exaggerated male muscles are an inspiration to me . need to get back to to a level of strength and endurance where I was . 7:00 AM , 5 other men and I are standing along side a freight train boxcar . Slide open the doors and see that it is topped out with 50 pound sacks of concrete . 4:00 PM , 80% of the car is empty . Right now , I would last maybe 1/2 hour . Question about the premeditatio malorum aspect of the video: At what point would visualization of the potential bad outcomes of events be considered negative thinking? I’ve used this method of thinking for most of my life and I was told it is negative thinking. I just use it so that I’m not unpleasantly surprised by a bad case or worst case scenario. I’ve always been told that positive visualization is crucial to keep anxious thoughts at bay. Is there a middle ground that I am missing?

@@suesanders1169 no one should be old and bitter I believe people are adaptive and can work out a solution to whatever problems they have. People give up and move on too easily these days in my opinion. For instance I look at Indian culture where there is 90% rate of arranged marriages with a 1% divorce rate. People are adaptive and can change we are supposed to grow together not go for new experiences with other people that is the point of the commitment. Like I said guess I am a sucker should have stayed single.

Not the philosophical meaning of what it’s saying. It’s a hubris way of saying what shall be, shall be. However, YOU always have a choice. A choice to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday, a choice to hold the door open for the elderly person or just anyone in general and put someone else before your own selfish ambitions. This is the philosophical mindset of stoicism. Duty to fellow brethren and obviously for us men, the protection of women/children and those with disabilities or special needs. You can choose to change your fate tonight even, change your occupation, open your mind up to previously uncharted territory. I would also urge someone on a deep inner personal journey to watch “Becoming Nobody/No one”. It shows the interconnectedness of us all in the universe without harsh judgment or negativity. It’s not weak to not be negative, actually it’s the exact reverse.

There may have been some practitioners back in the very old days, but in ancient Greek and Roman culture, there were very few (if any!) female philosophers of any stripe. Their position in society was too different. That said, now there are more and more women attracted to the tenets of stoicism, learning, debating, and spreading word about it. I've done a couple of "women and stoicism" google searches, and enjoyed reading some of the articles and papers that came up. As for the muscles, not even the young men looked like that. Only the gods of Greece and Rome!
