I had heard, (I can’t remember the source, I believe it was another former Marine who basically said everything that Marcus said about lawyers, writers being given to him by the Navy. The only thing to add to that is was this: He was given a choice. He could either take the hero story and be used as a recruiting tool. The other option was to have him tried in court for abandoning the team to save himself. It was in the best interest for everyone if he took the first option, so he did. I just wish I could remember the source. I heard this about a decade ago. But up until today, this is the first time I’ve heard him talk about the lawyers and writers being provided by the Navy.

" I'm a coward i dropped my gun and covered my ears when they where yelling my name for help" there wasn't 100s of fighters there were maybe 10 to 15 max. They were dropped in during the day and where simply spotted. They were ambushed and Mark ran. And thats fine I wouldn't judge him if he would have told the truth and admit it. There would have been a predetermined extraction point to use if they had to call off the mission for any reason and/or if they lost comms. This would have resolved the moral conundrum regarding the goat herders as well. If they were worried that the opposing force was too close or could be warned by the goat herders, they could have detained them during the exfil and released them at the extraction point or just release them and haul ass out of there. If it was a hostage rescue or a situation in which lives directly depended on them reaching their objective, that would be dramatically different and could possibly justify continuing or even taking out the goat herders to prevent compromise, but this was not that mission. Considering the lives and resources that could have been saved by that one simple decision, it proves that having to abort a mission isn't necessarily a failure, just a delay in the overall objective.

The degenerate public desire to have heroes they can blindly slobber over is human nature as is giving those to them. The masses feel, they don't think which irks them deeply so they must be addressed as THEIR conditions dictate. Remember to the public this is pure entertainment/morality play and they are not equipped to think differently. Armed forces are necessary for survival of secular democracy but reaching voters who read at ~8th grade level isn't a matter of teaching history, it's a matter of dispensing emotional hand jawbs.
