Poor Marie.. the welcoming when she arrived was well but soon immediately when she enter the freaking big palace with most court individuals seemingly cold and full of judmental people. For a person by her age.... imagine the horror. I always felt like it was a culture shock for her. By the way, one of her favorite thing to do is recreating the garden of Versailles... she worked closely with the landscape architect and her project spans over decades.

"Effect" means to "bring about", to "cause to happen". And Marie Antoinette had no power to "effect" attitudes of hatred towards Austrians. Her bullying mother did not realize this "affected" her ability to influence her young husband regarding policy towards Austria.

@Riva S Yes. But I'm so highly literate that many people think I'm dumb and try to correct me. I come from a generation and a time when education was superior and nobody left school illiterate, Now, education world wide is deliberately being dumbed down - illiterate people can't fight back, much less know their rights. Did you know they are removing vast amounts of words and meanings from dictionaries? This means they also have to dumb down literature, ancient fairy tales etc - because they contain words the modern reader has never heard of and cannot understand. They are simplifying literature and spoon feeding you what they want you to know.......

Sherry Miller The children are Enfants d’Honneur (Children of Honour), they were usually young children of the Nobility who would act as a small entourage to senior noble (or royal) children. Marie Antoinette was only 14 or so at the time of her Handover, so I assume they kept her company. On the same token, these Children also acted as pages and impromptu valets.

The movie is very well made. The actors are great, most of the costumes are beautiful, not so great about the wigs... But so historically inaccurate. Another Hollywood romcom about French history. Quite a disappointment despite all the efforts.
@silvergust3 жыл бұрын
It's not supposed to be completely historically accurate, as that was very obviously intentional from the director herself. It was put in a more modernized way filled with metaphorical images to tell a story that can be more suitable for younger audiences (most likely teenage girls in the 2000s) and how 17th century france would look like from that POV of a younger person in this generation.

this is a modern movie and a particular way of telling things, music was just a way to bring this era under a 21st century light...

Sophia Coppola (the director) is genius because she portrayed this movie as a similarity with nowadays young celebrity with huge success, great fame and an A lister but in the same time feeling disconnected to the world around him/her. The fact that Marie Antoinette was an A lister of her time with great lineage and super rich but at the same time feeling disconnected to the world around her does fit inside this narrative. You have to look at this perspective when watching this movie to truly understand the meaning of it. The music selection inside this movie is to reflect the connection of this idea. There's a video explaining about the music selection (which is very important for the theme of this movie) and the general theme of this movie so you can really grasp the idea of the director.

The funny part is the French blamed her for starving not the French king who spent all of Frances money on the palace of Versailles. We feel sorry for her. She was a child thrust into the hostile French court with a French husband who didn't know how to consummate his marriage.
