I feel that Margaret Barker’s works have taught me more about my own religion than almost any other thing I have come across…she opened my mind up in the most profound way, and enabled me to understand concepts such as the temple, Heavenly Mother, Melchizedek Priesthood, the veil etc that opened my mind, enlarged my soul, and became delicious to me. She has had many contacts and visits with LDS scholars. She either “got over it”or has been open from the beginning. I suspect she was pretty open because her subject matter would require a person with an open mind and heart to study it. It’s a bit controversial.

It is interesting how Margaret Barker and Dave Butler interacted. Margaret seemed intent as she listened to Dave with nods of agreement and likewise Dave when he listened. Watching these two great scholars together is an amazing spiritual experience. Bringing them together is a great accomplishment. The Paul brothers were wonderful with their questions that stimulated Margaret Barker's awesome insights. Margaret treated the Paul brothers as advanced pupils and Dave as a peer. The knowledge expounded was inspiring!

The scripture Dave is referring to is found in the Book of Baruch, which is part of the Deuterocanonical books included in the Catholic and Orthodox Christian Old Testaments but not in the Hebrew Bible or most Protestant Bibles. The passage emphasizes that true wisdom comes from knowing and following God’s laws rather than understanding the physical creation. Baruch 3:14 states: “Learn where there is wisdom, where there is strength, where there is understanding, that you may at the same time discern where there is length of days and life, where there is light for the eyes and peace.”
