The way Lucy NEVER hears Kate out, she doesn’t let her explain anything, she doesn’t let her talk to her, she completely shuts her out. She can’t fully heal and move on if she doesn’t LISTEN to her. I feel like hearing her out and understanding her POV could really help her have some peace and comfort.

I know a lot of people are somewhat upset by how this is going, but I honestly kind of like it. It's frustrating, yes, but I think it shows how imperfect both of them are. It's messy and often seems like a "one step forward, two steps back" sort of thing, but I think that's the whole point. It's not as clear cut as, "Whistler's a cheater, she sucks, the relationship is over", or, "Lucy's being mean and immature and Whistler deserves better". Both characters are sympathetic, and both have also behaved immaturely. For Lucy, I think her problem is that she's struggling to listen. On the one hand, in theory, Lucy has no OBLIGATION to hear Whistler out. Whistler hurt her, and she's totally within her right to decide that they're done and that she wants nothing more than a professional relationship. But on the other hand, in practice, she's NOT maintaining a professional relationship. She scolds Whistler in an unprofessional way when she gets hurt, she often reverts back into their playful banter, and she also frequently gets upset with Whistler and brings up her past mistake. This is understandable, of course, since she's clearly still hurting and in love with Whistler, but it also is in no way professional. And if she's not going to keep their relationship professional and continues to bring up the past, then she DOES need to let Whistler speak. You really can't have both-- either keep it professional, or let Whistler actually try to communicate back when you repeatedly lay all of your hurt onto her. She can't just be an emotional punching bag to help Lucy vent about her (justified) hurt. For Whistler, I think she's struggling to actually grasp what really hurts Lucy. Whistler clearly isn't malicious in any of her actions, but rather she just seems to be a bit clueless at effectively communicating. Lucy's anger at Whistler rejecting the promotion seems a bit irrational (and it probably is), but also Whistler clearly didn't understand why it would hurt Lucy. The whole keeping important things from Lucy and then having her find out through a third party is clearly very triggering, and then the reminder of Cara probably didn't help. But Whistler seems to have trouble understanding that for Lucy, a relationship is founded on openness. I'd imagine that as a former intelligence officer and also just a rather closed off seeming person in general, Whistler is used to compartmentalizing everything, including relationships. And while it's clearly she's working on being better at being open and improving her communication, she unsurprisingly is still learning. I think it's pretty easy for people to sort of side with Whistler here, and that's (imo) because she's just looks so sad all the time! With Lucy, we get to see her in plenty of interactions unrelated to Whistler, and we also see her having friendships with the rest of the team and trying to move on romantically as well. On the other hand, we more often see Whistler just looking sad and getting yelled at by Lucy, without any of the cool confidence that she had in earlier episodes. So it's definitely easy to sympathize with her. But I do like how long this is taking to resolve. I know that it feels frustrating, but shows so often just brush over cheating storylines and leave you feeling like things weren't properly resolved (oftentimes I end up never forgiving the character who cheated). This one not only actually gives an appropriate amount of time to how you'd actually deal with something like this, but also actually is showing the problems in the relationship that led up to the break up (Lucy's stubbornness, unwillingness to listen, Whistler's poor communication, lack of openness). Ik this was very long but honestly it's just because I'm really enjoying this slow development and it kinda makes me sad that people seem to be writing it off so much! But I do agree that it's frustrating.

I think people fail to see how Lucy is acting in order to protect herself. I think she’s been hurt in the past based on her black and white thinking, maybe something happened with family dynamics. No one acts like this out of the blue, I don’t think Whistler brought this on. She’s upset finding out about Kate staying in Hawaii because that confirms that she truly was in it, that she wasn’t just a fling for her or that Lucy was the other woman. I think this proves it to her that Kate, in her own way, is showing she loves her. And I can see that Lucy is upset with herself for being mad. I’ve been mad at myself for being so upset at a situation and grasp at something to be mad about, and this is another thing for Lucy. She’s trying to find a reason to stay mad, to justify it. It’s sad because it shows how deep her hurt goes. If Kate explains herself, which I’m sure Lucy knows deep down what she’ll say, there’s no more running, no more reasons to stay mad. Yes she’s acting childish and it’s frustrating to see but I can tell that it comes from a place of deep hurt that is prior to Kate, and I want to see what that is. We don’t know much of either of the two and they both carry something. Kate is terrible at communicating and charges head first into things without thinking, Lucy seems to think too much about things. They balance eachother out in this regard. Both have their flaws and it’s difficult to choose a side, I see both sides having their own part in this.

I knew that promotion was offered back before she joined the FBI! That's exactly how I wanted this to play out. Sure it's still messy but it proves that despite her massive stupid mistake, Whistler was as committed to Lucy as Lucy was to her. I say it every week but I think this relationship is being extremely well written, despite the fact they've been broken up maybe longer than they were together 😄 It's so refreshing to see them acknowledge the emotional fallout from the Cara reveal, especially for Lucy. Usually a show will throw something like that in, break a couple up, then they don't interact for half a season, before circumstances force them to work together and they still have feeling and BAM! they're back together without ever having talked about what happened, acknowledged mistakes, feelings etc. etc. It feels like they're really allowing Lucy to work through her heartbreak in quite a healthy way, and for a believable amount of time. They've also managed to undercut the Cara thing with cold, hard proof that career driven Kate Whistler turned down a big promotion to stay with Lucy. I do think we need to give Whistler a chance to express some feelings now though. And then, hopefully, if/when they get back together, it's been done in a really mature way, that still allows the audience to care and root for them as a couple, despite a sort of cheating storyline. All that is to say, it's very rare to see a show use a kind of cheating storyline to actually add depth to a relationship and make it stronger in a very believable and grown up way.

You can see throughout the whole season that Kate is an introvert and someone who thinks a lot before she speaks - she doesn't say much, and that's why whenever Lucy keeps shutting her up, she doesn't fight it. She never gets frazzled with her words like Lucy does, and she's also very guarded and doesn't talk a lot about her feeling. I think as an extrovert, chatty, sharer, Lucy needs to recognise that and at the very least, LET. THE. WOMAN. SPEAK.

I’m SCREAMING!!! Loved!!?? Lucy no 😭 Edit: okay I think I got a hold of myself. It started out so good but y’all are right in a way. Lucy is emotionally hurting her own self for not allowing Kate to express her own sorrows and brokenness. Yes Kate made a mistake but it wasn’t to hurt Lucy. Kate thought it was over because after nine months of not hearing from someone you are supposedly dating, it’s obviously you were ghosted and that was the end. Kate would of eventually told Lucy (yet we would never know since Cara came to ruin everything because she didn’t take the ghosting as an end to a relationship that was already on the rocks). Kate deserves to have a chance to say her side because what else can come from turning down a job where her supposed gf is. Will be crushed if they do not get back together. These two have such chemistry. The way they look at each other melts your heart. They definitely have their own previous issues and it would help a lot to know what they are. They both have been back and forth on being openly together. Even though Kate should have told Lucy about Cara, I can understand after being gone from DC that long her thinking it wasn't necessary and figured it had fizzled out. And can understand Lucy being hurt, but there is no indication Kate cheated on Lucy. The communication skills for both are sorely missing. Lucy gets mad and shuts Kate down and Kate is at a loss on how to respond. I agree Lucy getting mad about Kate's job decision is just an excuse. She is terrified to give Kate a chance, because she will see just how much Kate loves her. Putting Lucy above any career advancement. It will be an interesting 2 episodes to finish the season. Though I get what the writers are doing, they do need to get it resolved. I don't know that I can watch next season if they aren't back together or totally split. But would hope that decision will be made after both get a chance to open up about their feelings once and for all. Because if one moves forward, I want both to be able to and they can't truly do that until they deal with their feelings. Right now Kate's heart is the one being trampled on. Lucy must have been cheated on in the past and I think the secrecy thing with Kate is from not being comfortable coming out as a lesbian for career reasons or even family. I'm not expecting a full blown get make up, but just want them both to recognize their love for each other and that their relationship is definitely worth saving.

I appreciate the show giving Lucy time to process and knowing her worth! It is starting to feel like the narrative is going in circles bc Kate has not explained herself atp, but I’m glad they didn’t gloss over her cheating. I don’t think Kate is malicious, I just think she’s horrible at communicating and playing things close to her chest comes off as selfish. I imagine a lot of it is Kate’s own past as DIA, losing her brother, etc, she seems to have problems letting ppl in. She was very mean girl, closed-off, hot & cold with Lucy at the start of the show. I enjoy the growth that she is slowly changing and opening up from that, but it won’t happen all at once. I think the biggest thing for Lucy this ep was finding out Kate kept ANOTHER secret from her. We already know Lucy values openness, that it’s a need she put aside to be with Whistler at the pace Whistler was comfortable with, & that it bit her in the ass when she found out Whistler had a whole girlfriend she never mentioned. So yet another secret after Whistler finally apologized for the first hit hard. She was offered a promotion, weighed it, ultimately declined it, but for Lucy hearing this from a stranger for the first time?? Prolly felt like another betrayal. What if Kate had decided to take the promotion?? Lucy would’ve been blindsided, in love with a woman who left and didn’t even tell her that her leaving was a possibility. All this after almost losing Whistler and almost being killed herself. She’s got a lot to process! I hope reconciliation happens by the end of the season, but I don’t blame her for any of her reactions. I do wish the show would give us some Kate scenes of what Kate is thinking thru all this, what the hell she was thinking w the cara situation, what that entire situation actually entailed (how involved was she w cara once she and Lucy started dating?? We know in the rock’n’bowl scene where she snapped at Lucy that that was probably cara on the phone so clearly she had been communicating w her the entire time?? Which makes the betrayal worse?? Explain urself Kate Whistler! But given her billing, I don’t think we will find much out about that. Idk how we’ll get from this point to reconciliation but am still hopeful that’s the goal, bc 12 eps for a breakup of a relationship that lasted 4-5 eps makes no narrative sense.

Like Whistler casually mentioned she wasn't coming back to DC, and Cara was like "isn't that something you should discuss with your girlfriend?" and Whistler was like "how do you know my girlfriend?" 😄 Obviously it didn't play out quite like that, but it would be interesting if that is why Cara ended up coming to visit, and literally how Whistler realised she accidentally had 2 girlfriends.

Why do I feel like I am siding with Kate here. I understand that Lucy found out about Cara hurts her, but it wasn’t Kate’s intention to hurt her. She didn’t really know where their relationship was at the moment, neither did she expect Cara to show up. And she assumed that Cara and her ended when she moved away, and that’s is the only mistake she made. Because if the assumption, she didn’t think to disclose about Cara to Lucy, which is not anyway malicious. Lucy never give her a chance, but instead she tortures both of them. However, she can’t even keep her professionalism anymore, she flirts with Kate and then gets upset right after, so I am not sure how this is going to work out. Kate can’t read her mind, so if she doesn’t want to even have a conversation, why is she being upset and keeps dwelling on an honest mistake. Both of the are lacking in communication. And maybe it’s me, but the writers are making Kate look not very smart when she is around Lucy, but her character is supposed to be very intelligent. I am losing my patience with them, lol.
