Johnny Cash - Christmas show 1977

John R. "Johnny" Cash (February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was a singer-songwriter, actor, and author,[2] widely considered one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century.[3] Although primarily remembered as a country music icon, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of multiple induction in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.
Cash was known for his deep bass-baritone voice,[a][5] the distinctive sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, a rebelliousness[6][7] coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor,[4] free prison concerts,[8][9][page needed] and trademark look, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black".[b] He traditionally began his concerts with the simple "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash."[c], followed by his signature "Folsom Prison Blues".
Much of Cash's music echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation and redemption, especially in the later stages of his career.[4][12] His best-known songs included "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm" and "Man in Black". He also recorded humorous numbers like "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue"; a duet with his future wife, June Carter, called "Jackson"; and railroad songs including "Hey, Porter" and "Rock Island Line".[13] During the last stage of his career, Cash covered songs by several late 20th-century rock artists, most notably "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails.

He was a great man of his time. A heart that did care. He had demons yet with the support of his strong-willed wife he was able to conquer them. A very religious man but his heart was open for many gentile and Jew. He was very outspoken, especially in 1993 when the Clinton Administration supported Arafat in creating the "PA" which housed the PLO. In Bethlehem and in Jerusalem churches, one can see bullet and vandalism all stemming from the days of the PLO. Mr. Cash chastised the Administration for giving in to "Darkness and Evil that will try to destroy what is good.

being Air force retired I loved seeing Johnny in the USAF uniform. Even though I was RCAF (100 yrs old this 2024) the first airplane I'd fly on was USAF Convair 540, invited aboard by USAF (Norad) General. I was 17 and served caviar -- I had no idea what it was, but was told 'try it you'll like it'. Once off the plane, I thought this Air Force thing isn't so bad. I wish Johnny Cash was still flying with us. (PS I'm 75!)

My father told me when I was very young. Never discuss religion and politics and you will have more friends and less enemies. Of course that was way before the internet and social apps, where you can say anything and do it in your basement. We have become introverts with an attitude problem. Technology is great, but we must remember that we are human and human interaction is critical for the survival of mankind. When we all figure that out, I bet we will see shows like this again.
