They actually drove that Humvee over that car to film that scene. Early pre-armored Humvees will do some goofy looking stuff cuz the front tires start clawing at whatever is in their way before the bumper has a chance to hit and get jammed. Considering what they were supposed to be used for, they're pretty cleverly engineered.

Few things for context. HMMV can roll over a car like that (blown out tires, abandoned vehicle) because it's a lot lower to the ground. The Iraqis that they un-surrendered were actually civilians/unarmed surrendering as a part of psy ops campaign of leaflets dropped before the invasion saying that if they surrendered the US would take care of them for the duration of invasion. The goal was to have soldiers surrender and civilians to leave dense population centers to minimize casualties. They got fucked because they left homes with nothing and the first Americans they encountered told them to go back where loyalists were executing them as traitors.

0:47 That's nuts. I never noticed that in the show before. I remember when the second Iraq war was going on and there was talk about unarmored Humvees. Some people had charities going on to get armor put on them and stuff like that. I always thought they just meant that the Humvees didn't have additional armor plating to make them more bullet proof. I had no idea they were completely open topped with no doors or anything. That isn't unarmored, that's not even enclosed. I had no idea that was the state of things. That's fucked up.
@ghostmedic171TV Жыл бұрын
As somebody who rolled around Baghdad in 05/06, in what we thought was marginally effective armor add ons (those M1025s and those add on ballistic glass inserts that seemed 6 inches thick). Most of us were pretty skeptical about how that would hold up against small arms, much less an IED Even after getting our fresh new M1114 up-armored trucks - especially after taking an IED on my door (and that same truck, saving my life) - at times, I know I couldn’t help but let my mind wander and start thinking about an EFP melting through an up-armored anything at thousands of feet per second - you just push it out of your mind and drive on. But open door trucks??? I thought it was insane to hear and see stories Marines and Soldiers rolling around Iraq in open door HUMMWVs. At that time, I didnt know thats how they were running their missions. And sure, by the time 05/06 in Iraq, it was a full blown counter insurgency; maybe a little different as to mission - but it still blows my mind. Much respect to the Marines and Soldiers - we we’re lucky just to have doors on our trucks!

I was in the Navy for 8 years 3 different ship commands and a total of 5 years deployed. 2 different combat zones. And Generation Kill is accurate as it’s 40% waiting for shit to happen, 15% bureaucracy, and 5% action, and then another 40% waiting. Civilians think it’s constant action and depending on your job it is, but for many, it’s always waiting and being on edge of something to happen. That’s why a lot of us suffer from some form of PTSD as it’s waiting
@jenicdarling9425 Жыл бұрын
I just remembered a really random dumb story about some people I met from the navy and how I accidentally exposed one of them. I met them when I was at a hotel in Jacksonville Florida cause I was going to the Mayo Clinic. They just got back from being out at sea for long time so was staying at the hotel to go out drink and party. It was really late and I smoked cigarettes then so was outside by the front when I met them, two guys and a girl getting back from going out and had a smoke too so we got to talking when one of them asked if I happen to see their friend that got back a lil before they did. She described him like tall huge black guy. I’m like oh he was in a taxi right? Yes! With the girl right, yeah they were all over each other. And they’re looking at each other smiling like ohh shit. Then I say his name is Teddy right? And they stop smiling and say something like huh Teddy? And I’m there like oh I thought his name was Teddy cause she kept calling him Teddy and her big Teddy bear? I swear their heads all snapped to look at each other and all had shit eating grins before cracking up and repeating teddy bear over and over laughing with each other. That poor bastard wasn’t gunna hear the end of it from them all the next day with how excited they were about that information. I wonder if they made it his new nickname? Or if they told everyone else when they got back to base!? Lol part of me feels bad knowing they had to have really teased him about it but the other part of me really wants to know what his face looked like when they revealed to him that they knew what that woman’s pet name for him is. I’m sorry for exposing you Teddy! I mean It could’ve been worse 😂😂
