I had a feeling about that song, I'm Your Captain/Closer to My Home! I used to fall asleep to that song at night among others. It was by far, my favorite! I used to cry whenever I would hear it because there seemed such a longing to it! And it was SOOOO beautiful! I could just feel the longing! Wow! This is SO COOL! This just MAKES MY NIGHT!!!! God bless you real good, Mark!

That's so cool. I never even saw him onstage. I just had a crush on his voice, and what I saw of him on the album I had of them, E Pluribus Funk. Yes, now that you mention it, I remember, he did have pure eyes. They struck me as innocent, almost pleading. I wish I could know what it meant whenever I see eyes like that! How exciting to see him come back to Christ! And his ministry to bars is so very needed! That's the compassionate heart of Jesus.

Mark, when I was 14 years old you were a big inspiration to me. GFR was my favorite band and I found a way to see yawl every time you came to NC. I have lived 56 years old and have found comfort in knowledge. I have learned that you have to realize that will live in 2 existences. Spiritual and worldly. You have to be wise enough to know how to navigate in those two completely different existences. Some people do not know how to separate the two. This creates an unbalanced soul.

Now THAT'S some kind of wonderful !!! 1967 I heard "Sin's A Good Man's Brother" & "Paranoid"... think I remember meeting you in Long Beach, Ca at radio KNAC-FM's studio....cool white cowboy boots with american eagles on the tops, I was 14... your music was the #1 favorite of that young crazy sex & drugs period in my life...I got born again cruising the boulevard in Van Nuys,Ca...Wednesday Cruise Night, lookin' for love - met my wife! - she introduced me to Jesus! got baptised at Pastor Jack Hayford's "Church On The Way" in 1983,.. Relapsed into the old ways, but now, by his grace' I am pulled from the fire and renewed in spirit, seeking to be obedient to Him in ALL things.. no more foolin' around... I Thank God for you... and now I listen to you and rejoice!.. hearing you singing new christian lyrics to the classic old tunes...and knowing the Lord Loves You and Your Music too!!! ...My Brother - Mark Farner...Incredible! How Cool Is That!.. how wonderful Jesus is to hear the broken heart that dares to cry out to Him to save his life... the bruised reed he will not break, the flickering candle's flame he will not blow out... because it is not the beginning of a thing that matters, but the end of a thing that counts... pray for me Mark...I came out of a time of sin, the Lord gave me a second chance... glad I found you again, saved by grace and lettin his love shine thruogh your bold testimony Love You Brother... keep singing the GOOD Stuff!!!

If you become unbalanced and rely on one existence more than the other, then you are out of harmony with yourself. Jesus tried to show everyone this when he ate with the sinners. Some people navigate into the spiritual so much that they no longer have much regard for the physical world. We can all strive for the high prize, but we have to know how to tie our own shoes as well. I hope this makes sense to you. It was heart felt.

Here's an item of interest, somehow, a Grand Funk Phoenix record got in our record collection, around the time I was 17, and the 2nd song on Side 2 titled "So You Won't Have to Die," had the name of Jesus in it a few times. Me and my family attended Sunday School and Church, so I already was familiarized with Jesus, but at that age, I was also a rock and roll music fan, and hearing Jesus name in a rock and roll song really intrigued me, that was the summer of '78.

The sad thing is that the so called christian community would not give his music a chance. His new stuff was great but because it was considered more of a hard rock or blues they wouldn't play it, or at least in Greenville SC they wouldn't. Wish you the best brother and am praying for your son who was just paralyzed. God bless.

Probably, Mark seems like he is not as active in spreading the Gospel because he is devoting most of his time and efforts to helping his son, Jesse, who was in a tragic accident and has quadriplegia. Mark was interviewed recently by Governor Mike Huckabee and, apparently, is also busy fundraising for a charity devoted to those who are dealing with brain/spinal cord injuries like his son Jesse. His faith is still alive, and in a way that draws rockers like Roger Daltry to help a worth cause.

I love the entire GFR band, they aren't the same without either one of them. Mark without a doubt as he wrote most of the songs and sang most of the hits. I love them all, but hate what they did to Mark with their shady deal after their one reunion. He can't even use the name anymore to market his appearances. He could probably sue them and eventually win that right back, as it is after all all three of them that are Grand Funk. But a credit to Marks character and faith as the Bible talks about trying to avoid lawsuits, especially against another brother, generally meaning a brother in Christ, he still wont do it as he considers them his brothers period. He's talked about how he hates what they did, but will always love them as brothers regardless of their manipulating him to sign something that was not in his best interest to say the least. He said he didn't bother to read it through, or bring it to an attorney, cause he trusted them and thought they were his freinds. It hurt him more that they did that than it did the money he will be denyed. But imo, Mark comes out looking like the way bigger man sticking to his principles and choosing not to fight in court guys that were at least one time his closets freinds and brothers in spirit and together, conquered the world with their amazing chemestry as a band. Sad to have it end up this way. Bur Mark still sounds as great as ever and seems genuinely content. No doubt his faith makes it possible to move on and forgive. Not ok what they did, but forgive them. He can look in the mirror and be ok about it and no doubt the Lord will bless him and has blessed him for choosing humility when it must not have been easy. Mark, you've been an awesome example of a regular dude trusting God and trying to do the right think whithout any hint of pretentiousness.

But how can we pray for them if we never know these things? This is the kind of celebrity news I care about. Sure looks like God is in the process of overcoming what the enemy meant for evil with good, tho. Keep the faith, Mark!

Good question! I've never even uploaded a video. I wouldn't have a clue how to do it! But I do know that if you approach the KZbin organizers, they might be able to help you. Good luck, though. They seemed to be okay with the life story of Keith Green 4 years ago! Maybe they're still okay. And this was uploaded in 2010! That's a real good sign! I'll sign a petition if that's how they operate. My prayers are with ya if u want 2 do it.

He says Closer to My Home was spiritual, and you could take it that way. It's a nice song. I always liked it. But then four years later he was doing American Band, we'll help you party down, with the chiquitas from Omaha... You've got to keep your feet on the ground, people, not jump around in the world. Then, after you come out as a Christian, you can slither back to your dog vomit?

I appreciate the man’s bold witness. However, I have listened to some rather unclean language from him on interviews. We as followers of Christ are His ambassadors. We represent our Lord. Why does he not follow scripture, and chooses to let fly such unholy language? None of us are modeling Jesus perfectly, and we all have blind spots, but his lack of basic Christian understanding is problematic for me. It is a red flag, and there are likely other less obvious problems.
