Wasn't much of a "crash" just a snout point dug into the ground crossing a low spot or ditch in the field... the machine kept going the snout stopped, so something had to give LOL:) Deere doesn't sell (or at least stock) those metal snouts anymore so the replacement was plastic... Later! OL J R :)

Another great video, and more great results came with it! It's nice to see everyone playing a role, even nephew Jack. We were all once young like he is. The excitement just doesn't wear off of some of us, despite our age and experience. Mr. Tucker seems to be as excited as any of us, and he's doing a lot of things that some might not expect of an agronomist, but mutual loyalty builds and strengthens relationships. Thanks for the videos!

You're not kidding. I started on an F-20, then an H and a TO-20, then a MF35 Deluxe and a MF65. Didn't have a cab until I got a garden tractor with one ! Closest thing to heated was a heat houser on the MF65. Uncle had a 95 for those times you needed "big power"...

@@Blazer02LS It's eye-opening how the "big power" tractors of not so long ago don't seem nearly as "big" nowadays compared to what's available on the market (for the right price, of course). I remember Ryan's old videos featuring the 4440 pulling their old chisel plow, disk, and chopper. Now, it's close to a model number that they would use for daily chores. Kuster Farms, like many others, is evolving in quite a few ways, even if the pace isn't all that fast. Imagine where or how they'll be in 5 to 10 years.

How wide would the 8235 be if you spaced the duals to run down between the rows of corn and beans?
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 4 жыл бұрын
On 30 inch rows, you'd straddle 2 rows with the inside duals (30X2=60 inches, or 5 feet) and the outer duals would straddle another row on each side between the duals (so another 5 feet total) so, center to center of the outer duals would be 10 feet. Not sure how wide the tires are, but you could easily add another 2 feet to that just to be safe, and say about 12 feet wide overall for 30 inch rows. Down south here most farmers are still on 40 inch rows, so the straddle duals (spaced out to straddle the rows and run in the middles) are much wider... the inner duals are spaced at 80 inches, and the outers are 40 inches on either side of that, so that's 160 inches center-to-center of the outside duals plus half the width of the tire itself on either side, so add another 2 feet total, 160/12=13.33 feet +2 feet for the tire width= over 15 feet wide! Most all tractors here that have duals are straddle duals because we farm on raised beds... Later! OL J R :)

How much does it cost to dry grain per bushel for percentage point of moisture?
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 4 жыл бұрын
It varies from place to place and over time... We had corn coming out of the field at the BIL's in Indiana right at 30% moisture and the old man called the elevator and it was gonna be 30 cents of dock per bushel in drying charges. So that's about 2 cents per point of moisture above 15% I guess you could say... Needless to say he decided to go on and spend about $5,000 bucks on a new fan and dryer for the bin, since the old one was shot since it's nearly 40 years old... Even with propane at over $1 per gallon (like $1.10-1.20 IIRC) it still cost about 20% as much to dry the corn in the bin then haul it to town that to haul it straight to the elevator out of the field and eat the drying charges in town... I had some over 90,000 and some down around 82,000 or so, and the BIL was like "add more" he wants it just under 88,000. The nephew probably had some well over 90,000 plus loads I'm sure when he heaped it to the bows... some guy last year was loading his truck til he couldn't hardly roll the tarp last year or year before and ended up busting both motor mounts and wringing out a driveshaft on the semi LOL:) Takes all kinds I guess... I was used to loading them up much as you could because they didn't have big boxes, so when I started loading the brother-in-law's tandems with 600 bushel boxes, he fussed at me a lot til I learned how he wanted it loaded... Then had to learn again when he bought a semi... He showed me a trick for when it's piled up over the bows and the tarp would be to hard to roll... Would yalls combine handle an eight row header?
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 4 жыл бұрын
It could but slower ground speed so what's the point?? You can crawl with a wide head or fly with a narrow head the throughput per hour is the same if the machine is running at full capacity... Everybody is in love with wide heads which is fine for BIG combines running in huge rectangular fields, but for smaller combines in smaller more irregular shaped contoured or curved fields is a PITA... Wider heads cost a LOT more money to buy and maintain; a narrow head operating at a faster ground speed can cover the same ground cheaper... wider costs, speed is "free"... As long as the machine is running "at capacity" (it can only process SO MUCH MATERIAL in a given amount of time without excess losses anyway, which is the definition of "machine capacity") it really doesn't matter what the header width is, so long as you're not driving SO FAST that the machine is getting beat to pieces bouncing across the field or you're causing excess header losses from excessive speed... @@joelhenderson3951 AND if someone *doesn't* know what they're talking about I'll agree with you there... more than enough keyboard warriors who play farmsim and think they know it all... But I've been doing this for 40 years, 8 years in multiple states from the Midwest to Texas; I've learned a thing or two along the way and trying to pass on information is something I enjoy doing... if it helps someone out or makes them think that's a good thing. I get tired of everybody "buying the koolaid" that "just throw a bigger header on it!" is the solution to every problem... wider heads cost more money, they have more moving parts and more to maintain, they're heavier and impose higher loads on the combine and cause more compaction in the soil, and if the combine can only process *so much* material in any given amount of time, a wider head actually means the machine has to SLOW DOWN to allow the extra material being gathered have enough EXTRA TIME to be threshed, separated, cleaned, and processed... I've seen it myself. Or you can run a little faster ground speed with a smaller head you already have paid for... Not exactly rocket science. Plus wide heads, even an 8 row, pushes corn over worse on the inside row going around curves, and has to "pull in" corn more on the outside rows on sharp curves. Narrower heads are MUCH better on curvy rows and irregular fields and wet harvest conditions (because they weigh less, let the combine float better without sinking in as much and causing more compaction or worse yet getting stuck!) That's the point I was trying to make. I can't count the number of times I've read comments like "why don't you get a 12 row head or some monster header for that combine!" when there are VALID REASONS not to... sorry I happened to answer on your short question. Ryan doesn't have time to answer many questions and he doesn't answer that one... So I was just trying to help you and anyone else reading your question and wondering about that themselves... Later! OL J R :)
