Il ruolo di Armida raggiunge il culmine con una delle arie più fiorite di Rossini: le variazioni "D'amor al dolce impero". In quest'aria la Callas ci offre un formidabile saggio di bravura, trasformando i lunghi melismi in frasi amplissime, alcune delle quali spaziano attraverso più di due ottave. E di nuovo la Callas aumenta le difficoltà della musica, aggiungendo un arpeggio discendente, una cadenza finale e tre RE sovracuti. "L'EREDITA' CALLAS" di John Ardoin.

Every now and then the youtube algorithms throw some other interpretation of this aria my way. And curiosity sometimes has the upper hand... But then I *must* return to this interpretation - I wonder if I'll ever hear another one that just sounds right to me, as much as this one. Probably not. Ever true to the character, Callas shows us just how a sorceress might use her voice to weave a spell... it's otherworldly. Resistance is futile.

Much prefer the original sound track. Stereo didn't exist in 1952. It's a sacrilege to mess around with any Callas recording. No one had the foresight to capture this performance with proper equipment. Tant pis.

If superhuman vocal precision is your idea of robotic then I guess it’s robotic. Nobody in the recorded history has ever been able to sing like this.

Callas sings the most natural and non-laboured coloratura ever with expressiveness. If she is robotic.... idk the others

@@OperaMyWorld Here you may have a point. I often get the sense that KZbin clips have been electronically manipulated. People sound like they are singing from the bottom of a well. That didn’t strike me so much here.
