My every day pocket knife is a Marbles LG Trapper tortoise (Acrylic) handles and it's given me great service imo Marbles is the best bang for the buck!!

Mr. Tolly (AKA: fatmantolly) We don't don't see many marble's designs over here, but I'd try a small trapper of theirs if I saw one.

very nice knife and great presentation, when it comes to traditional slipjoints I like them a bit smaller but they are still one of my favorite type of knives

EDC Gunner It's way to big for an EDC blade, but it would be a good worker :-)

Big budget blade i like your style jim. I have only had marbles in fixed blades

Gowersghost I'd like to try a marbles fixed-blade, to see how it compares the the RR drop-point hunter that rather impressed me :-)

i went for the three blade marbles trapper mr106, clip point, spay blade and filleting. so you have general purpose, small mammal and fish all in one knife if they made a three blade version of the mr117 that would be great i have really good pins on mine so i think you got a one off, well lets hope so great vid as always
@Grummash9 жыл бұрын
John James If you're into small game the 3-blade would be ideal... it's just hard to judge a budget brand on just one knife. I've had some issues with Rough Rider but overall I think they are brilliant.

i have 9 of their knives at min all as good as a case in finish, i may have been lucky but i have been well impressed up to now.

There's no comment about the pins on the 3 reviews on HH so, as you say, it could be that you have a Friday Afternoon knife. Too big for my EDC though :)

MisterG That's the tricky thing with budget blades... half of me wants to cut them some slack based on the low price, but half of me thinks "Victorinox and Opinel don't send out flawed blades in that price bracket"

Very nice looking .. sucks about the pins .. i can see me making a peening tool after that. I bought one Marbles knife .. a small fixed blade .. theres no review I couldnt find anything good to say about it. Take care !!
@Grummash9 жыл бұрын
TimBlankJ haha - if you couldn't find one good thing to say about it... that's why you should have done a review :-) I am sure I have a nail punch with a concave tip that could be just the thing to put a dome shape on those pins...

I agree the pouch isn't necessary. That money could have been better spent. I have a very similar trapper. I like it but carry it infrequently due to its size.

ima4ster I think the verdict has to be... useful, but not indispensable.

I could see those scales getting chipped up because they go all the way to the butt instead of having a brass butt
@stevelewis17212 жыл бұрын
I bought one today. The fit of the scales is perfect but the pins are as you describe. Blade centering is perfect. I'm in Florida, USA and paid $20.00 including a nice box and the same pouch you show. If you massaged the pins, what did you do? I'm thinking to peen them with a small drift pin. Altogether, I'm pleased. Thanks.

Not a bad knife for the price it is a little thick it would take a some getting use to it but not bad
@Grummash9 жыл бұрын
renemanjr123 It's too chunky and heavy for an EDC blade, but it would make a great toolbox knife

It's a quite a nice looking knife isn't it ? I have several Marbles slipjoints, and I think the pins standing proud is pretty standard for ones that have jigged bone scales. They do on mine as well. Although to be fair, it does seem that they've made the effort to round them off a bit on my examples. On their knives with smooth bone scales however, there's no problem. They come nice and flush. Although again, that's just going by mine.
@Grummash9 жыл бұрын
zednotzee7 When the bone is heavily jigged (Ooh errr....) as it is on this knifeI can understand the pins standing proud to a degree, but I would still think the edges should be smoothed off. This could have been a great budget knife :-(
@lamprosmellis56349 жыл бұрын
Very good video Jim. If you ignore the weight is a good fella,,,maybe is good as a hunting knife,,the secondary blade have the right shape for skining,and have two blades if one fails the duty. Is the constraction enough strong for heavy duties?
@Grummash9 жыл бұрын
lampros mellis Hello Iampros - it would be a great hunting knife, and the weight would not be a problem if it was carried in a belt pouch. The construction does seem strong enough for heavy work, but i have not tested that yet.

The ones I have seen and fixed for friends over here are quite rubbish. Worst than a 5 dollar gas station special. You actually probably got one of the better ones. At least from the ones I have seen. Which is probably around ten or so of them. Only the farm hands seem to like em around here. :-)
