I love the way this song builds from such a quiet start and Steve Hogarth puts so much into it he looks emotionally drained at the end.

This is what a Band is. Real singer, musicians and composers in a beautiful melody

This band have been part of my life for 26 years and Fantastic Place is one of their very best songs they have done. This song and the acoustic 'Afraid of Sunlight' are on my funeral playlist. Mind you, as an atheist, the 'fantastic place' does not lie behind pearly gates!

And I used to think Brian May was the most underrated guitarist in the world. Steve Rothery is so gooood not alot of long solos but so on keywith emotion and absolutely amazing sound.
@ikkezelf5993 жыл бұрын
Now 7yrs after your comment i wonder if you get to read this reply. Someone made 2 vids with his best solo's. Not sure of the titel but wen typing Steve Rothery best solo's part one or part two you are going to find them and in those you get some longer solo,s also because its live material he could improvise more prob. Vreetigs from the Netherlands

Brian May underrated? Think not! :) But I do think Marillion is definitely underrated, not just Rothery but the whole band, unfortunately...

prob the best song ever... My heart goes wild when i hear it

Magnificent beyond belief. Hogarths best lyrics and best vocals ever. Just look at the emotion on him at the end. I tear up every time I listen to this. And even though the band is in in top notch form here, Mark Kelly's keyboards color this especially well.

First saw Marillion (with H!) in concert in 1993... never thought I'd see a better concert in my life--H had so much energy and soul, and the band (Ian!!!!!) was absolutely at the top of their game. I felt certain it was some kind of fluke--a trick of light and sound, a failure of discernment on my part, that old instinct of "the last concert I see is always the best"... Boy was I wrong. This--this song, this concert, this band's whole career--is just stunning. Thank you, H and the lads...

Steve Hogarth est un génie. Il fait passer plein d'émotions, et Steve Rothery n'est pas en reste avec la fabuleuse envolée,qu'il nous offre en fin de morceau. Un pure bijou pour un superbe album qu'est Marbles.
@companyof813 жыл бұрын
see that there? that's a singer singing a song with true emotion, pure genious. doesn't get any better than this. any doubts take a look at his face at the end of the song. pure emotion coming from him. though i love fish i can relate so much more to h and marillion's songs post fish. and the emotion, the emotion h puts into every song, you can't top that. he's brilliant.

This song has hit home so very much for me; what a find. Beautiful; soulful, my heart is (still) aching due to meeting someone and finding out she didn't feel the way I do, so I've been struggling to "let that somebody go". At the end of the lyrics he says "you'll either kill me or save me".....well she....I know....I'm trying to move on, but it's a struggle you know? Thanks for the great music Marillion....

Once again the fantastic H puts his heart and soul into a stunning performance. I'm late discovering the post-Fish era and believe Marillion with Steve Hogarth have written some of the most beautiful stories and love songs ever. Just look at his face at the end of this song - he's put everything he has into it and is clearly emotional. Love to all fans, old and new, from a 70s rock chick!

The answer is far easier than you think: If you keep your quality high, you will only speak to a few people, to an elite. If you want to speak to the masses, you must lower your quality, that's how it works, no matter if you are a musician or a writer or another kind of artist. Marillion chose to keep their quality skyrocketing to the highest levels. :)
