The pull on Marbles knives is one of the things I love. As I get older, more arthritic, my nails more brittle, I look for that now.

Great, thanks for showing this one, I have been looking at the Stag bone version with a view to buying it. I bought a Utica Kutmaster Pigman Hog Buster (long silly name!) with yellow composite handles earlier this year, it has a liner lock on the skinner blade and all steel liners, it was around the $20 mark and is a good chunky worker. These large trappers with this type of frame appeal to me a lot more than the usual skinny trapper frame that most people call a trapper.

Hello. I prefer of course the GEC but for the price i would have no problem with the Marbles. All the best.

Jumbo trappers are my favorite pattern. I do own both of these in the video, but I also own 10 or more of the gec's, and i have 3 or 4 camillus made remington bullet trappers. I also have a queen mountain man trapper, a test production version in red bone, and a colonel coon lockback version. I'm always looking for more brands that make them, but it isn't the most common pattern.

I am sticking my nose in today to mention that I just bought 2 out of stock RR's and just might be lucky that I found them new for less than double the original price. An RR1202 Toad Sticker that in my community was called a Saturday night special since they so neatly fit in a sock. Also an RR204, how could I possibly ignore a knife called the French Tickler, which reminds me of Vincent Price announcing that the trembling badass is loose in your theatre
@kevinbufton71184 жыл бұрын
Hi Tobias, yes, difficult to compare the two knifes, but what a good value knife to put in your pocket when you are out and about doing manual work and may need a robust knife. Again very informative best wishes (KB Wales UK)

Wow that’s a beautiful trapper. I don’t claim to be an expert on trappers or know much other than I have carried a few before and am quiet fond of them. I think I need to get one of those Marbles trappers though it is quiet a beauty, I personally own two trappers an older Case trapper and what seems to be a very old Ka Bar trapper because Ka Bar doesn’t seem to make traditional style knives anymore. Both were gifted to me by my grandfather who got me into collecting knives.

They’re both lovely knives, but I love the flush fit tangs. TEW do them on their Barlows. I know it really doesn’t matter, but it’s the little things that matter! I really love these larger knives!

I have the Large Marbles D2 Tapper and it's a great knife. I have the GEC #23 Pioneer Trapper in Woodland Micarta. The pull on the main is a 9 and the spay is a 7/8 on mine. I don't think they are that close the spay on the D2 is upswept and the blades are not as tall. I also picked up a #97 Beaver Tail looks great.

I’m not much of a trapper guy, but I picked up the Marbles cattleman in stag. it’s awesome, as good as any Rough Ryders in my collection. I am pretty much a budget knife guy but love the looks of GEC knives

That was interesting. Could definitely see the difference in quality between a GEC and a Marbles. The biggest difference being price. If Marbles sold for that they might be able to pay more attention to quality. Both looked good in their own right. Heavy items from the slides.
@peterpuleo29044 жыл бұрын
Your examinations teach neophytes how to see nuanced distinctions between knives that are superficially the same in quality. Well done. Marbles and R/R and others make knives widely available to enthusiasts on a budget. GEC, Case, and others appeal to those who are able and willing to spend more freely. Do you have any auto or flipper knives worthy of review in your collection?
@KnifeChatswithTobias4 жыл бұрын
Not much of Modern Folder Guy. I have a playlist but I'll be honest, most of these a re under $10 budget "Tactical" knives commonly thought of as Gas Station knives.
@peterpuleo29044 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias I just thought as a leading enthusiast you would be tempted to get a few modestly priced quality flippers (need not be "tactical") to "round out" your collection. I will check your plalylist. Thanks Tobias.

@@peterpuleo2904, one of these days I might pick up a Kershaw Leek (and actually keep it!) I like the Leek and have bought it several times but I always end up giving it away. I know as a knife Enthusiast I'm supposed to want a Bug out and a Para2 but I've held them and fooled aroudn with them and they just didn't do anything for me. Maybe some time a RAT-1 As it is. I'm on the fence about getting the boys knife. Sad to say, but I'm more interested in the art work on the tube than the knife! It's a cool knife; don't get me wrong. It's just I've got a few other ones that are really solid and were a lot less expensive.

i still have trouble justifying the price tag of a GEC. as you mention, while it's pointless to try to compare the workmanship, materials, and fit and finish between the two, is it enough to justify the cost difference? to me as a consumer, and only a casual admirer of traditionals, a GEC or even case, while 5 or 7 times the price is not 5 or 7 TIMES better...
@WilliamsKnifeLife4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the GEC got offended touching covers with the Marbles? Maybe they like each other. Upper class hob nobbing with the peasants.
@KnifeChatswithTobias4 жыл бұрын
LOL. If the GEC got offended it then I'd refer it to Kipling's poem , "IF" -- which is pretty much my mantra for life. Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowances for their doubting to; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting Or being lied about, don't deal in lies Or being hated don't give away to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream -- And not make dreams your master; If you can think -- And not make thoughts your aims, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools Or watch the things you gave your life to , broken, And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the will to say to them "hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings -- nor lose the common touch If neither foes or friends can hurt you If all men count with you but none too much If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it And -Which is more- you'll be a Man, my son!

I have a couple of others but really fell in love with Marbles over all stainless. First a MR551 that looks like what my girlfriend carried when she foredeck crewed an ocean racer. She wore it like a religious pendant And now she is gone. Their MR 409 Hawkbill , again quality that will hold up. If they invent a new mousetrap with blades and all stailess, I will buy it.
