I always take the gasket right off the filter and oil it up,that way for sure it spins freely without bunching up.Good to see you're enjoying the bike.

What I do I just put some oil on the gasket before screw it back. But this makes sense as both sides are oiled.

Why you dont take the filter 1st ?

To let as much oil from the filter to drain so I don't make a lot of mess.
