The real reason everyone thought the Koopalings were Bowser's children is the fact that it was explicitly stated in the instruction booklet for Super Mario Bros. 3. It wasn't until their return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii that their relation to the Koopa King was retconned to what it is now.

The Toad Suit is actually an alternate sprite for the Hammer suit. It appears in that form only through the giant blocks that contain the power ups.

I hate that I'm that guy, but the unused "Toad Suit" from Mario 3 isn't a Toad Suit. That's the Hammer Suit without its proper palette. There's a ? Block in 7-8 that has the icon come out of it, and gives Mario the Hammer Suit.

Maybe Miyamoto never intended for the Koopalings to be Bowser's children. But in my childhood, I read everywhere in the official material (instruction manuals, guidebooks) that he is their father. That's why I still like to imagine that Junior is their eighth sibling. As long as there is no Mario game made that focusses on the story of the Koopalings' background, I see no reason to change that view.

The "Toad Suit" is actually used in-game. While the sprite for the Hammer Suit appears whenever you get one in a Toad House or use it on the map, the sprite is replaced with this "Toad Suit" whenever it emerged from a Giant ?-Block located in 6-10 and 7-8. This only happens in the NES version.

You're wrong about the toad suit. It's actually supposed to be a hammer suit, also, the fan recreation of the Frog, Tanooki and "Toad" suits are wrong because there is one pixel in-between each eye instead of two. If there were two pixels, you would have been able to tell that it's a hammer suit. ; )

I refuse to believe that the koopalings aren't Bowsers kids. The manual of SMB3 says that they are, in both versions. I think they just forgot they existed when they created Jr for SM Sunshine and really couldn't find a good excuse to cover their asses, so the kids got demoted to underling status. I also think Miyamoto wants to shush the fans that believe Bowser either screws his minions--because how else would you explain why the Koopalings look half like enemies you find throughout the series--and/or that he breeds a-sexually, (hello Bowser Jr.)

I Love this. Dr. Mario was my grandfathers favorite, (and only lol) game. We would jam out on Zelda, SMB, Contra and he would just sit there and watch and laugh. Then when we were gone he would just keep playing. I like to think Dr. Mario gave him a couple more years, kept him sharp. Thanks for the video guys! Good memories.

I don't think the Red Star was planned to return for a couple reasons. 1. The Red Star was most likely a power-up meant for easier Comet Observatory travel, and since Starship Mario is small, it wouldn't make sense. 2. The music for the Red Star does not exist in Galaxy 2's files, while the Ice Flower's music does exist and was even updated. So the Red Star is almost certainly a leftover.

I think Chicken Mario wasn’t converted into Penguin Mario (the other side of the image CLEARLY has concept art for it). I think it would be a version of it that would throw fireballs instead of ice balls, and would run slightly faster instead of swim better.
