Sometimes DITL-types of videos can be too much, this is a PERFECT format, IMO!!! It breaks everything up into digestible little bits and keeps all the thoughts fresh. I hope you do more like this. ❤

Be very vigilant with cleaning the humming bird feeders. Because of the sugar you will also get mold/mildew😅😅 growing within just a few days. If the drink the water that has been contaminated by mold/mildew it will actually kill the humming birds. The hotter it is outside you might have to clean them everyday. Or maybe rotate them. Put 2 out and the next day take those other feeders in, and then clean them for tomorrow.

I’m loving the apron content! I’m currently reading a book called “Perfection Salad” about the scientific cooking movement of the late 1800s thru to the 1950s. It definitely puts all that mayonnaise into context :) Basically, they only cared how food looked, not how it tasted, lol.

My mom always made a green jello salad . I’m the only child out of 4 that liked it. It’s unprepared green jello with cottage cheese, crushed pineapple drained, cool whip, marshmallows and pecans. I loved it! I don’t remember her making any other 50’s “salad”. I enjoyed watching you try out the recipes. You’re much braver than I am.

Ambrosia is good with whipped cream and either sour cream or yogurt and powdered sugar, I use canned mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries cut up in 1/2s or 1/4ths. and canned pineapple chunks coconut and marshmallows. Thats the recipe I always use and so did my mother in the 1960s. She is 90 now so she made the salad when it was popular. I made it when everyone came to my house for holidays but everyone is grown and off doing their own thing now. Your frozen salad? Is has similar ingredients to my Ambrosia salad. Love the deer so sweet. It is fun to see and hear the kids and your husband in the background also I like to hear your hubby's comments regarding the old/new dishes that you make. (old recipes that are new to your family) Take care, I like your mixed content.

I am a child of the 50s (now 72) and as nostalgic as the 50s are now, I remember how hard my mom worked. As to replacing your steps or adding a porch, I do hope you go for the porch. Mayonaise popsicles! ❤ 😂 I think the 1950s was a time of proprietorship… jello took aim at the American housewives by offering whatever they could find for consumption and along w that is the fortune made w corporate ingredients and supplies albeit mayo, sugar, canned goods, pans, molds, liquids, etc… it must have been such an exciting time for homemakers! Especially when you got a printed booklet w your jello mold! ❤ great video Kristina! Hope you get some quiet time! Maybe w the feathered friends in the sunshine ☀️… you deserve it! ❤

Enjoyed seeing the 1950's salads but what was the 1950's house wife thinking when it came to mayo??? Today we have fluff, cool whip and we always had cream cheese! Funny, I was born on 1958 and thank God my mother never made them!! Lol! Your porch, flowers and patio looked so nice when all done. Yes, those types of videos mixed with recipes are great. Really enjoyed this content! LOVE the red refrigerator and the 1950's vibes of your kitchy kitchen! I saw the cutest fabrics on Etsy for curtains! Happy Summer! For my graduation supper my mum made all these “50’s” jello salads because it was my grandmother’s favourite. Never mind I can’t stand them and was so disappointed. My special meal was memorable all right. I suppose if it had been my favourites I wouldn’t have remembered. It’s just so wrong.

Love the video format! So congealed salads are my favorite! My Granny made an orange salad that was my absolute favorite! Orange jello, crushed pineapple, Mandarin oranges, cottage cheese, cool whip, sour cream, and mini marshmallows. 🤤 Also her and my great grandmother made Banana Croquettes which were ripe bananas rolled in a mixture of salad dressing (similar to miracle whip), sugar, and apple cider vinegar, then rolled in chopped peanuts. It's a Kentucky thing, mainly a central KY thing. I loved them so much as a kid (elder millennial here)! I'm not scared of weird salads! 😂

Always love that you post a cooking themed video. My mom always makes Ambrosia salad with sweetened condensed milk. She also adds walnuts or pecans which adds a nice crunch and cuts through some of the sweetness. If you have not tried it that way, it's worth a try. It's delicious.

My mother makes something similar to Ambrosia salad, but it uses sour cream instead of mayonnaise. I think she calls it five cup salad- one cup each of mandarin oranges, pinapple chunks, marshmallows, coconut and sour cream. She also adds a few toasted nuts for crunch. It's amazing! I think Ambrosia salad would have been good with just sour cream as the dressing.

I don't remember these types of salads being present at our meals. I do remember "Watergate Salad" being very popular at church functions and there was a bowl every time. Is t it so true that in our day to day comings and goings some spaces get neglected. We leave something out because we're going to use it soon, or something pulls us away and we just don't get back to it. I have a back patio in need of some straightening up, as well as a guest room that gets clogged with little things. Thanks for the motivation. 😊

Really loved this video. I like watching you just pottering about, doing chores. It’s peaceful and reminds me of home. In the fifties and sixties, I remember when those salads were first introduced and I loved them. In the UK here, I think we weren’t used to salads because all veg was generally cooked, and so these very sweet, fruity salads may have appealed to the more traditional palate. If I remember correctly, I think we would have cold meat and green salads, etc. and with one of those sweet mayonnaise style fruity salads as a side dish. They do go very well with cold meats on a buffet table. I don’t remember eating them as a dessert though, so this was new to me! One salad I particularly liked was a fluted ring mould, like you showed the final salad in. It was a blackcurrant jelly (in UK, that means a set gelatine dessert made up from a Chivers packet!) and set into the mould was lots of small cubes of cooked beetroot. The beetroot could be from a jar, but if you only had plain cooked beets, then add vinegar to the water for making the jello. (Is that the American word for set gelatin?) It turns out onto a plate, a glorious deep wine colour with small purple cubes set in it. And we used to take it to a pot luck lunch or serve it at a buffet, or with barbeque stuff. Children loved it! Happy days, thanks Kristina.
