We should want to send our children to HBCUs anyway. I grew up in Baton rouge, LA and never thought about going to any school outside of the HBCU system. The only way they ( the HBCUs and us) will survive is if we stop going outside of our own system.

Every band that comes to Chapel Hill is placed in the same seating arrangement. We’ve had Florida State, NC A&T, to Ohio in the same seating. It’s not to disrespect anyone, it’s just we’re the athletic department seats visiting bands. Florida State had some of their band in the visitor’s seating they had so many folks in the stands. The stadium music and all the advertisements are pretty much all scheduled. If you want the advertising money that’s how it works. They pack in the advertising. As a fan and alum, and former MTH member, you know certain music will also played a certain times during the game. The’ll play music over us. It has happened! We have had bands come and they did not get to play at halftime. GT and NC State comes to mind. In the opposite, we have had 5th quarter on occasion. UNC was happy to have the FAMU Marching 100 in the stadium. Our fans love it. The Marching Tar Heels love it. Today was a win for all involved!

Makes sense please understand that HBCUs take band VERY seriously that’s why you see so many comments about the seating and the perceived disrespect but it was a misunderstanding. When HBCUs battle each other there’s a much higher focus on the bands in the stands then on the stands its just something we’re not used to just yet, I’m glad you commented that message.

I got the same feeling from lets go as the time I entered the enslaved holding cells on the river bank in Savanah or when my feet first touched the shores of Africa and sitting in the colored only section bus from Montgomery ( Ford Museum) An overwhelming sense of pride, resilience and strength. The chant is a true testament battle cry to thrive on the road is paved brick by brick on the backs of our ancestors hands stretched to protect and guide us.

I know what you mean, i understand its playing advertisements and other videos, but i even hate it when they do it at Auburn, Troy or any of the others. Those students in the band at UNC, FAMU, Auburn, Troy etc work hard to perform. I wish they were given the opportunity to be heard more, because they do put in a lot to get ready for a game.

Having been in the band many years ago, I understand they put in a lot of work learning music and routines, so it does come across as if they dont care to hear either band.
