I know this would be really hard, but I think it would be really cool if we had this cool new mode where all the tracks connect in some way whether it's by a highway, or a farm like road. Something where we would do kind of a cool free drive type of mode. It wouldn't have to be all the tracks, but just like 10-20 of them.

48 is a huge number of tracks for the amount of unique assets they're using. I'm not even sure what important old tracks are still missing; maybe do those if they seem worth it... but how about this... Lets say they include all those 48 tracks, scrap the other "new" battle mode entirely, and replace it with a revamped take on the good old Double Dash battle mode, with 8-12 non-linear stages of varying size/complexity. Would you take that (and maybe a new character/kart or two) but no new standard tracks? That's what I'd hope they'd do, but regardless as someone who doesn't own a Wii U but will probably buy a Switch, they could add/change nothing and I'd still end up buying it, because minus mode variety, it's still a very substantial package for racing game.

But... they've already announced that the games shown were not actual games, merely proof of concepts (though I'd imagine that the Mario game was at the very least using assets from a planned game and the "games" shown definitely had elements that they want to work into the real games).

Remove babies and duplicate characters. Seeing how they've added King Boo, they need to add Nabbit, Funky Kong, Plessie, Pianta, Petey Piranha, Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr, Birdo, Dry Bones. Some of those are expendable, but definitely not Nabbit, Bowser Jr, or Funky. Funky because he is known for Mario Kart. That's his jam right there.

I agree! The port would definitely be worth buying with 16 new tracks added onto the existing 48 because Mario Kart games only used to be 16 tracks long. There were only ever 32 in each game starting with Mario Kart DS. Who knows? Maybe they'll do 16 new retro course renditions in the MK8 style, and we'd have 80 tracks in total!

You hit everything on the head with what is needed on Mario Kart Switch. I'm just a bit afraid that there won't be enough content to buy it again. I've logged 300+ hours into MK8 and I'm a bit disappointed that it is getting overshadowed by a better "port". We won't know until more information comes out, but I'm going to hold my breath until I do hear something.

I agree with Josh. Mario Kart 8 is great. Adding Arena maps and game modes for battle for me would make the game perfect. Of course add new characters to make the rooster somewhat diverse. Since Battle mode in Mario Kart 8 is great in terms of gameplay not content. It combines the classic last man standing with the newer point system to make a unique battle. Of course it lack arena maps and modes. I think the item balance on Mario Kart 8's battle mode is more balance then racing at times haha. I am not sure if they will bring back mission mode but I would love them to add them to 8.

Take notes from Sonic and Allstars Racing Transformed. More to do than racing. Give us unique missions. Give us upgradable karts. Make the flying mechanic(if it returns), more interesting and implemented instead of just gliding downwards. Maybe even boss races like in Diddy Kong Racing. Also, more Nintendo characters. 8 DLC was a step in the right direction. But bring in other Nintendo characters and give them their own ride(example, Kirby in a Warpstar), and series specific items. Mario Kart is fun and all, but there has got to be more to it than just racing.

I would like to see E Gadd and Kamek as new characters. If they don't plan on making a F Zero game then I wouldn't mind seeing Captain Falcon in with a new speed class faster than 200cc. With the koopalings they should do what they did with Yoshi and Shy guy colour alts. Another thing I would like to see is a mirror mode time trials.

everything from mk8, new and returning characters, more carts and cart pieces, get rid of mk8's battle mode tracks and have at least one track per as many cups are in the game (revamped retro and new maps) plus multiple modes to play, and of course and cups. At least 2 new cups with more retro and new courses but 4 new cups would be going above and beyond which they should. I never played the ds one so I haven't tried mission mode but it sounds like a cool idea plus your idea for the challenging your friends scores sounds great Josh.

if you put homebrew channel on your wii or wii u (wii mode) you can patch mario kart wii so it connects do a different server, look up wiimmfi, it is a fan server, actually it is more than just mkwii server, it supports some wii and ds games (even animal crossings)

Yes a good battle mode is the way to go, it wouldn't hurt to have and keep rewarding fans as well with new content through DLC releases though. On the subject of DLC, I felt rather underwhelmed by the DLCs they did release for MK8. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them however, I felt they could have done a little bit better. For instance, Link was bundled in with content that was unrelated to well... Link. What they should have done was released Link with Zelda, Ganondorf and a Tri-force Cup with four new tracks based on the Zelda universe and an arena or two based on his universe. Same with subsequent releases; Imagine a Super Mario Bros. 3 Cup with three or more new playable characters from that game and four new tracks and one or two battle arenas based on SMB3. I like the idea behind mission mode or quests, that can make it worthwhile as a singular experience for any player. Rogersbase mentioned the Super Smash Bros. formula, I agree with him... it is something that I have been dreaming of for a long time. I don't know if it will happen but I'd like to be optimistic and dream that it could still happen. Now here are some random things I want to see; 1. No more reskinned versions of existing characters. "I'm looking at you Gold Pink Peach" At the very least, this should be an option for changing the characters look/clothing much like in Super Smash Bros. That way character slots won't be used up on anymore unnecessary duplicate characters. 2. Baby characters, this needs to end. Baby karts too... toss this out. Grow up a bit Nintendo. 3. More fauna in the game tracks, I'm not talking about the crowds. I'm talking about actual enemies from the games. They can be obstacles or something in the environment that keeps the tracks looking dynamic. Redeads in Zelda's castle shuffling about or baubles hanging around and causing trouble. 4. A day and night time system for all tracks; They've done this already with the Animal Crossing track. A day and nighttime mechanic would keep the other tracks interesting. 5. Seasonal system; much like #4, this would add more life to the tracks. 6. Giving more options and control to the player on how they want to play... this is weird on MK8. 7. How about other racing modes; racing Yshis instead of Karts. Race through Yoshi's island with a stampede or Yoshis trying to stay alive to the finish line. Or Goron/Zora racing... F-Zero... race Star Fox, Kirby and Samus across space. : D No?! : 0 Oh okay... : ) Anyway, Happy Halloween Josh.

I don't think it's gonna be a port there is no evidence really supporting that either from the footage they showed. I just think it's gonna be the same as any other Mario Kart game. 4 new cups, 4 retro cups (Possibly 2 or even 4 DLC Cups since it worked out well for them last time) along with a few new characters and some returning old characters. At this point there isn't that many new features they can add with the addition of the Glider and being able to drive Underwater. An idea that I would like though is being able to change kart pieces throughout Grand Prix courses. Also the addition to multi pathway tracks which can also introduce new tires which can benefit specific tracks like if the whole track is mainly made out of fire then you can get some metal tires. The whole track is based on a mountain so you'll have to go off road a lot you could introduce new wheels that you can swap out to benefit you on that course. It's just an idea though.

I want a better choice of characters, because the choice in MK8 is the worst. Let's have better items, and items should change to what Nintendo (none-Mario-Kart) course you are playing. So if you are playing a Splatoon level, maybe instead of a banana you will drop a splodge of ink on the floor. It'll have the same effect, but the visuals would fit the track. Let's also have other challenges, like the Sonic racing games. AND BRING BACK BATTLE MODE!!!!!

For mechanics: They need to revamp the item system. It's garbage. Totally unbalanced. Bikes: They should be able to wheelie. They are very disadvantaged compared to karts. They should be faster. And no delay on the inward drift.

That's a good one I wanted to point out but forgot. I found the items in MK8 to be very boring and stale. They need to bring in some craaaaaazy stuff I think. Wheelies on bikes though were very broken on the Wii. People who used bikes had an unfair advantage to karts as they would constantly pop wheelies to get speed boosts.

If Mario Kart Switch is just a port of MK8, it will be a major fail. Also, they should change the name of the console. Nintendo Switch is even worse than Nintendo Wii. It just makes me think of people beating their children. Also, people will think it's just a tablet, and not a game console.

I'm not hating on them in MK8, heck I use the wiimote+nunchuck for it. I just don't think wiimotes will be compatible for Switch, so they probably wouldn't for this port. I get that they're popular and they're great for different types of games, it's just an opinion of mine.
