Boom here it is, the one video you need to learn how to play outside. Damn thanks!
@joshsinclair17968 ай бұрын
You said it
@pinecone4218 ай бұрын
I agree !! However, "playing out" usually refers to play outside the key. The theoretical tool in this video would be better described as superimposition. This is just an arbitrary use of language but I figured it's worth adding.

This touches on so many jazz links it blows my mind how simple and clearly you explained it without shredding super fast that it seems impossible to grasp like so many other teachers do without regard to their audience Thank you.❤

I don't really know what to call this video... Great? Awesome? Amazing? Spectacular? Marvelous? Dang! Fantastic video man! Loved it. Very clearly explained and systematic. I subscribed and will recommend. I am an advanced harmony teacher and loved your approach. I also laughed very loudly watching the video edits where the background is stressful for the tension chords and relaxing for the resolution chords, as I use the same concept when explaining to my students. Have a great day, you good sir.

I learned Altered scale by seeing it as two parrallel m7b5 arpeggios, so A7 Altered is Am7b5 + Gm7b5. This lesson really helped me with practicing how to actually USE and resolve the altered. thanks
@johnmcminn9455Күн бұрын
Interesting. The shapes are very similar. The Ami7b5 would be the vi mode of C Melodic Minor. The G min 7b5 , would be A altered . Mike Stern has a book from 2020 alt scale Soloing, which was cool in the sense of, he was stressing the importance of relating the intervals to the actual root of the altered scale to emphasize the intervals that are the character of the altered sound . We know half the notes are in and half of them are out of the original key . Mike would then have tab showing the scale played in 3ed 4th 5ths and 6th intervals as an exercise to slow down and get to know the interval relation better . That was a good book. Being as the only info I have heard Mike say about Soloing is " it's just dorian/ lydian, man"

Man great video. I have really good fretboard knowledge and technique but this was like instant "sound jazzier" in a way I've never been able to access. Another way to think of it would be to play altered scales/dominant ideas on the 5, b7, 2nd, and 4th of the tonic, resolving each to the diatonic 7th chord a 5th below in the tonic Dorian.
