Pursed lips elongate the vocal tract cause lower frequencies have longer wavelengths so to acquire resonance needs longer tract, and reason why she almost eats the is called a proximity effect. She ugly uses this when she is in the 3rd or 2nd octave

@@sebastony I love her, but when doing a tribute she over did it imo. I know she loves Mariah and vice versa and Pattis voice is a monster and has barely changed with age. I guess I just would like her a bit more if she could sing soft as well. Jennifer Hudson has the same issue.

Please react to two of my favorite female soul singers, Vesta Williams and Phyllis Hyman. They have gone onto sing in the heavenly choir with thee Whitney Houston. The only difference is they weren't as validated and decorated as she was. Vesta performed "Congratulations" on the Rusty Chalfont show and Phyllis sang "Living All Alone" on the Dave Letterman Show.
