Iyanla has it backward. Aren't men supposed to be the leaders? So shouldn't we be saying the better and stronger MEN are, the softer and more feminine and submissive WOMEN can be. Lead with honor, lead with love, lead with integrity, and let the woman follow suit. If she doesn't, then on to the next one.

@@YellaBellaRenoexactly they think she's tough because she's not in the kitchen backing cookies for free that's not soft that's ghetto as fuck to serve a man. I also noticed when your at work if they see a woman working harder then the men they send that woman to another department because they get embarrassed at how good women are at re stocking and re facing products. My department is right next to diary department were it looks trashed it gets them in trouble and it makes them hustle to finish there half of the store. Take a picture when your done building your shelf so that they know it was two women that finished it.

“So, if a man wants to be a better man for me, it all depends on me.” You nailed it. What is supposed to make a woman a better woman? Oh? It doesn’t go both ways? Well then, respectfully auntie, just no. No. Leaning into softness might have worked for generations of women whose biggest concern was not being beaten, separated from her children, and put out on the streets… but today? No. Today, we are raising the bar; not just for our men, but for OURSELVES as well.

The advice this woman is giving is what we call "romanticizing". PLEASE, ladies, take care of yourself and take no shit. YOU have more to lose in a marriage. Even in this day and age. There is a reason that in nature, animals only choose the strongest, most attractive and the mate they think is the best, and the species continues on with good genetic material as a result. Apply that same principle to yourselves with regard to physical, financial, and mental aptitude, ladies. YOU hold the sexual selection power. You can determine who gets the honor and privilege of continuing their bloodline. Don't let anyone think they can debase you.

There is very little less attractive than a man so weak he needs his woman to be less so he can feel more. Men and women are complimentary. If a woman needs to dull her shine, it's either because the man is refusing to step up, or she's dating down and needs to move on. I'm not sorry for saying it. My husband was in his feelings about me earning more. I told him to earn more. Shit's that simple. He makes good money, the pay gap doesn't bother me, it bothers him, it's his problem, not mine. The more we earn, the more we bring to the family AS PARTNERS. If he feels my success destabilizes his position as the provider, he needs to get out there and provide. He is because he's not dusty AF which is why he's married and I left other lesser men on the curb. Date your equals ladies. He doesn't need to bring as much money as you, but he does need to provide as a man when you are providing as a woman.

I have a few questions about this perspective. 1.If men are the leaders; how is it that their behaviour is supposed to be mirroring us? Shouldn't it be the other way around? 2. As an independant black woman who has put herself through school and thereby has the ability to give herself a decent life on her own; how is shrinking to fit the average BM supposed to give HIM the ability to compensate all that I am expected to sacrifice in order to be in "partnership" with him? If he can't even be what he needs to be for himself, my guess is that he will fail in that endevour before he tries. How will I NOT be wasting my time? 3.If I'm the source of HIS strength; where is the source of mine's? I personally lean on my sense of spirituality and that being the case often question why our men can't lean the same. Even the religous seem to NEED the energy of women to a suspicous degree. 4.The average bm has very little power in the world. How is me being a "soft place" not making me as a BW even more vulnerable in a world where my "protector" can't even protect himself? Shouldn't demolishing white supremacy be the first order of business before I do that? And finally 5; if all this violent acting out that too many BM engage in is a result of BM's struggle to love himself through the devaluation of white supremacy; how can he POSSIBLY have any love to give the women and children in his life? Wouldn't a personal journey of healing be the prerequsite for even attempting to be someone's husband and eventually, father? No woman can be responsible for that and if BM think she should be, then may I please refer you to question 1.😮

Iyanla Vanzant isn’t specialized in any way to handle mental health or trauma, because any therapist would say that this kind of thinking leads to self-sabotage and self-blame for things outside of your control - and that it also opens one up to accepting abuse when they shouldn’t. If you aren’t where you should be as an adult, it’s on YOU to change - not anyone else.

That's bc Iyanla isn't qualified to advise on these things. She's an inspirational speaker, lawyer, "New Thought" spiritual teacher, author, life coach, and television personality. This is all code for shiesty grifter and gimmicky snake-oil salesman. She's neither a therapist, a psychiatrist, psychologist, neurologist, anthropologist, or social worker. She's not even a counselor. All of which require specialized degrees. Her only accredited degree is in law, that's it. All her other titles can be gotten through connections and a paid online certificate. Idk why anybody thought she was in any position to be giving advice about people's REAL circumstances. She's a hack.

Nope. Even roses have thorns. It means they have a personality, standards and boundaries. Of course rose pickers would like roses not to have thorns but if they did , they would be called something else, an unnatural appearance of what they once used to be, with all the beauty and all the glory gone. All insects too, will have easy access to their petals because they can climb nonchalantly on their stems. Women are roses🌹

The more I keep hearing, auntie talk, the more I realize that she is a Betamax living in a digital world. Her antiquated ideas of what she thinks men do to contemporary women is astounding to me. Men don’t need a soft place to fall, they need to find their honor. Men don’t honor themselves, their commitments, their tasks, or anything else like they used to. The follow through with honor is gone in so many ways today. It is all about getting what you can get or doing something to somebody else before they do it to you or making sure that you justify hurting somebody. Because you don’t want them to hurt you first. Women have issues too. Not saying they don’t so don’t come at me, but if we’re talking about men and the fact that women have to hedge off a man’s interest or access to their own worth before it happens, is just an over investment that has no return in today’s society. It is too easy to be left high and dry and hurt with a whole Lotta babies that a man just won’t regard because he wants to go chase some thing else. You can’t rely on people like you used to because the world has gotten bigger for everyone and because the world is gotten bigger. You have to make sure that you protect your little pocket because it’s easy for somebody to come in and dismantle that under the guise of trust “softness”

She probably started dating before women had the right to own their own credit. Are we to surmise that her marriages failed because she wasn’t soft enough? Did she not bow down to her standing strong men? Did she not create a world for her men where they could thrive and rule? How come she can’t mold herself into what her men need in order for them to be satisfied enough to stay with her? Accountability is a thing that each individual must grapple with when it comes to the quality of their life based on their own choices and way of being. I can’t even believe Iyanla said that! She knows damn well it doesn’t matter what YOU do, a person that doesn’t even see an issue with their behavior to begin with, is not going to change on the account of you. The ONLY thing that can change a person is their actual desire to do so! A lot of men don’t have that desire because of this pseudo patriarchal power that automatically says everything wrong in the world is the fault of a woman! Women have been shrinking and conforming for decades thinking that nurturing and loving a man would make him act right. Her generation is the main generation that can speak to the untruth of what she is talking about! The jokes write themselves at this point!

You young girls, me being close to Iyanla's age, get your education, exercise, watch your diets, find healthy greens and put your spin on it. Ask God to come in your life and take over. Keep your legs closed until you have a ring. It won't be easy, but worth it.

@0:50 It’s also why women stay with abusers! They think they can live them more. Or act better, and the man will stop. When the abuse has nothing to do with that. It’s all about them controlling you, and not having to answer for their bad behavior or their shortcoming. That’s what abuse is about. It has nothing to do with love.

Mama Iyanla is the original pick me. I like her books on self healing but relationships. She is not the one to take advice from. She herself could not keep 3 men so I am not sure what she was talking about there.

So if you never meet your equal does that mean you are not good? Why do people believe they are owed or guaranteed to encounter the person that fits your spirit or sould in this world or bilions of people? Be a good person, contribute to your society and if meeting your mate happens okay if it doesn't that is okay. We are acting like their are millions of people who have never been matches with the love of their life. We women exits as beings autonomously and would notbmind partnership if the right one comes by

She isnt always wrong, she just doesnt have good context. For instance, you can incite attraction with being warmer and softer vs colder. But context is - who is the man, is he masculine, is he a protector so you feel safe being soft. She doesnt address that so it sounds completely out of touch
