Ok, let me explain again the stories of the two characters, because they are different. The first one is called Jaina, a very powerful mage that in her youth was the lover of Arthas, the first Lich King, before he was transformed. She had a tragic life starting with his downfall, her journey led her to an ancient continent, called Kalimdor, where she met Thrall, a noble orc, that was just leading his people and tried to survive after they won their freedom. Her father, the grand admiral of her people followed her there and when they met, he couldnt understand her reasons in helping those orc, since he thought of them of being only savage beasts, not creatures with honor or reason. After failing to make her father listen, she stood aside when he and his army tried to imprison the orcs again, fact that led to his death. The song (the shanty) in the first video is her people's song about her, warning about the betrayal of the daughter of the sea, as they used to call her. The second video is about Sylvanas, the current antagonist, trying to show us the reasons she became like this. If you read my comment in the Wrath of the Lich King video, I said there that Arthas, after going down the dark path, he went and invaded the High Elves. She was a ranger general there, entrusted with the defense of their lands and really gave Arthas a good run, but in the end she was killed by him using Frostmourne, the cursed blade. But he didnt want to give her a peaceful death, so in revenge for all the trouble she caused, he raised her as a Banshee, under his control. When he eventually left for the Frozen Throne, she broke free and swore vengeance against him. After Arthas' defeat, she didnt really find a meaning to live, so she threw herself from the top of Icecrown and died. But in death, she saw eternal darkness and got scared of that faith. Some Val'Kyr found her spirit there and bound themselves to her and brought her back to life, and ever since, she is trying to avoid that death again and find a solution for it. Also, while in that eternal dark place, she met an entity called The Jailor, that she made a pact with, to send it as many souls as she could, while he was giving her power. Thats why she started the war, killed innocents, made the Horde and Alliance kill eachother, all to send the dead souls to that Jailor so she could get more power, culminating in the end with her trip to Icecrown, where she fought and defeated the 2nd Lich King, Bolvar, and destroying the Crown of Dominance, breaking the veil between our world and the Shadowlands, where the Jailor resides. Hope this helps you understand these characters and their motivations a bit.

@@laertesindeed Chapter 7: Arthas: Rise of the Lich King (canon by the way) "They joined the throngs dancing by the fire that night, causing the guards no end of consternation as they went right down among the populace and shook hands and exchanged greetings. And then they gave the dutiful guards the slip, losing themselves in the crowd and stealing away unnoticed. Arthas led her through the back corridors to the private living quarters of the palace. Once they were almost caught by some servants taking a shortcut to the kitchens, and had to flatten themselves against the wall and stay perfectly still for several long moments. Then they were in Arthas's rooms. He closed the door, leaned back up against it, and swept her into his arms, kissing her deeply. But it was she, shy, studious Jaina, who broke the kiss and moved toward the bed, leading him by the hand, the orange light from the still-blazing wicker man outside dancing on their skin. He followed, almost as in a daze, a dream, as they stood beside the bed, their hands clasped so tightly Arthas feared her fingers would snap in his grip. "Jaina," he whispered. "Arthas," she said, the word a whimper, and kissed him again, her hands reaching up to clasp his face between her hands. He was dizzy with wanting her, and felt suddenly bereft as she drew back. Her breath was soft and warm on his face as she whispered, "I...are we ready for this?" He started to answer flippantly, but he knew what she was really asking. He could not imagine being more ready to bring this girl the rest of the way into his heart. He had turned down the lovely Taretha, and she had not been the first he had said no to. Jaina, he knew, was even less experienced than he in such matters. "I am if you are," he whispered hoarsely, and as he bent to kiss her again, he saw the familiar furrow of worry cross her brow. I will kiss it away, he vowed, bringing her onto the bed with him. I will make everything you could ever worry about go away forever. Later, when the wicker man had finally burned out and the only light on Jaina's sleeping form was the cool blue-white of moonlight, Arthas still lay awake, running his fingers along the curves of her body and alternately wondering where this would all lead and feeling content to simply be in the moment. He had not tossed in a branch to the wicker man fire, because he had nothing he wished to be rid of. Nor did he now, he thought, bending forward to kiss her. Jaina awakened with a soft sigh, reaching for him. "No one can seem to deny you anything," she murmured, repeating the words she had said to him the day of their first kiss, "least of all me." He clutched her to him then, a sudden cold shivering over him, though he had no idea why. "Don't deny me, Jaina. Don't ever deny me. Please." She looked up at him, eyes glittering in the cool moonlight. "I never would, Arthas. Never." (yeah...just friends..no relationship here folks )

Later the Horde under another bad guy Warchief (happens to them a lot it seems) destroyed her Home of Theramore...Killing more of her friends and countrymen. She has a pretty big mean-on for the Horde because of this even though her and Thrall (another Orc) had a close friendship. She is a powerful ally of the Alliance and Once the Paramore of Arthas, who became the Lich King. Her people the Kul Tirans are some of the greatest sailors and shipwrights. She raises her fathers Flagship to aid the alliance in the fights against the Horde. Sylvanas Windrunner (aka the Evil Girl) was once a High Elf Ranger whom died at the Hands of the Lich King (Arthas), was brought back as a Banshee, and later Broke Free from him control and became the leader of other undead whom were free willed with the ultimate Goal of killing the Lich King (Arthas). Once that was done she threw herself from Ice Crown (The Frozen Throne) Where the Lich King's seat of power is and died a 2nd time...only to find herself in the Maw (aka Hell), she was saved by the Val'kyr. And set upon a path to survive for if she died again she would return to the anguish and torment of the Maw. However along the way she became an agent or partner of The Jailer the being who runs the Maw. The cycle of regular death was broken and now all souls go to the Maw for the Jailer. To make a really long story short(er): Jaina is my favorite (female) character in WoW so this summary might be a bit biased. To summarize her story she is the princess of a nation called Kul Tiras. She has always been a pacifist even to the point of going against her father, Admiral Proudmoore, when he wanted to kill members of the Horde, a faction opposing the humans. This led to his death since Jaina did not stand by his side as the Horde was forced to kill Daelin (the Admiral), causing the kingdom she's from to make this song about her, portraying her as a traitor and as sort of a boogeyman of Kul Tiras, her own home. She later formed her own nation to lead and rule from, called Theramore, and it was bombed to oblivion by a leader of the aforementioned Horde. This caused the pacifistic Jaina's blonde hair to turn white and caused her to snap, becoming angry, vengeful and bitter. A very dangerous combination as Jaina is very powerful. In this song she reflects on her mistakes, humming the sea chanty her own people have made about her. Throughout the expansion she returns to her childhood home (Kul Tiras) and faces the judgement of her people, while also learning to forgive herself, her father, her enemies and everyone else, turning her from her warmongering path towards one that once again prefers peace, even though she is now willing to fight if need be. To me, it's a beautiful story arch about a pacifist who gets pushed over the brink, becomes very close to becoming what her foes are and maybe even worse, but eventually returns to her roots, having grown as a person. She is (in my biased opinion :P) one of the most well-written characters in the Warcraft Universe.

in the second video the significance of the tree is that it was gigantic, and sacred to the elves, which had a huge city at the top, and thousands were massacred in the fire, mostly women and children. The first video was about Jaina, who is a powerful mage, and she has issues around the death of her father, for which she was held responsible. @lordmortarius5384 жыл бұрын
The main reason why Jaina is so chilling in this short is because of two things: Garrosh's bombing of Theramore, and the perceived betrayal of the Horde on the Broken Shore that led to Varian Wrynn's death. Everything good in her life has been taken away by the Horde, first her father when he refused to listen to her and attacked the Orcs when they first arrived in Kalimdor, then when Garrosh used the magical equivalent of a nuclear bomb to level the city she had built without provocation, and then when Vol'jin was wounded in the attack on the Legion front, Sylvanas pulled the Horde back, leaving Varian and the Alliance forces outnumbered, forcing him to sacrifice himself for his men to escape. She's had enough of trying to live peacefully with those who bring only war and death (no matter that those few who did those things were largely acting in their own interests and not necessarily on behalf of the Horde), and with the burning of Teldrassil and the genocide of the Night Elves in their home city, she's finally through. That's why she raised the Lord Admiral's flagship from the depths where it had been sunk, and flew it to Lordaeron, using her unmatched skills as the Archmage of the Kirin Tor to punish the Horde for their transgressions.

Arthas, wielding Frostmourne (the runeblade he wields which was shattered in his death video can capture the souls of those it kills to fuel his power, thats why his father's soul shows up after it's shattered) laid siege to the capital of the High Elves (a sub-species of the Kaldorei which destroyed themselves and left the High Elves, Naga, and Night Elves, like the ranger she was speaking to, behind as sub-species) in an attempt to raise a powerful necromancer named Kel'Thuzad as a Lich utilizing the power of the Sunwell, a nearly endless font of arcane energy the High Elves fed off of. Arthas wasn't yet the lich king but Frostmourne whispered in his mind the voice of the actual first lich king and drove him mad before eventually bringing him to Northrend (a continent at the North Pole) to dawn the Helm of Domination and fuse with the original lich king's soul. On his way to the Sunwell he met the resistance of Sylvanas Windrunner, the Ranger General and her elite rangers. Essentially he washed over them like a flood with hordes of undead and rose Sylvanas as a Banshee by capturing her soul within Frostmourne, then releasing it as his slave, then used her to help destroy the land she was sworn to protect and drive her people to near extinction. Sometime later Illidan, a Kaldorei who was born tens of thousands of years ago and was now suffused with demonic energy to become the first demon hunter and he just so happens to be one of them ost powerful beings on the planet if not the cosmos, was ordered by the Burning Legion (a demon army that burned the entirety of the universe aside from the world where all this takes place on) who he was at the time in allegiance to in order to gain demonic power to eventually turn on them, to destroy the frozen throne, as the lich king, who was a creation of theirs to weaken the world before their arrival had rebelled. As Illidan did damage to the throne, the lich king's powers waned and undead in the south, like Sylvanas gained free will. Sylvanas then takes a roller coaster of a journey including re-animating her own body to inhabit it and be way stronger etc. in the name of revenge, hatred, you name it. Until now where she's essentially committing genocide across the world to increase her own power before destroying the Helm of Domination to open a passageway to the afterlife, called the Shadowlands, to do whatever her ultimate goal is, we don't know yet.

The Tree she burned was teldrassil the world tree, its a lot further away than it looks, its gigantic, there is the night elf city of darnassus in its branches, so destroying it was also destroying the home of the elves themselves.
@Tijuanabill4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Teldrassil is "the tree of life". Warcraft borrows from all human legends, and incorporates them in to their world, usually in very slightly altered form. Thor, the god of lightning, is Thorim, the titan of storms. HP Lovecraft monsters like Cthulhu are instead C'Thun. Dwarfs were former golems given the "curse of flesh", like in Lord of the Rings.

Jaina proudmoore was seen as the betrayer by kul tiras ( her homeland) because she stood aside as her father battled the horde. Before the battle, jaina made a deal that she wont fight the horde as long as the horde does not kill her people. By doing so she left her father's side at the battle in Theramore Isle so her father forces vs the horde led by thrall and the boys
@RatelRegalement4 жыл бұрын
Pure coincidence, but you managed to talk over the two points in Jaina's song that explain part of her grief and guilt. Particularly the line "But when he faced, those savage foes... /His daughter, stood aside/" There's some complexity, but ultimately even though she had little choice due to the situation, she still blames herself - decades later -for her father's death. 'Could I have handled it differently' , etc.

Even worse for Sylvanas, revenge was denied to her. The first Lich King, Arthas, was killed by us (the players) before she arrived at Icecrown Citadel. All she saw was somebody else (Bolvar, the guy from the Shadowlands cinematic) took his place, sealed in a block of ice. That's why it felt so satisfying when she destroyed the Helm of Domination, the other item that held the power of the Lich King. A story arc of hers finally closed after almost 17 years.

The tree was a capital city of night elves, there is ingame quest during this campaign, that requires player to save as many as u can, hundreds in space of minutes.. The quest u fail and pass out to be teleported away last minute As to sylvanas, she was ranger general of the blood elves, and the major defender against the lich King and army of the scourge, despite all her efforts, she has been betrayed and lich King conquered the city. It wasn't the end for sylvanas tho, because of how hard she made it for Lich King, he stole her soul and transformed her into a banshee, when he weakened she managed to escape his grasp and regain free will, along with regaining body. Her major plan was to kill arthas the lich King, in which she helped greatly, also becoming the leader of the forsaken Side note, kingdom of lordareon prince, arthas menethil, later became the LK. Jaina was his partner at the time, abandoning him when she noticed him changing. Jainas father, wanted to eradicate orcs, but jaina stood at their side, and never helped her father which indirectly led to his death. Following warchief of the horde destroyed the city she ruled, hence many things combined she seeks vengeance. Battle for azeroth takes alliance players to kul tiras, Jainas homeland, where she has to face consequences of her treason. Damn, I could be typing forever, but, watch more of the ingame cinematics, ideally from the same expansions, the story will make little bit more sense, if I may suggest Start with legion ones, then head into battle for azeroth

To get the full back story you need to go back into Warcraft 3 Lore. Sylvanas, Lich King (Arthas), Illidan, Kel'Thuzad and Jaina all start there. The story basically starts there up until that point it was basically Orcs and Humans and to get that story the actual Warcraft movie should get you most of the way there.

So the TL;DR version of Jaina's story is that she to try to keep peace between the horde and the kul'tirans, she let the horde kill her father who had broken some seacefire if i remember that right or thereabouts, and this haunts here later on in life as the horde changes leadership and then bombed her city, killing everyone in it and destroying to beyond repair, but still never really being re-accepted by her own people the kul'tirans.

The first woman is Jaina Proudmoore. She murdered her own father in an attempt to prevent a war because he was hellbent on genocide and wouldn't listen to her (hence why she says, "are you listening now, father?"). Her attempt didn't work - the war happened anyway, and she was viewed as a monster by her people for killing their leader. She was cast out into exile, and she is singing the song the people of her old kingdom made about her. Sylvanas was murdered by the Lich King and turned into a banshee as punishment for giving him so much frustration in battle. The scene was you saw was just moments before Varok (the big green guy) says "There's no honor in this! They will come for us now! All of them!"

Jaina tried to stop her father from genociding the orcs who left the Eastern Kingdoms for Kalimdor to find peace. He pursued them and Jaina betrayed him to give peace a chance and to save the world. Sylvanas Windrunner (high elf) was a hero who became a twisted ass villain.

Sylvanas did not kill the lich king to get revenge. The lich king who turned her into a banshee died many years ago. The reason she did it was to make a tear between "our world" and the afterlife, which is what you see in the trailer you reacted to previously. She made some kinda deal with a powerfull person from that realm during the current expansion or the previous one to overload the amount of dead people to cause chaos. That is what we will be exploring in the upcoming expansion pack coming out late 2020 where we travel to the shadowlands the realm of th dead.

The world tree burning is Teldrassil and was the home city (Darnassus) of the Night Elvs killing thousands of women & children. That was also the reason Alliance attacked Lordaeron, the city you guys saw in the Battle for Azeroth Cinematic. Saurfang tried to explain to Sylvanas that the alliance would come for them if they did something that dark.. and he was right. It was also one of the reasons he didnt want to follow her anymore, there wasnt any honor in killing innocent people like that. But as we see in the introduction of Shadowlands... she kinda just want people dead and doesnt care who dies Fun fact: Blizzard added a quest right after this Sylvanas warbringer where you try to save 1000 of people inside the city, just to realize that the point of the quest is to understand that you can't save them all. Kinda dark, but a good way to show how big impact this would have on the alliance. Warbringer Azshara is one of the absolut best warbringers (tied with Gul'dans I think) but I will warn you guys that it will be a bit confusing. It's a story told thousands of years ago and introducing stuff like old gods and the black empire, can be hard to get most of it... but it still amazing work and art done by Blizzard so.. watch it!

So the cliff notes for their backstories. During the time of the Third War Jaina led members of the Alliance to a new continent for safety where they ran into the remnants of the Horde as well. When the war concluded they actually formed a peace; the first and only time there was actual peace between the two factions. Jaina's father eventually came looking for her, bringing his navy, and upon finding the Horde attacked them. Jaina tried to get him to stop but he refused to listen and when it all came to a head Jaina ultimately decided to stand aside and allow the Horde to kill her father in order to maintain peace. Fast forward, leaders change, chaos happens, and a new leader in the Horde attacks Jaina and her group as tensions mount and ultimately destroys her city, killing many. From that point up until just recently Jaina had been struggling with a lot of hatred, rage, and guilt over her past decisions, even really becoming a villain for a brief time. Sylvanas was Ranger-General of her homeland and the high elves. When the undead attacked she fought as best she could but was ultimately killed and had her soul ripped from her body and used to attack her own people, becoming who we now know as the Banshee Queen. Upon regaining her freedom she became the leader of a faction of free-willed Undead called the Forsaken and upon being rejected by the Alliance found the Horde willing to aid her and her people. What she endured greatly darkened her outlook on life, she became very callous yet despite that she did attempt to gain trust from those around her but time and again events conspired against her and led people to continue to be wary of her. Even her attempts to reconcile with family that still lived resulted in them rejecting her. All of this compounded into the Sylvanas we have now, who views the living with contempt and as she gained power is now bent on wiping out life and seemingly unifying everyone in undeath.

So the two separate scenes were two people. The daughter of the sea is Jaina proudmore which yes her father was killed by orcs bc he was an ass and she(Jaina) let it happen. The second one was Sylvanas that’s the lady that you’ve been seeing. She was defending her homeland and then killed by the Lich king and turned into a banshee (hence the screaming) and then she broke free from his grasp found her body and joined the horde with the other undead that broke free of his will (now called forsaken) so she wanted revenge on the lich king and when he was killed (the og one) she killed herself bc she was done with her mission. She saw only darkness and was tormented in death and she made a deal with valkyr who brought her back and keep her alive (anytime she dies one of the valkyr take her place) now her sole goal in a lot of peoples eyes is to stay away from that darkness and she’s pretty much hell bent to stay alive. That is seen as her motivation and that’s why this next expansion we are going into the afterlife (which she opened up for us when she broke the helmet) bc she’s made some deals with some people in there and we don’t know where the story is taking her. Again cool video guys!!!

Jaina was trying to make peace with the Horde (mostly the orcs) back then. Her father, the Admiral of Kul Tiras, a powerful seafaring nation, was pretty old fashioned, and tbh racist. He didn't want to listen to his daughter. Didn't believe her that the Orcs weren't corrupted by demonic blood anymore. Therefore, to protect his daughter in his mind, he wanted to kill them all. Jaina, for the greater good, stood aside. Which ended up with her father dying. To Kul Tiras, she is a traitor. That's why they say, beware of the daughter of the sea. It's a Kul Tiran folk song, practically created against her by her own people. On a side note, she stood aside because she believed she couldn't repel the Burning Legion from invading their world. The Burning Legion is an intergalactic, and interdimensional demonic army, led by a fallen Titan. A god, so to speak. Now, Jaina, after many losses and continued war between the Horde and the Alliance, grew bitter and cold. Slowly, but surely, growing to hate the Horde. And regrets a lot. In this clip, she attempts to return to Kul Tiras, and reconnect with her people. Sylvanas...you better watch a Nobbel video about her story in private. It's probably an hour long. Worth it though, she was a beloved character for nearly twenty years. Only recently, it appears, she has chosen a dark path. What you see in the video is Sylvanas burning Teldrassil, a world tree. About 95% of the night elven population lived on that tree. Not anymore as you can see. The flashback, was Arthas, the Lich King, invading Quel'Thalas, the high elve's homeland. He did so in order to abuse their Sunwell's power to resurrect one of his minions. Kel'Thuzad. While marching toward the Sunwell he slaughtered countless, destroyed much of their land, and tainted is with the undead. At that time he killed the elven's Ranger General, Sylvanas Windrunner, and raised her to a banshee. Eventually, she shook herself free from the Lich King's control over her, and formed her own faction of the undead, called the Forsaken. Which are part of the Horde. All I'm saying next is mostly theory, so take it with a grain of salt. Azeroth, the world they live in, is basically the egg of a slumbering Titan called Azeroth (Titan of Spirit or Creation, not clear to this point). Sylvanas now serves the Jailor. A being that rivals and slowly overpowers the Arbitor. The ruler of the afterlife. The Shadowlands. That's where we are heading next. Now, good and evil is...ha ha...complicated in the WoW Universe. It almost doesn't exist. There is almost always a but. Anyway, Eonar, the Titan of Life is part of the Titan Pantheon has, much like Sylvanas, done some shifty stuff with the scales concerning life and death in the universe. Argus, the Titan of Death, doesn't belong to the Pantheon, but most likely predates them. But the Pantheon or Eonar did something to him. He is basically dead or shattered. Tormented, so much, f...just search for the Wowhead video Argus Voice Line, you can feel the pain and rage in his voice. Especially the last one. Anyhow, the Jailor, maybe is a shattered part of him. Maybe! Argus appears to let's say, not be against Azeroth. None are somehow. Therefore, if the Jailor is a part of Argus, and Sylvanas serves him, then she might still be a protector of Azeroth. And a hero of sorts. Albeit not really one that fits the mortal standard of good.

Even if you don't play the game, the story is amazing all by itself, I would recommend some of Nobbels lore videos, not so much for a reaction video but just to enjoy a good story, I've played Warcraft since I was 5 years old, now I am 29 and this is by far the best story in a game that I've ever seen. I have shed more tears for the characters in this universe than I have ever for anyone or anything in real life. You could probably also find a playlist that goes through everything chronologically so you're not jumping back and forth in the story, which can make it confusing because all the characters as they are now have deep and complex stories that can be hard to follow without the previous stuff. None the less, good job and I hope you will immerse yourself in the amazing story of warcraft! :)

Jaina, the one in the 1st video, was torn by guilt for not siding with her father when he fought the horde, she fought alongside the horde some time earlier to save world but her father had decades of resentment against the horde, so she choose to respect her pact with the horde. I suggest you have a run at warcraft 3+expansion or the reforged version, if you have the time and patience is one great game and you have both these ladies "origin" stories.
@jimboa204 жыл бұрын
Ok, so, the first video is about a character you haven't been introduced to in the other videos you've seen. This is Jaina, a character that goes back to Warcraft 3. She moved a large number of humans to Kalimdor, fleeing the undead scourge, and founded the city of Theramore. Now, the orcs had also settled nearby, but Thrall, the leader of the Horde (at that time) and Jaina had brokered peace, and all was well for a while. Then her father arrived, chasing after the Horde. He immediately started a campaign against the Horde, breaking the peace. Jaina allowed the Horde to retaliate against her father, and he was ultimately killed. But the peace was kept. The Kul Tirans (the nation Jaina and her father are from) heard a very biased version of events and made the song about it, basically shit-talking Jaina.

Wesley Robinson gives an explanation of Sylvanas. Now I've never played World of Warcraft, but I played Warcraft, Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3. As Wesley said, in Warcraft 3 Sylvanas was a ranger, a High Elf, who was trying to stop Arthas from invading her home. He killed her and brought her back as banshee, as Wesley said, but she hated this existence that he had forced on her. She did break away from him, but last I knew she was seeking a homeland for undead who were free of their bonds. I don't know how or why she moved away from this goal. I really liked Sylvanas in Warcraft 3 and I don't like what they did to her in World of Warcraft. Just my 2 cents worth.
@Tazytots4 жыл бұрын
Essentially what happened with Jaina is that she left her homeland while her father went to war with the Orcs. He died at war and her family blames her for not being by his side because they think they could have won with her help. She's driven by regret, and desire for revenge. To prove herself. Sylvanas pretty much ever since she was turned into a Banshee by the Lich King stopped caring about life in general. Slowly over the years turning into an undead tyrant.
