generation in Mar Thoma church about the tradition they share with Syriac churches and the beautiful hymns they have or had..Its easy to throw away our traditions, but after generations its difficult to get it back for future generations. So in that mean, I feel Mar Thoma church still tries to preserve the beauty of Old hymns, rather than abandon them and searching for new ways..

The question is not if the Marthoma Church was started in 1876 or the Malankara Orthodox Church established a Catholicate in 1912. The real question is that of the faith. We are in Malankara (India) Christians holding on to the Oriental Orthodox faith. In 1876, the faith was altered or reformed under the influence of protestant missionaries. If the Marthoma Church can shed all traits of protestant influence and return to its true Syriac Orthodox heritage, it will be a huge step.

In personal prayer and prayer meetings,Catholics can pray in any style they want:they can shout like a Baptist, scream like a Pentecostal, raise hands like a non-denominational and hum like an Orthodox;the key is to remain in the Church in faith and truth, not deviate from the Fathers, respect saints asking their intercession, pray the Qurbono faithfully, pray for the dead in charity, read the Bible with the wisdom of Church not individualized and independently, love the Liturgy and praise the Lord.

We have full Bible. 4) Traditions - none of our Holy Traditions are unBiblical. 5) Financial - some people are getting power and money. The true reason for separation.

We didn't change our faith and protestantize like you Marthomas. So we left the Syriac/Malankara lawsuit game - we still love both Syriac and Malankara Orthodox, as our Catholicos and Pope have repeated numerous times. We pray for full unity for our Apostolic Churches. Marthomas on the other hand retain a false version of our common Qurbono but teach evangelical doctrine - corrupting and perverting the Faith, as Mor Paulos Sleeho warned against!

When a group of Christians were united, then separated due to differences, politics, geography, intrigue, etc. Then discuss and come to a common understanding, accepting each other as true and of the same faith, forgiving past sins to be One, Holy, Apostolic, and Catholic - that's reunion. The Orthodox and Jacobites had that for 20 years before their 2nd schism. You have some sort of union with the protestant Anglicans, and their communion. Opportunism is the nickname of the Malayali.

The Church from the time of Christ is One. Culture and local customs varied. When the first Councils met, they didn't argue over culture, they agreed upon the Faith. The Apostles when they went to Rome, Antioch, Spain, Africa, India, etc.. they assimilated the local culture and Christianized it. Yet, all these communities were One in Faith. Reunion means going back to that Union, as it should be. Malankara Re-union, was not only uniting to Rome, but all the Eastern Catholics, including Malabar.

Therefore, it is proper to accord to them a fervent and reverent adoration, not, however, the veritable worship which, according to our faith, belongs to the Divine Being alone - for the honor accorded to the image passes over to its prototype, and whoever adores the image adores in it the reality of what is there represented."

@maneshzac Praying for departed souls is biblical dear friend; as you can see in 2 Timothy 1: 18, St.Paul the apostle is praying for his departed friend Onesiphorus saying, "The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day." Miracles at the relics of Saints is also biblical as you can see in 2 Kings 13:21 a dead man coming back to life, when he came into contact with the bones (relics) of Prophet Elisha.

Remember the Canon Cross? It was Koonan Cross. And it had to do with Portuguese oppression over our Church, we are free with our own bishops and Traditions intact, no need to keep a division based on a mistake, corrected from 500 yrs ago.

We love our Latin brothers and sisters, our Syro-Malabar brothers and sisters, our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, etc.. our Church is One, Holy, Catholic (complete, universal) and Apostolic. We practice our faith as our Orthodox brothers and sisters in the Syriac and Malankara Orthodox Churches, as our holy fathers taught us. We are not Latin because we were not handed the Latin faith and traditions. Can you say your church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic?

Except Marthoma group have never used that song. They prefer modern Malayalam songs or translated Anglican hymns.

Where did Joseph Marthoma earn his doctorate? Which school? Don't mention honorary degrees, earned PhD or DMin? My allegation has to do with this, the main speaker for the event is Joseph Marthoma, who received another honorary PhD from the man being commemorated here: youtu(dot)be/psKz075Y_2E As I said earlier, the exCatholic bishop was removed for his cooperation, what was Joseph Marthoma's punishment?

When the Marthoma clergy and bishop is in MISC, do they also sing the "forbidden songs" and "expunged texts"? Or do they sit quietly while others pray? Do they refuse to concelebrate unless these changes are made?

You keep referring to the 15 Lent, what exactly are you Lenting for? This kramam is not available anywhere in public domain, please show me a link or a pdf.Your question above about the Malankara and Malabar Churches shows you understand the Catholic Church less than the Bible..The Catholic Church is a communion of 23 Churches,Rome is one, who's head Bishop is Pope of the Entire Communion. They are not all Roman Churches. Just like your church didn't take the Church of England prayer book.why not?

How many metropolitans of Marthoma church allowed parishes to keep practices the way they were? If I were to convince a parish in Thiruvalla that they should return to using the full Qurbono, and pray the kuklion and thubdens as originally written; would Marthoma be broadminded enough not to trouble them?

That link doesn't work, but why dont' you look up the Canons on Simony according to the Councils of the Church, then ask why Joseph Marthoma is running around calling himself "Doctor" based on a few honorary degrees and some gained through underhanded alliances with pentecostal leaders (see Rajendra Lal and SHIATS). Canons say automatic excommunication, will anyone let the bishop know?

Soon? Us Malankara Syrian Catholics already sing this. By the way, did you know this about Moran Mor Aphrem: "Patriarch Mor Ignatios Aphrem I Barsoum was born on June 15, 1887, in Mosul, Iraq. He received his early education in a private Dominican school, studying French and Turkish as well as religious literature and history; later he learned Arabic under the training of Muslim scholars." - sor.cua.edu/Personage/PAphrem1/ HH was educated by Catholics,in theology as well as language, culture.
