It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better kzbin.infoUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

Loved your ideas in the video. A couple years ago I presented my husband with a blueprint I had drawn for a platform upon which a blow-up mattress could be placed to extend the size of my bed. When my son and his family visit, they stay in my bedroom but there was not enough sleeping room for the three of them.. I included several "supporting" boards to be placed on the bottom of the platform. When he told me that it didn't need so much support, I told him that in order to store the platform between visits, it would need to stand up against the wall. I intended to use it for yarn storage. I now have a fantastic storage system that doubles as a bed when needed. I of course make sure I keep it well stocked so it doesn't go to waste!

I need a sit down with your daughter in law's dad. A master carpenter? And he can't see being able to build this for under $3000? I see about 6 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood for all the frame parts, 1/2 inch plywood for the back, several things can be used for the thin shelves (1/8-1/4 inch thick). That's $500-600. Those acrylic containers is the expensive part and good containers can be bought cheap.

@tabandken8562 Жыл бұрын
I'm hoping to build a few of these from scratch as well, but I'll use good 3/4 inch plywood. While it's not true lumber, it's better than what comes with this. Total cost would be about $600 not including containers. The thing is, there is so much assembly involved with this version, I'm surprise more people don't just build from scratch. They basically are anyway.
@cynvision Жыл бұрын
Company compares it to cabinet material, so it will exist best in a controlled environment, which stays dry, and not moving much. It's not much different material than used in imported bookshelves from Italy you get at Target. I'd be in on a smaller version built for people who move around where they beef up the materials. In a few ways the particle board for this 72" height weighs a ton. I know. I move those bookshelves in a warehouse.
@cynvision Жыл бұрын
I guess it reads that I'm a bit biased against particle board as a support structure in furniture. I have some Elfa particle board vinyl laminate shelves that do fine when I move, but the rails and brackets are epoxy coated metal. I bought into their system as my alternative to other options around ten years ago. Still spent major money on it but I don't worry about the moisture getting to things quite so badly. And it all comes apart to go carefully on a moving van.

Now looking for efficient/clean storage ideas on how to add more storage atop them. Have learned that my "storage" must be tidy, efficient, visually appealing and easy to use. Well stated! The DreamBox isn’t for everyone. I have it, and I felt the same way about the cost. You did an amazing job of breaking it down to make sense. The fact that it’s made in the USA alone will raise the price- people are too used to the cheap made in China prices, many have forgotten (or maybe never experienced) furniture and items being made here. I had a craft room that I redid and added to every year, trying to make it work. I finally caved and did the Black Friday sale for the DreamBox and Dreamcart, and have zero regrets. The room is more open, which is what I needed. To do it again, I may have skipped the Dream cart and done the sewing station, but it’s still ok! Like I told you before I got mine as a clearance item right after they introduced the light box on the top. I really don't remember how much I paid because I also bought the older version of the sewing box too. Another consideration is space. The big craft box takes up a whole wall in a room. A person really needs a dedicated craft room if they are going to keep it open all the time. Mine does stay open at all times. My husband and I share office space with two desks set in the center. The sewing box is behind him and the big craft box is behind me. We also have a loveseat and built in book cases flanking the double window. There is also a generous sized closet (yarn storage). It's wall to wall furniture. My non-crafting daughter says it makes her claustrophobic.. LOL!! I said it's cozy and comfortable for me.

Good video. Even before I realized ppl were already diy-ing the Dream Box my first thought 💭 when I first saw a Dream Box was , “I can DIY a Dream Box”. For those who in their heart and their pocket can get one go ahead and get it. But for those of us who know they can make one or similar option for a lot less go ahead and let your imagination, creativity and time ( if you have it) and make your own. Thanks for this video.

This is my first time viewing one of your videos and WOW! What a pleasure! You kept it REAL!! Right down from your review, to thoughts, to colloquialism, to even interrupting yourself & updating your thought process! I LOVE that you showed alternate options for comfort, size, creativeness, and COST! We can afford the cost of this beast, we have a designated room for my crafting and have talked about buying it...to the point, that we’ve talked ourselves right out of buying it 3 times (that I can think of, right off). However, I keep watching the videos...thinking, maybe this time. You’ve pointed out so many Pros, that I understand why you bought yours! I appreciate that it was a You thing, that you succeeded in saving for and gifted yourself! I wish you EVERY happiness and hope you get hours of you time, use and pleasure from your gift! Many, many Blessings to you!!!

This was a GREAT video! I'm not really sure why it just now appeared for me; but it's very helpful. Thank you for sharing! I've been toying with the idea of a dream box and wondering if it might actually fit inside a bare closet that I have, and then open into the room as needed. After watching your video, I've measured and re-measured; and ultimately, I think it would fit inside the empty closet (which no longer has the sliding doors). I just wouldn't be able to fully open it to flat. I think it would still work; so it's back on my "wish" list for my craft room. I sew occasionally, use my Cricut maker often, have a passion for Young Living essential oils, and love to oil paint. I know - jack of all trades and master of none. Ha! However, I can see how this Dream box could help me all around and how the time and labor spent on trying to create my own wouldn't be as cost effective. Thank you again!

Thank you .. this has helped me make my decision. The cost of wood is outrageous right now but I believe this will let me put this in my office/ grandchildren’s room. I make jewelry, paint and do nails. Instead of 2 or 3 different places I can keep everything organized in one area. I’m a;ready building their beds because I have the wood bug I could not get the wood, containers this provides anywhere near the 3000 dollar price tag. Again thanks for the video

Margaret, what a wonderful group of ideas! I especially liked the one in which the lady used 4 bookcases. They remind me of some that Walmart carries. I would suggest that during the assembly if the bookcases that people replace the back covers with 1/4 inch thick plywood, stained, or painted to match the finish of the bookcases. They will be much sturdier over the years of use. Also, use screws to attach the new backs to the bookcases, after drilling pilot holes first. I have 2 of the bookcases made under the "Better Homes & Gardens" brand label at Walmart, and they've been in fulltime use in my great room for 7+ years now. The bottom 3 shelfs have been used to hold some 30ilbs+ of books, each for the duration of having them. So I'd happily recommend them to anyone interested in building such a cabinet system themselves. I'm seriously thinking about doing so within the next year.

I created a short version with only 2 fronts using 3 book cases and casters. It cost around $125.00. My craft room is also my sunroom so something blocking my surround windows. It has helped a lot in keeping my most used small items and my Cricut machine which fits perfectly. My vinyl is stored in an over the door hanger and my yarns and fabric are in cubes that line one wall under the window. Great review! I’m blessed that my craft/work space is in our finished basement so I have space!! Hallelujah! Years ago I bought clear plastic drawers on wheels which can be tucked under my sewing table...which was our old dining table in the butcher block style!! Solid and sturdy! I have Rubbermaid or Sterelite shelves which hold big and smaller clear boxes of fabric and yarn (we get the occasional cricket so these boxes with lids are essential!) My desk is a 6’ white work table and I use baskets for various storage. And there’s more but this works great for my needs, which is the point! The dream box wouldn’t work for me because of the height, the size of shelves and my specific needs BUT I’d agree it’s worth its price and is beautiful!!

Thank you for this video!! Just started thinking about this yesterday! I am going to move and downsize probably in 2024 (Today is Jan 1) I wonder, did you put together the whole thing or choose the already put together one? I’m 73, and while I have, in my life, put together some very complex furniture units, at 73 I’m over that! I think I would choose the largest container package because like you I love the see through aspect! I don’t really want to put my ribbon on the bars and was wondering if you can choose different options for that area? I’ve been frugal all of my life and began working officially at age 12 (unofficially before then) and am very fortunate that I will be able to afford something like this. I’ve been a crafter most of my life as well and so I have tons of supplies which I am paring down. Knowing ahead of time that I will have this will definitely help me to plan what to keep except right now I don’t even know what my new home will be like, except very likely I won’t have the extra giant craft room that I now have and that’s fine, no one really needs that, it’s just what happened over time for me! How big of a space were you able to consolidate into your Dream box( about). How much more storage space do you still use besides your Dream box? Did you buy extras besides the package? Thank you! I appreciate all of your help, hints and tips!!💕

Very smart review, and I agree with your core values. I am retired, full time student, amateur musician and crafter. My "studio", a small bedroom, holds all of the associated stuff. This includes multiple saxophones, keyboard, related gear, music books; crafty materials; some books and office stuff. So, I am constantly moving stuff around! ( All my kallax units are on wheels, etc.). My crafts are paper related (junk journals, scrapbooks, cards, coloring, some mixed media) , simple kits and up cycling. So I am very intrigued by the DreamBox as I do think it would hold what I need, close up when needed to clear floor space for duet practice, zoom calls. I am thinking about sliding it into a standard 6' reach in closet (doors off of course). Question: did you put it together yourself or did you buy it preassembled? I don't think the preassembled will go up 3 flights of stairs.
@sheepishlysharing2 жыл бұрын
I bought it preassembled but I see you've watched my other video so you know that there is still some assembly involved. Mine was carried up 1 flight of stairs and they had to navigate a 45 degree turn at the landing. It definitely WOULD go up 3 flights but you'd have to have strong help.

I have tweaked ideas to what can work for me storing my sewing supplies. Yes. I love the clear bins to see what is inside. I prefer to have a lid on the boxes and found some on Amazon that have a hinged top. They work for me! I consider paying the price as an investment in my work so I can do my work better and more efficiently. You have to spend money to make money! Sometimes!!

In today’s world most of us no longer use the ginormous entertainment centers with our wall hung thin TVs. I however still own a custom piece that I spent $4,000 on. It is a beauty but no longer needed. I turned it into my 11 foot craft room center. Now I am certain these can be found on Craigslist for a song and dance as people get rid of them. It is not as organized as your fancy Cadillac organizer but serves my needs perfectly and I simply had to repurpose something I already had. Even so, I suggest that people in need search their OfferUp or Craigslist for options that can be gotten for cheap.

@@sheepishlysharing Hey thanks! Sometimes being on a budget and living in a small space forces one to get creative. I obsessed for a long time about solutions for my space, and having my mind on that actually really helped me through a grieving process after my dad died. Art is wonderful that way, even when it comes to organizing it.

Omg!!!! Thank you show much, i got more ideas after watching your video, i have dreamed to have this craftbox, but I'm living in Vietnam, so the price is too high, and they won't ship it to VN, I've already asked some stores in my country if they would make this box, but the price's still so highhhhh, i've just came up with new idea for my craft room. Once again, thank you very much

SNOW.... Yikes! I saw a Mother's Day snow predicted for parts of the U.S. too. However, while it was in the 80s earlier this week, it's currently 47 so who knows what's going on?! And thanks for the kind words, too, Kathleen! I'm so glad to have people to talk about this stuff with!

Thank you for this video. I would absolutely love a Dream box but I don’t think it’s possible because of the cost. I do love all the alternatives you presented in this video. Time for me to get creative.
